Noel speaks of this song in the same manner that I listen to it. With so much emotion. One of the most beautiful songs he's ever written in his entire career. Dead in the Water is a testament to Noel's brilliance, and proof that he is the greatest songwriter of his generation.

he's right about the crying.... I cried when I saw him perform it live, the first time I heard the tune. He snuck it in his setlist and it caught me by surprise.

He's joking around, but I actually was on the verge of tears when I heard the song live. Truly great.

Imagine being such a good writer you could forget that you wrote a song like that

I played this song, briefly in the car, for my girlfriend the day-of his concert in Oakland, CA. She vaguely picked-up on the melody/tune, etc. - When he played it live she cried. I had chilled bones. It's really that kind of song.

No it isn't. The wonderwall single has sold more copies than the entire NGHFB catalogue, and is an anthem familiar to millions all over the world. Dead in the water is the best song he's written in the last 5 years, and best song off a terrible album. But most of Noel's quality work was done pre-2000. Anything after standing on the shoulder of giants album just wasn't the same, in my humble opinion. They gave up the recipe of Noel being the principle song writer, and Liam the principle vocalist, and Noel started writing more songs for himself to sing and let the rest of the band write their own songs, most of which were crap.

You people crazy. Not only is this good, the whole album is too. He is an amazing studio artist; ive never them live but i imagine it's just as well . The tempo is a little more upbeat from the others, but it's great and makes you want move. Give it a third listen

Yeah you're right ! And it's like... 100000× much better in live, really an experience to do. Because (it's depends) he doesn't speak a lot between the songs, but sometimes you don't need words... if you can see him, go, really !

It's a great example of how less is more. If that was recorded in the Be Here Now sessions, it'd have twenty guitar tracks etc.
@djangocesttout2900 Жыл бұрын
Not necessary, look at ""Going Nowhere", which was the B-side of Stand by me. It's not overproducced. But yes you're right, less is more most of the time

What, nobody likes _Who Built the Moon?_ Why?? Sure it's a little different, but it's not like the MATERIAL sucks, right? It's solid, interesting stuff. The biggest problem I have with it (and it's BIG fucking problem) is that I don't like how it SOUNDS. I don't like how it's mixed-it's very bland. Compare that with _As You Were_ by his brother, which sounds HUGE. That's because Liam and his producer / co-writer used computer samples and whatnot . . . hear how the drums are really hard-hitting in that record?? Computers, man-used correctly, they can turn a great album REALLY great (WHEN USED, AGAIN, *CORRECTLY!)*
@tinandgonic39276 жыл бұрын
my biggest problem is that the melody of the verses bore the crap out of me. I don't mind him trying to do sth different. I was excited after seeing that album teaser. but man...feels like he wanted sth psychedelic so bad that he didn't care much for quality anymore. take "she tought me how to fly" for example. chorus ain't bad, good melody, then goes back to that monotonous "the one I love...." verse. coulda been so much better I think.

Good tune, album has 2 or 3 decent tunes. Fact is he thinks it's great as he broke loose but it could have done with him doing what he does with an over lay of something different. It's just not a great album - end of story

Sure Noel, I bet the guy playing piano had never heard it before, and you also didn't know it was being recorded professionally? It was just magic because you're a godlike genius!! For 25 years he's been pretending he's such a natural hit-maker, and puts almost no effort into songwriting. Alan McGee said he suspected Noel had like 50 songs written when he signed him to Creation Records (alot of them ended up being B-sides and the masterplan album), but Noel kept pretending he was writing a new hit every week effortlessly. Anyways, this is literally the only good song off who built the moon.
