Obviously it shouldnt be: "Frames per second, more is better" It's "Temperature: °C, less is better"

So they tried to install the heatsink on the board while it was still in the case and then complain about how hard it is. Take it out of the case to install it?

No no, clearly, you'd run an rma, repackage it, and then drop it off and wait for them to credit you again. That's way more logical than removing the mobo.
@Markinpuff6 жыл бұрын
DocTheMedic3 They didn’t install it right, the bolts/nuts go on the mount first, that’s what the tiny wrench is for. The cooler is attached from the back of the motherboard.

I am very happy with mine. I would say that my hands are probably the same or larger than Slicks. So be aware they are not at all kidding about the difficult installation. My case is an Enthoo Pro which allowed me to pull the top of the case and the fans out(which exposes a large hole in the top) to let me get to the top two nuts for the cooler. If you have a similar case you will also be able to make it work.

You should really take your motherboard out of the case when you're installing a big heatsink like that. Considering the size difference, it comes as no surprise this cooler was more difficult to install than the NH U14S.
@nielsostman11 жыл бұрын
at 4:00 it looks like you used a Noctua fan on the heatsink. Is it a fair comparison to the competition if you don't use the included fan?
@Ostebaronen11 жыл бұрын
Their standardized testing rig uses only Nocuta fans. So everything they test in it uses the same brand and model fan. This means only the heatsink itself is tested, not the fan.
@nielsostman11 жыл бұрын
But doesn't it make more sense to test the product you receive in the package? If I am to buy one tomorrow, I won't have any Noctua fans to mount on it.
@Ostebaronen11 жыл бұрын
This is due to the variation in parameters, (air flow, static pressure and noise level) the various fans produce. To no have to adjust all the fans to perform exactly the same, they are using the same type of fan in all of their tests. Sure there isn't a Noctua fan in the package, but to be able to properly compare the performance of the various heatsinks, conditions must be the same. If you want reviews where the default fan is used, TechPowerUp, Overclockers.com, Hardwareheaven, Tom's Hardware, Hard OCP and many others have them. Then you can compare their numbers to the ones Linus provides.
@remnant2411 жыл бұрын

I need to ask, but how do Coolers do anything with Frames Per Second? The charts at the bottom said "Frames Per Second - More is Better" is this a screw up, or did CPU coolers suddenly make computers have a better FPS?

So with the newest card sets from Nvidia and AMD the cooler you can keep your card the more overclocking you can put on it. This then translates to better fps.

I have a 140mm heatsink that doesn't protrude much and sort of leans over my ram. I can't overclock this i3 and under prime95 load it doesn't exceed 40 degrees celcius iirc. I don't hear anything coming from it once I replaced it with a noctua fan. When I upgrade to an unlocked i5 I might switch to a dual rad.

i bought HR-02 Macho and for no apparent reason replaced the TY-140 with TY-143(even though it never goes past 1300 rpm) and i love it. FX8350 with turbo never goes past 47C even during long testing.

@SilverT3a11 жыл бұрын
Would be great to see noise levels comparison as well. Also in this video graphs says you've measured not temps but fps, which is obvious typo. As for inability of mounting this cooler using large hands probably would be solved if you'd mount it outside of case. I'd choose a big and quiet cooler that cools really well to answer your question.
@plphotovideo11 жыл бұрын
For the sake of installation you can take the motherboard out to install it, though it's not ideal. For the marginal cooling performance compared to the Noctua I would go for the smaller, easier to install one. Then again I would personally spend a little more and get an NH-D14 or PH-TC14PE unless space was an issue.
@JTMarch869 жыл бұрын
Luke, it might help if you removed the video card first, or just simply install the cooler onto the motherboard outside the case. But yea, big heatsinks like that are hard to get around. There's not really a way to make it easily accessible without impacting performance (like creating a hole where a screwdriver can fit down into, etc..)
@pjd0ioas9 жыл бұрын
+Jordan March I bought the shadow rock 2 and the installation was a pain in the ass. At least if you have an AMD cpu it is. It is a bit easier to install if you do it all outside of the case, but if you do it outside then depending on your motherboard you may have a hard time tightening the screws into the motherboard standoffs (was the case for me)

@cartermassa11 жыл бұрын
David Clark its the way the benchmark scores (in FPS) its just measuring how the processor is preforming by its boost overclock

Carter Massa but does that graph not say that cooler is second to the bottom in performance because the graph said that more fps is better ? sorry for asking I having a hard time understanding the graph
@cartermassa11 жыл бұрын
Because more FPS is better its just how the benchmark runs off the CPU..... so if your CPU is cooler it runs better at the boost clock, so the benchmark runs more fluid and doesn't stutter so MORE FPS lol jk P.S. not a stupid question you just didn't know :)
@ManWithBeard199011 жыл бұрын
I wonder if it might perform better if you stick some duct tape on the sides, to keep the moving air inside the heatsink long enough to reach the second set of heatpipes.
@0sm1um7610 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't do that if I were you, the adhesive form the duck tape could gunk up the insides of the heatsink which would be very hard to get out.
@ManWithBeard199010 жыл бұрын
You're probably right. Dust would probably stick to the adhesive as well. That being said, I still think it would preform better if you could close off the sides somehow.
@0sm1um7610 жыл бұрын
ManWithBeard1990 I know what you mean. Maybe if you used two things of electrical tape so no adhesive is exposed and use clips to fasten it to the heatsink it might help.

The most important thing for me is the noise. After that comes the temperature and the last is the design. I'm using the akasa nero 3 cooler, which is really quiet (you can't hear it at all), it preforms well (always keeps my i5 at 3,8GHz lower than 60°C), but it is really tall and so you actually need a preety big (wide) case to get it in.
