I use Noctua air coolers for three reasons: 1) I don't use windowed cases so I don't get to show off a water system anyway (though I happen to think NH coolers look great) 2) Built-in fail-safe: Even if the cooler fan breaks, that heat sink will still work with the other case fans to keep the cpu from frying. And replacing an air cooler fan is one of the simplest fixes there is. 3) Beautiful silence. It's amazing how cool and quiet you can get with quality case fans and a solidly made air cooler. Even overclocking (within reason), air coolers do the job nicely. For work environments, it's a simple, straightforward, reliable setup.

If anyone is on the fence on Noctua coolers, buy them. They are an amazing company. I have NH-U9B, a much smaller cooler than this one but solid. I bought that cooler for a fist gen core i7. Upgraded to the 4930K, which uses different mounting bracket. I thought I'd have to get a new cooler but all I had to do is send my invoices for my new hardware to Noctua (over email) and about a week later they sent me a new mounting bracket so I could use the same cooler. It was 100% free. I know he mentioned this in the video but these guys are the real deal. They have earned themselves a customer for life.

Christopher Snow hi again Christopher :D i have got the 550D , now i have more problems , i bought Zalman cnps10x performa and i don't like it's sound now i am looking for a new cpu cooler i heared alot about Noctua , here in egypt all i can found is NH-U12S , NH-D14 and i think the NH-U12S is more silent what do you think ? and 1 more thing , i don't know how to connect the case fans , my motherboard got only 1 socket , it can handle only 1 fan from the Case fans if i connect the rest to the power supply i get a full speed and it's noisy what do you think ? fan controller is currently out of stock of the stores , is there's any other way to solve this ?
@verisimilitudeteller10 жыл бұрын
remos hakem Well something that needs to be taken into account no matter which you pick is clearance, is it going to bump into anything else you have on the mobo? Particularly the heatspreaders on memory modules. All of the noctua ones are good, keep in mind that the larger the fan is, the slower you can run it and get equal cooling with less noise. Before giving up on the Zalman completely, make sure you go into the BIOS and adjust the speed of the CPU fan so that it's in Quiet mode. Might not be as noisy for you that way and you won't have to change it at all. What motherboard do you have that has only 1 fan header?
@remos200810 жыл бұрын
Christopher Snow it's B75.M gigabyte and the power supply is Seasonic Eco 500 , i dun know if they can't handle something ? or what , and i made it quiet mode already but i think they make a little noise
@verisimilitudeteller10 жыл бұрын
Ok, not sure which model of B75M motherboard it is, there are 4 different motherboards with that B75M designation from Gigabyte. But on one schematic I see CPU_Fan and a second fan header with the label "SYS_FAN" There is more than one solution to this problem, you can either get a fan controller to stick a Molex or Sata connector for power for the case fans, you can just use a splitter on the SYS_FAN header to connect the 2 120's with and another splitter for the CPU/Rear fan. That's the thing about those boards designated with a "B", they're budget orientated but they cut some corners and one of those is with the number of fan headers they offer. I have a Gigabyte Z77 that has at least 4-5 fan headers as I recall. It's why I usually don't recommend the lower priced boards like that, but it can be made to work, with a little work. *grin*

I am going with a high end air cooler for my current build in progress. Part of the reason for that is because I plan on passing it on to a family member when I build a new rig next year. Even a sealed all in one water unit would need to be inspected periodically. With an air cooler they just need to check to make sure the fan is still working and even if it failed the fins might provide enough cooling to let the cpu just throttle down gently without damage. A failed pump or a leak in a water cooling system could be more serious.

I was given a NH-D14 as a gift. After reading the results of multiple cooler comparison tests and making sure it would fit in my case, I kept it. One reason is it performed slightly better than the NH-U14S. Reality is that the performance difference, while better, is not significant. I would have bought the U14s for the space saving. Since it was a bit better, I didn't want to go to the trouble of returning it to swap it out. After reading the horror stories of leaking water coolers and seeing that the best water cooler performance (at higher $$$) doesn't increase, significantly, the performance of my system: i7 4930K, Asus Sabertooth X79, Sapphire R9 290X w/aftermarket air cooler. My system runs well under the throttle point of my CPU or GPU even overclocked.

I'm running the Antec Kuhler Flow air cooler. I mainly went with that one because it has an offset design so it completely clears the memory modules. I'm running 4x4 GB G.Skill memory with a dedicated memory cooler. I didn't want to go with water cooling and the Kuhler Flow seemed like the best option. I do have good temps with the Kuhler Flow (has not gone beyond 38C under load) but part of that is because my CPU has a TDP of 95W. I was using the stock cooler and got up to 75C under load.

What are the details of the benchmarks?? What was used for the load temps? Was the highest peak temperature chosen or were the max temps for each core averaged to get the 61c result for the 14S??

You have a great job. Making youtube videos on a subject you love. But this got me thinking. You also have a great camera, and even mic. Why not an unboxing on those?

Pretty sure they have with some of their products in the future, check out one of Linus' video where he show cases Noctua at some event and I'm pretty sure they had black fans instead of the brown. However and from a brilliant marketing perspective you'll always know it's a Noctua fan by the distinctive colour therefore realizing that it's a bloody good product.

is Noctua NH-U14S could be enough with ryzen7 5800x?

Without doubt..

There should also be a Db chart. The U14S achieves it's performance while also being much quieter than a stock H100i or most other coolers for that matter. That Noctua fan is amazing.

A video from 6 years ago and these coolers (nh-u14s, nh-d15) are still on the market. I have an AIO cooler but it has a pump error and broken. I'm gonna buy an air cooler but all comparison videos seems old. How about a new one Linus?

Went with air as I love the look. Got a NH-D14 and it's keeping my 3570k nice and cool.

I'm using this cooler on my Z170 build. Really great quality. Only downside was the mounting brace/crossbar was screwed on up-side down. Luckily the allen wrench is long enough and fits perfectly in the hole in the middle of the cooler.

I wonder if it fits into a CM 690, the first one model 2008-2009, not CM 690 II or later model. The case width is according to the specs, 213mm.

I liked how you included slick for the stats part. That said, it almost looked like he was drugged, slicknapped then forced to be on camera at gunpoint haha!
