The biggest issue with this film is our main character is an empty vessel.

I'm not the slightly interested about that show, and the again race swap of a character, being a black girl being a witch, isn't really interesting. I've seen Blade 2 recently, it's much better.

This makes me so excited to watch it now! I love the musical and the book and I was worried the film might not do it justice, especially since it was announced it would be split into two films

Yep can confirm its actually pretty good, and only a 1 year gap between part I and part II which means you'll actually still remember some of part I compared with Mission Impossible...

I loved the movie but I thought the editing was annoying. I wish they would let scenes play out more instead of cutting every three seconds

You’re the first reviewers to say that Cynthia Erivo was the standout. I saw it yesterday and I agree 100%. Couldn’t take my eyes off Erivo. Erivo made me feel EVERYTHING. She was sublime.

@myautobiographyafanfic1413 It's great that Oz fans can have a moment. I just wish Star Wars fans could get such a treat.
@myautobiographyafanfic141318 минут бұрын
@thehouseofoverthinking Hm, well Star Wars is natively film. I think you're able to have degrees of separation re: Oz. Books that became a movie, a book based on the movie, a musical based on the book. So on. Honestly, I think the only hope for Star Wars is a Flash Gordon-like serial playing between other films.
@thehouseofoverthinking4 минут бұрын
@myautobiographyafanfic1413 Yes, you're right. Oz has no sense of true canon, as even the original books are inconsistent within themselves. Of all fantasy worlds, it's probably the most open to evolution and unique takes. Star Wars is a different kettle of fish. I'm not a big SW fan so I don't know a huge amount, but I wish they'd stuck with the original expanded SW universe. The only sequel film I enjoyed was The Last Jedi, and that was solely because unlike the other two, it didn't automatically retread the originals.

I remember seeing this years ago in London and thinking that the big flying set piece and song (I think it's the end of the first half) was the end of the show. I was horrified that it was only an intermission because I was ready to leave.

Cynthia and Ariana were absolutely sublime casting choices as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. You need to have a strong onscreen chemistry to make their bond seem all the more convincing, and they both pulled it off with ablomb.

I usually love Nolan. I didn't like it. A lot of it has to do also with how mediocre the acting is and how badly the female characters are written
@4589dude10 сағат бұрын
I dunno how you go in with the fear of it ending up a cash grab and a rehash of the original, and then walk away from Gladiator II thinking it ISN'T any of those things. But alright.

There was one scene in the movie, after main guy found his dead wife's corpse, he just leaves her floating, and goes with roman soldiers without any resistance, and they pat him on the back like "come on, buddy, we enslaving you, there-there".
@fantasiazplatkami20 сағат бұрын
I agree with the guy. The story was terrible. Spoiler: How do we even know Macrinus was bad or good? He wanted go get rid of current authorities and rule Rome, but to do what with it??? And Lucius is going to do what? He is not competent in ruling. The death od the wife was at battle, it was not personal, taking it personally made Lucius look like a moron.

When white people white wash the role of middle eastern or even Asian roles in films everyone is up in arms when a black actor black washes the role of a middle eastern character nobody cares because white guilt is all about appeasing black people while ofc treating North African and middle eastern people in the same dehumanizing way they always have. Macrinus was Berber. It’s absurd to have a black African man play a senator in Rome it’s wildly historically inaccurate
@AMultipolarWorldIsEmergingКүн бұрын
In actual history gladiators rarely died. It wasn’t this thing where gladiators constantly died. Like slaves, gladiators were expensive. Most retired and died. So the films of Ridley Scott as usual just want to portray Rome as Barbarians so its spectacle. Moronic. Also Denzel Washington being black bothers me as someone from a North African background because macrinus was Berber not sub Saharan African. As usual black washing is done by white people to appease black people and their own guilt but takes away representation from middle eastern and North African people.
@eddiedevereoxford4995Күн бұрын
It was an insult to the first film and to all those who understand the depth of the first film. It was a boring rip-off of the first with awful DEI for 2024 - only unthoughtful people with no appreciation for story, historical Rome or film-making would enjoy Gladiator 2. Dr Patel leading a Roman army? FFS. Fk off. A Roman army allowing the new emperor - old man Denzel - fight and be killed by a gladiator? No way. Mescal, a gardener pleb at the start, was unkillable and had virtual superpowers by the end. BS.
