Norm did a bit on the Dennis Miller radio show where he called in talking about how he was developing a ventriloquist act, but one of his dummies was a raging holocaust denier.. so he never liked to use him because it always wanted to talk about it. Adam Eget was the top manager at one of/the biggest comedy clubs in Los Angeles during his reign as Norm's sidekick, so he wasn't just a fellow comedian but actually a powerful player in the LA comedy scene, most of the guests on the show knew who he was and understood he was in on the jokes.

Adam Eget was Norm's sidekick, like Conan has Andy Richter and Johnny Carson had Ed McMahon. But Norm's idea was to stretch the form to the extreme and be super abusive to his sidekick. In real life they were good friends, and I think Adam idolized Norm. BTW, the Norm MacDonald Live episode interviewing Stephen Merchant was one of the best. Norm was in top form. Too long form for a reaction, but maybe there's a compilation of highlights.

Adam had a good carrier at the time and an even better one now. People LOVE that he worked with Norm in this way in the industry. He manages a lot of talent in California and is the booker at the Tempe Improv in Tempe.

It took me a year of rewatching these Podcast bits before it clicked that Adam Egert was in on it the bit and playing his part. Once that epiphany hits and you rewatch again going in knowing that, you then come out of these mini-masterpieces realizing Adam Egert is a freakin genius too. Because before you are let in on the joke, he really does pull off coming off as the world's biggest idiot. Fooling everybody in the business that should know better. Only one guest was on to them from the start and flip the script on them brilliantly, playing the long game, roasting both Norm and Adam. That was Norm's hero, Mr. David Letterman. "I'm not coming back, Norm."
