Good choice. Pretty much the same old box frame F-alpha platform. And the frame is not thinned out like Yota does (hello rust lol). Proven VQ V6 design has decades of proven reliability. Daimler benz 9 speed is overbuild for heavy body on frame applications. Also made in Canton Miss in the good old USA as well as the motor made in the states. Much higher build quality then the crap coming out of Yota's baja plant and the other POS plant they got down south.

I've never paid over $400 a month for a truck and never will. If you make less than $80,000 a year and pay more than $400 a month for a vehicle more than likely you will have a poor retirement and you're on the verge of losing your home and filing for bankruptcy. Most people that pay over $400 a month get their vehicles repossessed anyway.

On a more serious note: 1. internal bump stops with cheapo cast aluminum top hat (shocks are busting into the wheel wells lol) 2. No dedicated trans intercooler (rear differentials are overheating) 3. Box frame is thinned out too much in sections (hello rust and more tacos breaking in half lol) 4. Back seat is worst in class and completely unusable on TRD pro.

@HiPlains1

@@theinfinitymachine9610 Only way to fix some of these issues is to redesign the manufacturing defects. At a minimum use frame mounted bump stops and install a dedicated transmission inter cooler in front of the radiator. Even my 2019 Frontier Pro4X has that. Toyota will not go back to the naturally aspirated V6 or V8 engines. The new CEO announced he wants to only make hybrid engines and phase out ICE engines across the board. The New Toyota CEO and Board Member’s are the problem. I hope all there vehicles Rot on the Lot. American car buyers don’t like when companies force overpriced vehicles onto their loyal customers and do the opposite of what customers actually want to buy. Toyota expects American car and truck enthusiasts will just blindly buy it and shut up. Americans do NOT want all hybrid/turbo engines. We do not want to pay 50K for a midsized base model Mexico built truck or SUV. Toyota needs to feel the pressure of its customers not buying their vehicles. DO NOT BUY THE NEW TOYOTA TRUCKS OR SUV’S.

Nothing wrong with using induction but they need to overbuild things like in the past. Like using frame mounted bump stops. using a dedicated trans intercooler and beefing up the diffs. The reason the shocks are busting into the wheel wells and the diffs are overheating with trans failures is the entire mess is under built. Yota expects the owner to crawl malls and nothing else. They also have real issues with QC from their suppliers. Yota has completely lost their way. Like a restaurant that builds a good reputation over many years and lose all in a matter of weeks if a new owner fails to keep the same quality. Yota will soon see how easy it is to lose their reputation for quality. And its brutal gaining that trust back. Perception is a bitch.

I really can’t badmouth the four-cylinder turbo. GM designed the 2.7 turbo max based on using diesel specs to build a super durable motor. It’s been in the Sierra for six years and it’s been in the Colorado now for two years. There are no recalls other than an electronic issue. It’s a super reliable and durable turbo engine. The thing is Toyota isn’t building reliability anymore. And they’re charging too much based on their legendary Liability, which is gone now. That’s the problem.

The V6 > 4T, to be sure. I want an internal combustion engine, and at LEAST 6. Preferably V8. I understand the fuel economy of a turbo 4, but 22-24 still isn’t good. The price is high, but it isn’t the problem for me. The TRD Pro is the model I would want (and while most people may not, I would DEFINITELY take it off road). They should have an AWD setting. And, the back seat legroom is absurd. There is absolutely no way I could sit back there. The extra thick seat makes it impossible. No storage under the rear seat? Where the heck do I put my recovery gear? It’s a no. I’d pay a premium for the 2023 used before so would buy that new.

I will be buying a Tacoma soon but not the 2024. I do not want a turbocharged engine which results in more wear and tear on the engine. I will look at a low mileage 2020 or around that year.

I’ve been waiting years to buy a new Tacoma truck. I was planning on getting one end of this year or next. Waiting the extra year and they come out with a 4 cylinder that even Tacoma enthusiasts think is not worth the money. What a let down. I’ve spent the last month looking at Nissan, Chevy, and ford midsize. What the hell was Toyota thinking.

