Ngl as a woman it never occurred to me that men would also be asked abt doctor gender preference for intimate areas check-ups but im glad to know it is a thing bc you never know what gender based traumas or anxieties someone might have so its always good to present patients with that option but i will say its telling that he got asked if he wanted a man or a woman while ive only ever been asked if i wanted a woman specifically or was fine with any gender like yeah theres probably not a whole lot of women specifically asking for male gynos lol

2 me, it’s weird when cishet men have a preference, because it’s almost always just the internalized homophobia of “ah dude i don’t want a guy feeling me up that’s fuckin weird!!” and that’s fine and all, just kind of a self report. and wanting a female makes it even worse to me, because then you’re acknowledging the sexual undertones of the whole thing, and requesting that your preferred gender be the one to make you sexually vulnerable? just tied up in a buncha weird power dynamics

I understand what ur saying but it's literally all undercut by the fact that if there is any possible power dynamics going on, the doctor would be the one in a more powerful position. The goal is to make the patient comfortable it's okay if a man doesn't like being felt up by men or vice versa, they're the vulnerable one which is why they are allowed to decide.

you are probably completely correct that some people do think like that(women included), it seems like he isn't really talking about sexual undertones but more about awkwardness. the same choice could be made by a really awkward person who judged one situation as less awkward than another. he even ties it up comedywise by bringing up the awkward interaction he had with the doctor afterwards

Noelle not wanting a male doctor for a prostrate exam feels vaguely homophobic even if he doesn’t even consciously realize it 😅😂🤷🏼‍♂️ like it’s all professional, so a male or female doctor shouldn’t matter, like at all 😂 and tbh you WANT a male doctor as a male, they understand your body better. I know all doctors have mostly the same education but it’s a experience thing 🤷🏼‍♂️
