I have two of these since 2018. Every few months I have topped them off. Recently I acquired capacity test equipment, which drains the unit until the USB output falls below 4V and reports the mA*h consumed. After a top-off, one of them provided 3030 and the other only 2431. After charging them both back up, the capacity increased to 3532 and 3492 on the second test. So in the future I will do a full discharge and recharge once a year before winter, instead of a frequent top off. Evidently the top off causes the three cells in the battery pack to become unbalanced. The full cycle seems to make sure all three cells are at their best. For those of you who want to do this too, keep in mind the NOCO can also be used as a power bank to recharge your phone or other devices.

I've had the GB70 for a while now and I love it. It starts my 5.3 V8 several times on a charge and its a newer engine so it still has decent compression. The built in circuit protection is also cool and really dummy proofs it (won't let you attach it backwards and fry your computers). I got tired of dealing with long jumper wires and a second vehicle. The light on it is also super handy and quite bright. I've used it when camping (3 nights, for a majority of the night) and still had battery to spare. Definitely worth the money!

You mention that the battery may be too dead to jump @3:40. The GB40 has an override button with the red exclamation symbol on it. You hold this override button for a few seconds and then the chaser power level lights will come on. This should only be used if the battery is completely dead and is not recognized by the GB40. Using this override setting disables the safety features of the unit but does NOT increase the cranking power as some people think.

In addition to this comment, when you press that boost button for a couple of seconds, you then have full 12V power coming out of the clips. I use the battery pack to run my 12V air compressor which normally requires a car battery hookup. That makes it pretty useful.

Are they designed to run a vehicle/machine with no battery in it at all?? If there is no battery installed and you start and run the machine on this jump pack, all of the charge from alternator will be going into this little jump pack and there will be no battery to absorb all of the amperage. I don’t know if it can handle that?

NOCO GB40 is a great product. I’ve used mine 4 times over three years it worked flawlessly. The instructions are brief and the GB 40 is easy to use. BTW the GB 40 is rated for up to a 6 liter gas or 3 liter diesel engine’s. Worth noting if the battery is toast meaning it’s unable to be charged this jumper might not get you going. It wasn't far but still. Maybe more than a mile or 2. Other time I used it on friends Toyota 4runner SUV and he was so impressed with it that he actually ordered one. Other use that I had for it was to connect portable car tire inflator to fill up a tire without using car's battery or 12V port. Really great device. I have it for 3 years and still going strong.

I just got one for Christmas! Something you didn't mention which is a great feature is the very powerful dual flashlight! It also comes with a nice drawstring carrying bag that way the jumper attachment and the included double sided USB-C cord don't get lost from the jumper unit. Furthermore, if you have a 12V DC to USB adapter in your car and a corresponding USB-C cord (remember, the included USB cord is USB-C on BOTH ends whereas most adapters have a standard computer USB jack) then you could keep the gb40 battery charged and topped off during normal driving if need be. One last thing I want to mention is that in the user manual it says do not use on frozen batteries. I don't know what the repercussions would be, but that seems pretty important to know, as car batteries are more likely to go dead in freezing temperatures.

Jump starters are like having a life saver especially in the winter. After having a different brand for 9 years, I just bought a NOCO. The temperature has been in the single digits (that's in Fahrenheit for all the intentional peeps reading this 😌) so I'm actually looking forward to my car not not starting just so I can use it 😂 I had a less powerful jump starter that I used dozens of times over a span of 9 years and it was a 750amp jump starter. The NOCO jump starter I just bought is 1000 amps so it gives me peace of mind knowing it has more power than my previous jump starter. These are well worth the price as they give you peace of mind, especially if you want to make sure your family members won't be stranded if the battery dies especially when it reaches the single digits temperatures in the winter.

Had to have it towed to the dealership. they were great and said I needed a new battery. The next 2 times, the car would turn over but not start. Again had to be towed. Every test that the dealer could perform was done. They can't find the problem. The dealership even contacted American Honda but no solution can be found. I'm now on my third battery and have had the car 4 years. The tow truck driver jump starts the car and it runs like it should. This is why i purchased the Noco GB 40. It won't solve the problem but hopefully it can start the car and I won't have to wait for AAA. All of these issues have happened during weather that was in the 90s-100s. What I’ve come to believe is that the battery has to have some charge to it for the jumper pack’s electrics to acknowledge that it’s connect to a battery to jump it. So it won’t work on a completely dead battery. You’ll probably need to get a charger.

Thanks, Matt. I hadn't used mine yet and forgot that the cables came in their own storage bag. I panicked until you pointed that out, then I knew where to find them. :)

I've got the gb70 brought it couple days ago, comes with no charger plug witch is bad, so i’ve had to use a usb plug and it’s taken all night to charge, then when i've used it today i was turning over the car and it would start so kept turning it over for about 30 seconds and the jumper was complete flat!

so what is the difference between all the models? is it pretty much that they just hold different amounts of " jumps"?
@SimplyMustGo2 жыл бұрын
Sort. It’s more about the power they bring to actually start the car or truck. Some take a bigger initial jolt of power than others. But some have additional features like more or different usb ports, LCD screens, some even are combo tire inflators.

