Gollum just causes mischeif. whether it be for Frodo or for the bank accounts of whoever put stocks in this game. no one is happy :c
Also fun fact, this video had a 20 second intro hinging on the game being made by warner brothers. only to find out this is the ONLY LOTR game to not be involved with WB in a decade. I animated 20 seconds of misinformation and my brain was fried.

Daedalic has always been the absolutly-best studio in regards to graphic adventure, and the only one who actually managed to recapture the feeling of old LucasArts games - even more than "new LucasArts" itself. Unfortunately, while their Good Adventure Games were really beloved, they sold badly (most fans only watched letsplays instead of buying the games) That's why their current CEO decided to stop making Point-and-Click-Adventures and instead make "AAA Games for a bigger market". Clearly that worked out, lol. Also, Poki, the main guy behind the good games (like deponia and edna), left the company a few years ago. The company was already at the bottom for a long time, but noone cared about the trash they pumped out because it was irrelevant. Gollum though, a game about a big IP, that also was just SO ridiculously bad that people just HAD to talk about it...

You're going to at least have heard about Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth, perhaps the most famous among the games they've made. They've also published a plethora of other even more famous games (such as barotrauma), and many games that are good in general regardless of notoriety, but I honestly don't knw hoe much they were involved in their development so I don't feel they're too important to be mentioned.

totally true, haven't played the game but watched reviews and so many of the choices don't make sense. I really think one aspect that could have made a Gollum game fun is dialogue options and more character and choice based because Gollum really was all about the moral conflict and addiction. Because he was such a tragic character I think i'd really have liked a game where you could maybe have alternate endings like if it was possible to get an ending where he overcomes his demons by the end of the LOTR series that'd be really wholesome. Or maybe implement some aspects of the addiction of the ring like you feel you need to depend on the ring too much to beat the game but the more you use it the more well you know.

Like it's possible to do a gremlin Stealth game well (see Styx), and Gollum has potential for a backstory. But for some stupid reason they tried to make the game some noble quest with generic epic music that doesn't fit at all. They even reffered to Gollum as a "unique kind of hero", they completely missed the point of Gollum as a character, he's a pathetic and pitiful shcizophrenic little gremlin who lives a very horrible life and does bad things, he's not some fantastic hero embarking on a quest, he's a mentally ill crackhead who lives in constant pain.

In fairness, the actual premise of the game I thought was interesting back when I saw the first preview, it was originally aupposed to take place at that point in the story where gandalf is off hunting down gollum, so the idea originally was you had to sneak past large and major factions and powerful enemies, gandalf, the mirkwood elves, the orcs, while inexplicably being atracted to Mordor, having the two sides, Gollum and Smeagol, argue and decide who wins, the starting concept was amazing, so amazing I am shocked they even managed to mess it up

Honestly, I see the potential of a stealth platformer starring Gollum as the main character. The first act centers around How Smeagol became Gollum. The opening starts with a basic tutorial starring the two friends where they eventually go fishing. The whole murder happens and Smeagol gets kicked out of the village. We then play as him to see how he ended up in that cave. Once act 2 starts, we jumpcut to 50 years later when Bilbo stole the ring from Gollum. After that, the whole objective is to track down Bilbo and take back the ring, only for Gollum to end up tortured by Sauron's minions in Mordor, starting off the events of the first movie.

I hear a lot of people say "WHO asked for this?" But honestly a game starring Gollum sounds cool on paper - making a game around his two personalities coming at odds with each other, depicting his struggle for surviving a world that's so harsh to him. In fact, when I initially heard about the game and what it sold itself as, my first thought was that it was going to be similar to the Styx games - stealth platforming set in the world of Lord of the Rings, sneaking around various locations in Middle Earth and learning more about the world, and maybe getting into danger against different characters and races to protect the ring. There's potential there, and to the game's credit, it did have some neat ideas that just had very bad execution. Such a disappointment that they dropped the ball so hard.

Don't know how long they can live, but I've had some thoughts for a LoTR spin-off starring "the last Uruk-hai" in way late Middle-Earth. A time when what little magic remains is hoarded by tyrannical wizard-wannabes. The last Uruk-hai, forever compelled to fight, soon becomes these wizard-kings' only challenger.

I honestly don't get why a lot of people think the concept is such a bad idea that no one wanted. Sure, I know that the idea of a "Gollum game" sounds kinda weird but he IS an iconic and important character in Tolkien's Legendarium and a survival game based around how he was to make his way through Mordor and other scary places in Middle-earth honestly HAS potential for an interesting game, especially considering how you can also expand on the lore and worldbuilding from his point of view and also with the split-personality thing. Also, it's funny how he mentions an Aragorn game beacuse there IS one, Aragorn's Quest from 2010 and... it wasn't very good.