I am not complaining but just let you know the turbo need lots of care ! It could still last 200 k miles ! That’s why I bought the last year V6 Tacoma TRD off road, 4x4 ! 😊

The turbo engine is not a deal breaker for me because if there is a car manufacturer that can make a reliable turbo engine, it’s Toyota. The price is the biggest letdown and reason I didn’t buy one. Toyota and Toyota dealers are pricing/marking up midsize trucks to full size truck prices. At the 4th gen Tacoma TRD PRO’s price point just get the 3rd Gen Tundra TRD PRO. That’s what I did.

By downsizing their truck engines, the costs to build it are now far less than what it was, and yet they are selling it for a whole lot more. Customers have caught up with their greed and are now retaliating. Bring back common sense by bringing back the V6 for Tacomas and V8 for the Tundras.

I was an over twenty-year Toyota truck owner both Tacoma and Tundra and I needed the size when I was young to haul and tow heavy loads. My Wife was always afraid to drive the big trucks at least for a small woman it was big and when I was gone it was an issue. We are 75 years young and felt we needed something she could drive and we don't haul or tow heavy loads. We looked at the new Tacomas first then we looked and drove everything else in mid-size pickup and the Ridgeline she just loved since it drove like a car. We bought the 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition and so far love it. I was one of those guys that always put down the "toy trucks" but now I am a believer at the stage of my life. I always thought the tailgate opening was a gimmick but it is one of the best features and we use it more than the other drop down opening. Toyota has gotten arrogant and complacent with their customers and this is more proof if you ever needed any. IMHO

Those are the problem areas that are breaking right now out of the gate. Also the internal bump stops are seeing the shocks busting through the cheap ass cast aluminum top hats. This is comically funny how crappy these are now.

They should have made them all-electric, with 100 miles of electric range, stupid horsepower and torque numbers with the Torsen center diff, and a 3.5L connected to a generator range extender running any type of gas. This would have given them all the benefits of an electric vehicle with the range of a gas vehicle. Ram beat them to the punch. Additionally, LFP batteries would be ideal in that role and keep the price down. That setup would would last forever while making Uncle Sam happy in the process.

All good points minus the turbo 4cly bits. You guys are acting like NA V6 is a V8. I know Toyota has a lot of you about a decade behind the rest of the world for tech and performance, but time to move on. The only V6 that matters is one that comes with twin turbos. These new turbo 4s are built for boost and torque. They aren't NA 4-cylinders with turbo strapped on as an afterthought. The old V6's reliability wasn't because Toyota made it bulletproof, but because it was so underwhelming in performance, you could probably go 100k miles without oil change. If underwhelming performance is your jam, to each their own. Stay on top of oil changes, and you have the same reliable vehicle, just more capable and fun. But yes, Toyota is out of their mind with the prices as well as packages. They REALLY let you know you didn't opt for the $8800 premium package. Stepping into a $47k Tacoma TRD-Offroad shouldn't give you the same feeling as if you just sat in a "Work Truck" trim, but it does. TRD Off Road with hybrid motor and premium package is $60k. That's Ranger Raptor and ZR2 Bison territory without being anywhere in the realm of their performance.

At least it has one turbo instead of two to replace. Unlike the tundra, ecoboost, and rams new inline six. Toyotas like other brands now require you to bring back the vehicle for service intervals for warranty and having a chance for some kind of longevity. Over the long haul that can be very pricey. Bottom line things built today will not last as long as they use to, which means more money for the consumer to dish out.

Well, for many years most of those Tacomas are assembled in Tecate, MX., so close to the US-Mex international border. The main reason why Toyota built a factory on that location, it’s because the logistics, labor, and production is much cheaper than any location of the Americas. Even though the factory is located and managed by Mexican contractors, Japanese engineers are present there, I tell you truly because I’ve been inside the facility several times.

I strongly suggest machining a steel top hat for the internal bump stop. They don't use frame mounted ones anymore and the cast aluminum top hats are blowing up with shocks driving into the wheel wells. Also I would install a trans intercooler if you do any off roading or towing. The rear diff will overheat otherwise. Also don't allow salt to stay on the frame if you live in the mid west. They thinned out the frame too much in many sections. These will likely break in half over time. I'm not making this up. They are underbuilt compared to past gens. Just know this company has a new CEO who puts allot more focus on stock price and earnings. QC has taken a nose dive. They have cut many corners here. Facts.
