I don't think your unit ever detected the battery. You are suppose to fully charge these things before you use them for the first time. In your video around the 5:25 mark, you connected the unit and the green light blinks. All of those power lights are suppose to cycle back and forth when properly connected and detecting a battery. The battery has to have a certain level of charge left in it, in order for the unit to detect it. If the charge is below that value (I'm sure your was in those conditions) you have to press that override button, wait a minute or two and then try to start your vehicle. They have a demo on their website showing a truck being started in -32 degrees celsius. I have one and it hasn't failed me yet. Anyone looking to buy one this I recommend waiting for the blackfriday sales. You can save about $60.

T- Daddy It clearly states at 1:41 that the product was allowed to fully charge first. There was no one who wanted this device to work more then us. We gave it every opportunity under the cold conditions. If you are want to start an engine with a dead battery in sub zero temps then we don't recommend this. It can't replace a battery charger in those conditions. For almost every other application I would still not hesitate to recommend this product. It is a very innovative device. BUT...I will say this. I was able to obtain a newer model of the GB30 that will be hitting the shelves in April. We hope to review it soon.

I agree with this review. I left my NOCO in my truck just incase but when it came time to use it (in -40C mind you), it would not turn over the vehicle fast enough to start it.

Still very impressive that it would turn over being that cold ! Did you guys try the override feature as well ? Sometimes all you can do is heat the engine , the oil is like molasses .

you should probably try the gb40 model not the smaller lighter duty gb30 model. Yes it says it can jumpstart up to 6L gas engine.. "Up to..." I'm sure it would work if it wasn't cold. I am personally going to buy the gb 70 HD model for boosting my 3.0L V6 ford escape and to help anyone else out this winter. The gb 30 has somethting like 5500 starting jules where as the gb 70 has 20 000 starting jules. 4 times as powerful. So ya maybe next just try it with one of the more powerful units. Otherwise good real world test.

I live in Edmonton Alberta, last January my battery decided not to work. I friend brought one of those little booster and Nope!! -40 degrees. And didn’t want to. I wonder if there is one of those that really works with Low temperatures

Although it says it can be used on 6.0 liter gasoline engines, this isn't really true, at least not in cold weather. This is the old model now though so I wonder if the current GB40 model is any better. Still, it just shows you that you should take the advertised capabilities with a grain of salt. If it's rated for y 6L engine and yours is very close to that, you really better buy a "bigger" model which can handle 8L engines. Nice real-world test overall.

I had a GB30 and it failed me twice. One time the battery was low, so looks like it has to be recharged every few months to maintain a decent level. For that reason I gave it another chance. About two years later today, it was about 75% and wouldn’t get the car started. Fail fail fail.

You can also connect it to the battery and wait 5-10 mins and then give it a try. The one time it didn't work for me I just left it connected for 10 mins and the vehicle fired right up.

My apologies for missing that, I haven't seen the behavior you have. I did have it fail to start a 3.0L V6 in a Jaguar once, and just let it sit for 5 minutes, and after that time it started up. Temperature was -15c

I live in Canada and have tried 3 of these little booster packs. None of them have enough juice to crank my Nissan Titan (V8) in sub zero temps. I’ve given up on them altogether and wouldn’t recommend one unless you have a backup plan!

I didn't see you check the battery voltage. It's my understanding that for your booster to work properly the battery should have a 2 volt minimum charge to begin with. The booster may not work with a completely dead battery.

The battery was charged. I think the issue was how cold the truck was.

Have you guys ever tried any other units to see how they work in this scenario? I'm curious if the one you tried is just junk or if it's something that these Lithuim Ion units just really can't handle, at least not for such a large motor. I was thinking of getting one for my R1 to use when it's like 28 degrees F out at night and I"m leaving work. Thing usually won't start in those conditions even though the battery is pretty much brand new. Just too small of a battery for the motor compression and temps.

My GB30 was 100% charged and it can't start my Ford F-250 V10. 6.8L. Was pretty pathetic. It says its rated to start a 6.0L, maybe in the summer with all the right conditions. Not something I would rely on that's for sure.

Numb nuts had the headlights on! Watch the video, the headlights were flashing every time it cranked. If there was a dead short in the battery they could have disconnected the truck battery and ran it just on the GB30 only. I know because I've done it!
@Lugnutfilms
@Lugnutfilms 8 жыл бұрын
If you would have a taken a few min to read the other comments we have made you would have found out that an auto light switch is required in our location. You can't turn the lights off. The moment you turn the key they come on. The reason it could not crank is because it was to cold. That's it plain and simple. When it is that cold with no block heater on the engine it just does not have power. We did all we could to make it work. We even disconnected the battery all together, used the override and it still could not do it. On another note. When spring time came it had no problem cranking that truck with the battery disconnected. It's a nice unit. Just not a solution for extreme cold weather starts.

We have responded to this a few times. Some places require and auto light switch. This truck has that. So it is impossible to start the vehicle with the lights off.

First you did not try the bypass feature, second you did not choose the right charger for the job, you should have got a GB40 which is a 1000 amps 7000 Joules, This is a truck dude !!! . or maybe better, use a GB70, 2000 amps
@Lugnutfilms
@Lugnutfilms 7 жыл бұрын
+Martin St-Pierre we did try the bypass feature. Not to mention that on the package NOCO claimed that it would start a 6L engine. I feel like we were being fair. I don't really blame the unit as much as I do the cold. I think in normal conditions it would work fine. This was a cold weather test.

all I can say if these things are so good, and work as well as they claim. why do mechanics and workshops(like myself) spend hundreds of dollars on equipment to be able to go out and jump start a car when we all could just go and buy one of these for a fraction of the cost
@martinst-pierre959
@martinst-pierre959 7 жыл бұрын
This is for occasional jump starts, not everyday heavy duty jump start equipment like the ones found on workshops that cost thousand of dollars. The efficiency of those little jump start packs is 90 % better than those found on workshops, but are not made for everyday use.

NOCO is selling a lot of these units, and others, to people with no idea how over rated and outright misleading the units specifications are. It takes up to 14 hours to charge, the internal soldering of the wiring is a nightmare if not outright dangerous. These units are good for 5-6 cold engine starts, after that the battery is never the same. Good luck using this fine piece of Chinese manufacturing and shoddy quality. NOCO has managed to get away with selling promises over performance. Try that unit after using it 5-6 times and after it has sat in the cold for several days.
