People don't realize Rodman's work ethic. He put enormous effort in in the gym and was insanely strong for his size. He was also obsessive about studying video, learning every opponents tendencies and how they impacted everything from backing down in the post to the general trajectory of their misses. The intelligence clearly displayed in his approach to the game is vastly underrated. And that's not even factoring in the psychological games he'd play against opponents either.

The pschological games he played against opponents is kind of forgotten today, but he was among the greatest to ever do it and it had huge payoffs for his team. When I think back to his time with Chicago and the playoff and championship series, one of the strongest memories is Rodman getting into the heads of their opponents. He should of gotten the MVP in the series against Utah, the biggest story going at the time was Dennis mentally crushing them. Even more impressive was how he did it, not through trash talking and bullying or cheap shit, but through all out defensive ability while staying calm and collected.

I think you're underrating Lebron as an athlete as well, he's just as big actually heavier now than KG ever was and he's far more acrobatic and explosive. Rodman wasn't guarding Shaq for long stretches like actual Cs would so it's kind've a smaller sample size. The Cs that did neutralize him though would make him work harder than usual on defense (95 finals).
@ronaszn97284 жыл бұрын
Penny dropped 38 this game and they still lost. Shaq was swept 5 times in the 90s. Outclassed by every elite big he faced. Swept by Hakeem, malone, and a 2nd year duncan. Yet stupid people will say he carried kobe. Lakers couldn't get through that western conference until kobe took over

He did carry Kobe
@jayhay84 жыл бұрын
ClutchSkeet Shaq didn’t carry Kobe but Shaq was definitely the best player on the Lakers from 2000 - 2002 and the main reason they won those titles. Kobe was very important too, but Kobe is also a big reason they lost the 2004 finals, so he wasn’t all helpful. And the 1995 loss wasn’t Shaq’s fault he put up amazing numbers it’s just the Rockets got hot and took advantage of the Magic’s relative playoff inexperience (outside of Horace Grant who didn’t play that well nonetheless). 1998 and 1999 are not fair cause Shaq was dealing with weight and injury problems, and also he didn’t even play that bad considering.

@tylerhingleton84933 жыл бұрын
@@jsn23nc Check the stats throughout all those 3 postseason runs. Kobe was never carried, and by that retarded-ass logic, then every player who won Finals MVP carried their teams, which is asinine.
@kevinrochelle63532 жыл бұрын
he did carry Kobe, the PER difference alone is huge, much less the actual points, which is also huge. Shaq AND Kobe TOGETHER could not get past the jazz for 3 years, until Phil Jackson came and cut the scrubs, got more defensive players (like Fish and Fox), and instituted the triangle offense, which let Kobe get wide open all the time because Shaq would draw the double.

From watching this video Rodman always had help. Some one always threw a hand in there. It was a good game plan not just one on one dominance. Also his technique was on point. Arm positioning, hip placement, spacing, and foot placement were perfect. He made sure he stayed under Shaq without being too low so he could impair him from taking a clean jump but still contest a shot if he did get to jump.

studydoc no it doesn’t. Only thing Shaq could do was play 3 ft from the rim. Only thing Rodman did was not allow Shaq to move him off his spot. Took him away completely lmao . I cannot believe how much Shaq got away with in terms of pushing and slamming his shoulder into the defender on every play. Why didn't they call these as offensive fouls. This is the NBA not the NFL. A defender has a right to his position and if a player in offense buries his shoulder or uses his but as a battering ram an offensive foul should be called.

Not too many ppl go in and practice for a few hours after a game but he did. Love the ppl saying he couldn't guard lebron😆 Rodman said it himself lbj only has a couple moves so he'd have no problem defending him. He'd probably make lebron foul out with all the charges he'd take cuz ya know 90 percent of lebrons game is attacking the basket.

Shaq averaged 23.7ppg for his career and about 27ppg in all his matchups with Rodman. Shaq also had 36 points the very next game and led in rebounds as well. Perfect example of the media reducing a player’s legacy to one game. Rodman couldn’t stop Shaq without a jumper but he could slow him down. It’s definitely not working against Bigs and forwards today who actually prefer to shoot.