Please accept a comment that's a bit off-topic. When hanging the American flag, the stars correctly hang on the left side, not right ride. Hope you will correct? Thank you.

Thanks! Yeah lots of other people made that comment too. It was never meant to be there, my flag pole was breaking and so I had hung it quickly to keep it off the ground. Don't worry, it’s back where it belongs.

What do I do if I have to use the manual override, then turn it off and back on without the manual override, it starts detecting the battery but would not crank the engine? The clmps connected securely. The car was sitting on th elot for close to two weeks. A 2 year old Bosch battery made in Germany.

Nice video, thanks. Didn’t see it said before in the comments, but your US flag hanging behind you is backwards. When hung that way the stars are supposed to be on the viewers left. Just thought I’d let ya know. Thanks again for the video!!

THANKS STEVEN DOAN , FOR POINTING THAT OUT , AND THANKS SIMPLY MUST GO for the wonderful video and information !!!! I have been considering condemning my NOCO,for just about a YEAR NOW , because my 2005 HondA CRV has not cranked up for a year now ...... but I REFUSE TO CONDEMN IT !!!!!! it cranked up that SAME HONDA 5 TIMES PRIOR to this NO CRANK , NO START CONDITION ....and I am racking my not particularly mechanical ( ELECTRONIC ) brain trying to get my FRIEND back on the road again ..... if you can CHARGE CELL PHONES AND LAPTOPS AND VERY SESITIVE EQUIPMENT LIKE THAT , I REFUSE TO BELIEVE it messed up my pcm or ecm or ANYTHING of that nature ...... but as one COMMENTOR already pointed out , ' ALL OF THIS STUFF IS MADE IN CHINA ' ..... and THAT disturbs me ALOT !!!!

Average Car Battery life is 4-6 years . Some are treated better than others . If the Battery is the original it's as old as your car easy to figure out . If it's the second Battery you bought there Are usually Date Code stickers on the Battery Month and Year the Battery was made . 11/15 Nov of 2015 so if you find your Battery died and you had maybe only say left a light on a short time or played the Stereo for a short time and you need a Boost it maybe time for a New Battery ... Also if you know your Battery is not very old but your car is Highmilage it would be a good idea to have both the Battery and Alternator tested at a Shop ........ the Alternator and charge system get a work out the whole time the motor is running so those high milage cars and trucks are sometimes running on WEAK Alternators . Something to think about as you get running and have a chance to drive to a Shop and get things checked. Sadly also to say even in the Newer Battery older Alternator senario the weak alternator might have slowly damaged the battery that is the Battery had to work harder leading up to the Failure point ..... So don't be too surprised if the shop suggests a New Battery as well or as is common a few weeks later the Battery dies ...... it's normal because of that abuse it took . As the alternator was weak .

It was the second battery and about 3 years old. We did end up replacing it.
@clange503 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think my alternator is on it's way out, as my battery dies in long stop and go traffic (happened twice in like 3 years). The gb40 has gotten me home to recharge though.

The only problem with the booster batteries is that you need to take them into the hous or garage in the winter. They fail when they are cold.
@paulanderson77968 ай бұрын
Can you elaborate please?
@josephloh2562 ай бұрын
Did you use manual override to jumpstart the dead battery? Did the lights on the GB40 chase when you connected it to the dead battery? All this crucial information was not covered in your video.
@SimplyMustGo2 ай бұрын
Sorry. It was my time testing out a jumper pack. I've learned a lot since then. But no, I didn't use the boost option. I will say of all of the jumper packs I have now the GB40 is my least favorite.

my NOCO genius boost seem to have stopped working after one successful use. Since then I used it to try to jump two cars and it just did nothing. I have the one for 6L engine (cause I have 4,2L diesel truck) and the other cars were quite small vehicles. I don't really know how to test it even. (outside of the dead cars that stayed dead) I have it for over 2 years - so no waranty
@SimplyMustGo3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. Do you know if the batteries were completely dead? Was the car making a clicking noise or did any lights come on? I don’t know for sure, it I think for the jumper packs to work. The battery has to have a little charge left in it. I’m not 100% sure on that. But it’s the conclusion I’ve drawn from some other people.
@DanielTejnicky3 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyMustGo Well one car was making clicking noise. It was Micra I think. Then there was BMW that some russians were desperate to jump. It had the battery covered in some metal case partially built in under the windshield, I've never seen anything like that before. I connected NOCO where they told me equivalents of terminals were - nothing. Oh yea and I was trying to jump after entire winter of not using, my Fiesta - completly dead. So maybe it was all cases when it could not work? I know clicking means starter is trying to spin and that means small charge, but other than that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Glad it worked for you. I've had one of these for a couple of years, and its never managed to start anything. Even vehicles with batteries far less dead than the one in your video. It has some utility as a phone/laptop charger, but as a jump starter, its worthless.

I just bought one so I won't have to depend on others and it's takes up less room than my heavy duty extra long jumper cables.
