I don't think it's intentional (although there definitely is bias if the common journalist is presented with those two cases) but it's more of having to do with whatever story stands out more. A murder done with a gun is more interesting for today's news than a self-defense usage is. A gun owner stopping a home invader isn't gonna be as newsworthy as a shooting. Media is just based on human psychology. People usually prefer to live their lives hearing about tragedies, and so the media that they build caters to that desire.

"Osama isn't going to come through your door with an AK-47, so why do you need an assault rifle?" What she is saying is that we - the victims of the crime, who she herself said have the right to self defense - should only be allowed to have the same level of firepower as the criminals do. She is saying that she wants us to have a 50/50 chance of winning any self defense battle -and that we have no right to use more firepower than the criminal is to increase those odds. If you were driving down the road, and a drunk driver in a pos 1995 chevy s-10 with a 2 star crash safety rating swerves into your lane, should you only have the 'need' for a 2 star rated car? Or would you rather be in a 5 star rated car? So why should we only have the 'need' for whatever weapon the bad guy is using?

+Scrane It's only a wall if you aren't prepared for it. I've been able to change the minds of some people by simply letting them speak and then pointing them to federal statistics, youtube videos (mainly for visuals), or founding father quotes that contradict their thinking. Especially when it comes to the "assault rifle" debate. That being said, there are some that simply ignore the facts presented to them. At that point, you can then call them out for being a bigot and not ACTUALLY caring about other people, but rather simply wanting to restrict others right to life.

just watching you talking with your anti-gun friend for a few moments brought back so many memories and feelings of frustration in talking with my own friends and family who simply don't understand. Even my sister who does believe in handguns for self defense balked at my AR-15. She doesn't understand all the other factors and she just thinks "you don't need that so why have it" and I have other family members who think they support guns because they know hunting is a tradition in our family but they don't understand that the 2nd amendment goes so much further and the real reason behind it has nothing to do with hunting at all. I would like to see more of your discussion with your friend because these are such difficult issues to make someone else understand, even it seems so simple to you. they just don't get it.

Sorry to hear that man. Just hearing about situations like that frustrate beyond reason. I have friends who are opposed to firearms and trying to reason with them is like talking a blank wall. Just remeber that by demonstrating you are a responsible citizen who can handle firearms is the best argument you have. Gun owners are not the problem. Violence is the problem. We will always have violence and in order to protect ourselves we need to learn how to use the proper tools. Handguns are readily available options for self defense and with the proper training you can save your life and others. Stay strong friend!

Growing up in rural Central Kansas there isn't much resistance to gun ownership. I'm so glad I live in the country away from the idiotic big city liberals. I never worried about personal protection until I was assaulted by a couple of punks. I owned several guns, but used them mainly hunting and entertainment. When I was a kid and we had family get togethers, after feasting on the table everyone contributed to, we would go for a little plinking fun. After being assaulted I started carrying because I never want to be put in that position again. Now plinking is taken more seriously because there are times when you have to go to town. It's also important to remember that the SHTF anytime and it can come from several different sources. That's the reason I've added several weapons to my arsenal along with thousands of rounds of ammo. I don't plan to be caught with my pants down, and you can't have too many guns or too much ammunition.
@flippy510909 жыл бұрын
Yah I get that and I live in Dallas Texas. My brother in law flipped out when my wife told him I bought an AkM saying it was illegal and saying that he should go to the police , keep in mind that it is not illegal in my state and that I am a legal citizen with no criminal record or any thing stoping me for purchasing one.
@cephasmartin85939 жыл бұрын
+flippy51090 I can understand that. There are kooks who "think" they know what's legal and illegal concerning guns. And that's where the trouble starts. They shoot off their mouths to someone who shoots off his mouth . . . and soon you're one of those crazed preppers with an arsenal of ammunition and weapons ready to take over the country when all you want is something to protect yourself and your family with and that you can use for hunting and sport. I have given each of my 4 grown kids a handgun, a handgun safe, and an AR15 and ammunition for both. It was several months before I told my wife about being assaulted. I did so only after she noticed one of my pistols sitting out. Since then I have been open about my weapon purchases and I also gave her a pistol and safe. She thinks I spend too much money on firearms, but she admits that it's my money, so I can spend it on what I want. I'm satisfied with my present number of weapons, which also includes two compound bows and a crossbow. I can hunt for large and small game and I have the means to protect my wife and myself. And I can go out and amuse myself by shooting targets or just plinking, which helps keeps my shooting sharp. And if the SHTF, I hope my kids will come home.
@mobstamaniac7 жыл бұрын
Even then, you could have perhaps an AR-15 in .308 as a hunting rifle and people all over the US use the AR platform to hunt anyway, so it's multi role and it really just nullifies their arguments against the AR in particular not being a sporting rifle. Hope to move to the US from NZ at some point, hope 2A is intact when I get there.

