Disney’s stagnation in art design and “realism” with CGI has been a core factor into why they’re falling behind with other animated films winning more awards and making more money. Now they’ve gone all in on sequels and will continue to do so until that well dries up too.

It's sad that some people seem to think this is a better alternative to... actual, cartoon animation. Why do we need Timone and Pumba (or any of the others) to look like real animals? Who wants to see a "real", not real animated film? These Disney remakes are something that sound good to talk about as fans when you're a kid, and mistakes in actuality.
@SquorzelКүн бұрын
I also hate it when some people make it seem like bad live action movies mean it’s a war between live action in general and animation (not you of course). Both are good on their own ways (except live action remakes, they almost always suck, except the Cinderella LAR apparently. Or it was Alice in wonderland, I don’t remember.

@Squorzel I have some nostalgia for Alice but I don't think either film is well-regarded. I do remember Cinderella was good but that's because it was less a 1-for-1 live action cosplay movie that paled in comparison, and its own thing entirely. An actual decent Cinderella adaptation. But I think both of those hardly count since they're before Disney started pumping out the beat-for-beat live action remakes
@SquorzelКүн бұрын
@ oh, so I guess after those two, they basically got worse, to the point of being (usually) not the worst thing ever, but just.. you can watch the original, you know? Not much reason to watch an inferior version of a movie that doesn’t really add much. So basically what you said.
@robbieboydudeguyКүн бұрын
@@Squorzel The problem I have with seeing people praise 3D or cgi animation over 2D is that the original animators for Disney were unionized. They wanted decent pay for the things they were creating and Disney switched to 3D in a way that everyone got on board with, neglecting the fact that 2D animation is beautiful and deserves the benefits Disney hesitated to give them. It shouldn’t be a war against the mediums, it should be a disagreement with corporate money ruining art and story telling

Them being realistic also held them back in another aspect- character recognizability. Maybe it’s better in the movie (which I will never pay to see), but I was REALLY looking in the trailers and simply could not tell the difference between Mufasa and Scar. They look identical! (The first “live action” Lion King suffered from a similar problem with Simba and Scar, but at least there they were both adults with full manes, so if you squinted you could go by mane color)
@desdar100Күн бұрын
@thatonepossum5766 yeah, I also felt like there was a lot of tonal whiplash. It wants to be this Prince of Egypt style epic about two brothers that end up dissenting towards each other, meanwhile you have Timon and Pumbaa making a bunch of Joss Whedon styled jokes and references

I feel like animation is needed in situations like this. at least Cinderella and Ariel can show emotions through the people that play them, but a cgi lion is always going to give "uncanny valley" to a certain extent. and like you mentioned about not being able to differentiate the lions would be fixed by just animating it. the only positive thing for me that came from this movie was seeing the movie premier's fashion looks 😵💫

I respect that Disney wants to hire directors with more of a "Criterion-Collection" sensibility, but Disney fans don't generally...go for those kinds of films. Sometimes these sensibilities work fine together and other times it's like watching someone try to fit a square peg in a round hole. The problem is, directing opportunities for directors like Barry Jenkins are getting more and more rare these days and I don't blame them for trying to reach out to bigger audiences. Anyways, hope the paycheck from this gives him some financial ease to try and make the movies he really loves to make!

Let's get one thing straight here everyone. These movies OKAY ARE NOT CANON TO THE ORIGINAL ANIMATED LION KING UNIVERSE. As for bye bye yes it is a stupid song. It's not even anything compared to be prepared, nor is it like Aaron Burr wait for it. Also, in my opinion, Aslan from Narnina is so much more expressive than any of these lions, and that movie can be out almost twenty years ago. I feel that because Narnina acknowledged it was a fantasy well, Disney pushes this movie is "live action" when it just Hamlet but with lions. I think making Taka king but him losing his birth pride makes his whole anger at Mufasa unfounded because Mufasa laid the foundation for Malili, not Taka.
