From day one nobody cared about the color. They were the best fans available. I still view the black ones as "nice to have," there are no other fans going in my case no matter what they look like.

So much demand they waited ten years. Yeah, most of the people who "wanted" black noctuas were just trying to say they don't care what fans they have. The best fans were brown, and it didn't hurt noctua's sales one bit. You're talking about a company that only makes fans and heatsinks at a high price and has had zero quality control issues. That's not something you do when you're losing money.

And, the duration of time they waited to fulfill the interests of their customer base is kind of irrelevant when gauging whether it not they should have... if the company eventually did it. Noctua (and everyone but you) obviously thinks it was worth doing.

I like how my Node 202 with AIO uses 3 noctua fans for cooling. You can barely see the "ugly" fans through the shrouds. The system is really quiet and performs well. Those brown fans kinda give a case like this a "hotrod" look.

I ordered this cooler just for the fan when Linus announced it. I put it on a Cryorig C7G for the ultimate itx matte black cooler. Incredible performance with my 3700x in the Sentry 2.0 case and looks great. I highly recommend this new Chromax line and the copper based Cryorig coolers.

i remember wanting this when i built my #193 S4M-C back in 2017, and now its out lol. too bad the LP53 beats the NHL9i, at least now you can use the Chromax AF-N9x14 fan from this new black cooler! I hope they release the 120mmx15mm version in black too, I've got that fan and the original Alpenphon Blackridge in my S4M-C now and its got better temps than even the LP53 + AF-N9x14 combo i used to have. :) Thanks for the review, i always enjoy seeing the S4M-C in your channel and the Noctua CPU heatsink fan review as very comprehensive! You should update your S4M-C build or do an S4M build? Or did you move on from those smaller cases?

Nice to see Noctua adding more black to their product line. Never been a fan, (no phun intended) of the brown. However, there is one build I've been wanting to do with brown fans, and that is using the ASUS Sabretooth X58 motherboard. Picturing a military/army themed build in my mind.

@@Tekeverything That's a good question. it's an ATX board, so it would need a large case. When I first thought about the build I landed on a case from Svive, an in-house brand from an online retailer here in Norway: www.komplett.no/product/1090680/ Other possible candidates would be the gray version of the Fractal Design Focus, or the be quiet! Pure Base 500 in gunmetal gray. None of these are perfect, really. Ideally it would be a rugged looking case in gray or olive green. To get it right the case might require some slight modding. The rest of the component would have to match the look too. RAM wouldn't be so hard, but finding a matching GPU might be a bit trickier.

I like it but why slap a $10 price increase over the original design? I already own 2 of the now discontinued NH-L12, would appreciate it if they were to re-release those with the chromax retrofit even though the brown and tan color of the fan is hidden from view by the cooler and isn't as prominent like it is on the other pre-chromax designed coolers.

its because the new Noctua NH-L9i Chromax Fan is 2500rpm. the old non-black brown version uses 2300rpm

Because the L9i can be used on AM4 aswell as LGA, whilst L9a can only be used on AM4. In this way they can maximize profit for this process; Noctua claims it is very difficult and tedious to coat the heatsinks without clmpromising the cooling capacity

I took a sharpie to my fan for my cooler in the InWin Chopin case, I hope they release the fans by themselves in black - I hate to spend $50 just for the black fan as you can't really see the heat sink in the Chopin case unless you take the panel off.

Wich stock cooler? Intels or Amd's. And this cooler is 37 while most of the stock ones are 48. The fan is quieter, while proforming the same if not slightly better. It's not for everyone its ment for the mini itx market

Sometimes, you highlight your monochrome system with Noctua signature color. For me, it would go so good with "Aluminum/steel"-theme. Over-all black theme is good. Good for people new and old.