The first thing he said when we got into the car afterward was "Now I get why police shoot so many bullets sometimes." The following discussions between us made me realize just how much fear and misunderstanding (like so many other things) stem from simple ignorance. My dad could talk all day long about gun stats and ideals, but he never realized just what the tools he criticized were like to USE. Suffice to say, we'll be back to the range soon.

+SnowGo---V12 Their actually cheaper in the European black market than they are over the counter here. Japan's got very restrictive gun laws and the Yakuza still have plenty of firearms. Though, without much armed resistance, they don't have to bring them out as much. Hell, unauthorized firearms possession can get you the death penalty in China, but that doesn't stop the criminals there, either. Criminals don't follow the law and will find ways to get what they want. Got a crime syndicate? Find a machinist, set him up with a shop, and pay him decently. There's your gun supply. Add in a guy who knows a little chemistry and you've got your ammo as well. Meanwhile those of us who follow the law are pretty much defenseless when the armed thugs come our way.

Trump is going to have his hands full with all the other problems in this country, he probably will stop any new restrictions and improve CCW laws but I think that is all he will have time to do since his focus is on bigger things. 2A isn't defended or secured by the politicians, it is done so by the people. The only way to beat gun control is to violate it. People are scared to be labeled a criminal, but you have to realize that you are making a choice between freedom (which actually follows the true law) or submission out of fear.

I don't know how you can have a friend like that which clearly has convicted you of terrible crimes already and thus feels the need to restrict your basic civil rights on her delusion. I would be pretty Pissed at a "friend" which basically says I'm a murder just waiting to strike and that I'm a danger to everyone else. That was her argument. She like all anti gunners has convicted you without due process as justification to limit even more of your basic civil rights. These people aren't nice people. They aren't civilized either. Collin: I have to tell you, I take great pleasure in listening to your videos. Clearly, your are well versed, educated and well read. At times I question my rights and if there is truly a need to own an AR15 or comparable weapon. I usually question these rights when something tragic happens. Candidly, emotions can overwhelm logic. Though tragic and emotional, we must keep a level mindset when something bad happens, complements of a dishonest citizen. The acts by criminals do not speak for honest citizens. You are right... we are constitutionally guaranteed the right to own weapons. Our forefathers had a vision that we not only had the right to protect ourselves from private individuals but also from an oppressive government. Thomas Jefferson, spoke often of the private citizen's duty to ensure that government does not become too oppressive. That is not to say that our government is oppressive at this point in time, but it is a good "checks and balance" system which, via our Constitution, keeps everybody (including the government) honest. Please also keep in mind that the time the Constitution was drafted, the AR15 of its time was a flintlock rifle. At that time, our forefathers did not restrict our rights to own the most advance type of weapon when they wrote the Constitution. More importantly, they knew that each day they lived in the Colonies, they constantly saw advancements in technology. Therefore, they knew at the time they signed the Constitution, they realized and expected that there would be advances in the manufacture of all products, including guns. Again, they never placed any restrictions in the Constitution relative to gun ownership. Clearly, the constitution speaks to the rights of gun ownership; but it does not guarantee other rights which the general public takes for granted, such as car ownership. Cars clearly and exponentially kill more people than guns do. If you don't like guns, don't own one. I respect another's right to decide not to own a gun. I respect another's right not to have to explain to me why that individual does not want to own a gun (the right to privacy...something else we are guaranteed thru our laws). But another individual has no right to restrict my rights relative to gun ownership. We can have an open forum/discussion (free speech) if we all choose to freely participate in such discussion. However, the fact that a person chooses to own or not own a gun can stay a private matter with the person who makes that decision. That person does not have to explain to any other person why they don't own a gun, own a gun, own many guns, own large capacity magazines, many bullets, etc. Finally, the last matter which is frustrating, is the argument that all civilized nations such as England, Australia, etc. have restrictions on gun ownership. With such restrictions, nations such as England and Australia have far less killings than do the United States. Again, nowhere in any of those nations' laws are there legal guarantees of gun ownership as it exists in our Constitution. Secondly, if all of the arguments are true which are made as to banning gun ownership? Why are there flocks of individuals who want to come to the United States as compared to Europe and the balance of the world? The reason being is that as compared to any other nation, the United States, the U.S. Constitution and U.S. Laws are the best system out there where upwards mobility can exist. I understand that China probably has less gun rights afforded to its citizens, but the real question should be: What rights are also taken away by living in a Communist society? Should we look back to the "Tienanmen Square" incident which just happened a couple of decades ago? Have we forgotten what an oppressive government can do? Thomas Jefferson and the other Forefathers didn't live thru the "Tienanmen Square" incident but they had the foresight to expect such behavior. Robert Akouri

