Good luck getting a good one. My first one failed to turn on after one week of use. Noco sent another one and that's when the story starts. Warranty unit would not charge past 12.2 volts. When I contacted warranty department they brushed me off stating that fully charged unit will have around 11.5 volts. One year forward, the warranty unit fails and I order a new one with hopes that previous one was an exception. Guess what, the new unit out of box would not charge past 12.3 V according to Gb150 internal voltmeter. Measuring open circuit voltage with oscilloscope yielded 12.2 V, way bellow 12.8 V spec on the unit. Researching the state of charge vs voltage I find that 12.2 is around 50-55% charge. As a professional roadside assistance driver I used several Gb70 units over the years and have no complaints, when not completely worn out and fully charged they will start 8 cyl diesel under normal conditions, or 8cyl with battery in the trunk and no jump from under the hood, but Gb150 has turned out into a disappointment. I also found out information that the Li Ion batteries degrade 20% sitting on the shelf which might explain this case. At the price, units don't sell fast enough and deteriorate sitting on the shelf.
@MasterQuack145 жыл бұрын
The actual rating on the battery inside the case (11.1v 120c @ 8ah) this means that you have 960 amps of continuous discharge for a maximum capacity of 25 seconds. Most well operating vehicles shouldn't take more than 3-5 seconds to bust off, but if you have a dead cold motor, keep in mind that you can only get about 4 to 5 attempts with this. Be sure to check the cold cranking amps requirement of your specific vehicle battery before buying this to make sure that it is adequate. For any gas vehicle this is more than sufficient, however, there is a bit of false advertising in the fact that this can support huge diesel jumps. If the large diesel vehicle is simply drained this will work fine if it is a 12v system, however, if you use it to jump large diesel trucks with completely discharged/internally shorted batteries, you will find that it will be a very hard start. These hard starts will work the first few times but will cause long term damage do the battery. This is why the manufacturer only rates the pack around 200 jumps at max capacity. For normal gas motors that are simply drained (not completely dead) this pack should last 3-5k jumps or more!

Will this product work in this scenario and get your car started OR will this battery inside the product be dead along with your car battery ? Thanks !!

From Michigan: At -20F, yes it will work no issue. I have never seen -40F or -40C since they are the same, in my life. LIPOs do not like cold and they do lose power when cold although the cold does not hurt them. Since this is a large battery pack, I have to assume that this and the battery in your car should do it. I have no way to test it for you. Sorry.

so i put a single group 49 battery on the truck that was dead (2.4V). it was 14F outside, the truck has greater than factory compression. i turned the key on and let the 300A grid heater run for about 14 seconds Wait to start. then i cranked it. the engine was not primed so it took 17 cranks but it fired up. the charge pack went from 100% (the night before) to 25% after jumping. the starter pulls about 750A at that temp. i HIGHLY recommend buying this tool. i got mine from my snapon truck
@dmh35667 жыл бұрын
Thank you Adam. At that low temp, yours is the most convincing test I have found. Taking 17 cranks and discharging 25% really did give the unit a work out. Like others, I wish it came with a wall charger, but it is the performance in the field that matters most. So I now have the confidence to pull the trigger on a GB150. I plan to carry it in my truck, so if it's cold out the unit will be cold as well. I plan to make an insulated bag out of Reflectix to keep it in along with few hand warmer packs. When I activate the packs, the unit should come up to full capacity temperature in 15-20 minutes. Thanks again.

I disconnected both batteries in my 06 diesel, ambient was about 45 degrees, and had a klein tools clamp meter hooked to the positive battery cable to measure ampacity. Thr gb150 fired my truck up twenty times in a row, minimum draw on the starter was about 400 amps, and the max was a little bit under 600. (when the engine was warm the crank amperage dropped to about 350) The gb150 indicated the power remaining was still around 75%. The device advertises 4000A. I only need it to put out a maximum of 1600 (CCA of two 34/78BCI batteries OEM for duramax) I had only expected half of the advertised power, but so far has met my expectations. On a really cold day (rare here) I'll try and see how much amps I can pull from it with all of the heaters fired up. (I'd hypothesize about a thousand)

BUT using the 12v socket adapter included with the unit such as that is in a car, it is closer to 8000 mAh. How is that any different than boosting a car WITH a battery? Say the booster can't detect the battery since it's below 2V, you would use the override button. Now you try starting the car.... the car starts. Guess what? You have 13 to 14+ volts running through the car battery AND booster, the alternator does not "back feed" into the booster. Now how is that different than no battery?

The biggest problem I have with these "portable power packs" is their reliability. Sure, they're great out of the box but when the rubber hits the road and you're out in the cold - with a dead battery... will these "portable power packs" work then? Doesn't matter if they come with a warranty, will a warranty jump your cars battery when you're stranded out in the middle of nowhere? Show me a reliable, portable, multi-functional jump starter that is still taking and holding a charge and able to successfully jump start after a year or more... and NOT made in China.

I cant agree more. Im hearing lots of problems with the GB70 and GB150 such as over time extreme hot and cold make the batteries swell and force the case apart, then become dangerous to explode. check out amazon.ca or amazon.com and enter noco gb150 and youll see all the complaints. Dont forget when people complain they dont specify GB30/GB40/GB70/GB150 but as a whole they are all in the same boat. Im leaning to a sealed lead acid one even though bulkier. I think they take -40 C/-40F better and you can replace the battery for 30-40 dollars every few years and keep the case, light, compressor proper charge AC cord etc. If youre in +30+ or -30C Im hearing LIPOs not the way to go unfortunately. If you start with one of those semi truck boosters ie JNC 1224 it might be overkill but they are not that much more money and you have LOTS more sustained amperage even if its -40. You lose half your power when its super cold but with a much larger pack you will have the mass to make up for it even in the hardest conditions. Im hearing you might get 2 years from Noco if youre one of the lucky customers but will likely junk it soon afterwards as the LIPO battery replacement will likely be more than the unit itself for good ones from a high quality vendor. Another try is to simply replace those LIPOS in a Noco genius with really good ones and junk those other ones. maybe noco uses expired batteries that been sitting around for quite some time. When you buy a cordless drill at Home Depot, the batteries are usually the most expensive thing. Just saying as bulky as JNC is its much more reliable Im hearing, not as dangerous and cheap to change out common sealed lead acid battery if needed, should be much better in harsh environments. Another try are those super capacitor type boosters, but they dont have near the duration, you have one shot basically or two maybe on a small car, good point is they have charge discharge 100,000 times and much more reliable than LIPOs but lack the mass of a large lead acid. Great for really small cars. Hope this helps a few of you.