Our rights are not "constitutional" they're natural or inalienable; they're constitutionally reinforced. The constitution is suppose to restrict what the government can do not the citizens.
@waynocook538 жыл бұрын
The Constituion is suppose to restrict what government can do. It only works if government respects the agreement. Look at the government. Not just the present admin. Thirteen agencies now have standing SWAT teams. I'd call them 'armies', as they are full time militarized agents. The average size is 20,000 boot camp trained troops in tactical warfare, equipped with 2.4 billion rounds of ammo, and the latest in automatic weapons. Those armies aren't pointed toward ememies of the nation, they are pointed inward at us. That does not sound like respect of the Constitution. There is no need for the Post Office to have ANY SWAT army, no need for the EPA to have 20000 men and automatic weapons, no need for the IRS to pull up next to your home or business with APC's and miniguns...but each has happened, and it started long ago. What's our country's problem? We keep electing people to congress who lie to us. And that's the main reason we got pissed off and elected Trump. He ain't perfect and he's got a ton of evil to unravel, but by god, we better pull together whill congress is scared and do some repair! C Warren...great comment about our rights!

"There are some days when I wish I didn’t see the things I saw at Sandy Hook Firehouse on December 14, 2012. I walked away from that day pledging that I would do everything within my power to fight the scourge of gun violence, in our schools and in our cities, that has plagued America for far too long. Over the first months of my term in the Senate, I helped lead the fight for strong, anti-gun violence legislation. Though our bill failed due to a Republican-led filibuster, I continue to believe that the American people, who so strongly support mandatory criminal background checks, stricter limits on high-capacity magazines and military-style assault weapons, will have their voice heard in Congress soon. And as the parents of slain sons and daughters in Hartford, and New Haven, and Bridgeport have reminded me - it’s not just about the guns. There is a sense of hopelessness in our cities that allows young men to take life for granted, and an inability to understand how disputes can be resolved without violence. Combine those failings with a mental health system that leaves too many who badly need help outside treatment, and it’s no wonder we haven’t been able to make a substantial dent in gun violence." Thats my senator for you. He is the reason are state doesn't have sporting rifles anymore. 30 round magazines are off limits for us too. I need more republicans in my state...

I need an AR-15 as much as Rosa Parks needed to sit at the front of the bus. You don't need a reason to exercise a right.

I think keeping an invasive government in check needs to be mentioned more. Secondly, the French resistance did not have appropriate arms until I think '43 (could be wrong). This was because of a small amount existing in the civilian populous before the war (the cause I'm not going to assume on) and Germany's gun confiscations after the defeat. And, to mention, military firearms were not permitted in the Vichy before the eventual takeover. When the resistance did get guns it was from the SOE in England dropped from the air. Guerrilla warfare readiness is essential to the internal defense of any nation. Handguns and hunting files cannot do this.

Laws are necessary, but so is the right to defend yourself and your country. If we were to ever be invaded, I don't want to be killed like cattle. May The Most High has mercy and protect us.

If they still push the subject of justifying why you "need" a rifle, give them the reason the Founding Fathers added the 2nd Amendment; so that the people may have a chance to overthrow a tyrannical state. This ensures every right that we as U.S. citizens get to enjoy. There's no further explanation needed.

The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress. - Frederick Douglass After Bruen, we can only believe the metal in our swords will continue to be tested, but the sharpness of our blades should remain.

He said," Run and gun in the real world." I'm still waiting for him to show me that. I carried the SAW and the M60E3(USMC 88-93) both are heavy as hell and if no one is shooting at me I would rather have a sharp stick than any rifle, sharp sticks weigh less. I liked the lighter weight of ammo for the SAW but the M60E3 tore stuff up! Like walls, light armored vehicles, trees, brush, oh and people.

+Jack St john if money's tight, you should consider building one. It's not terribly difficult if you're willing to put in the effort, you'll save some cash, and you'll be more familiar with the rifle you'll be using. It's a win all around. You can find plenty of information online and here on KZbin.

+Jack St john and also, you can form the rifle to fit you instead of buying a complete one and stripping and replacing parts.
