True story - I played rainbow 6 for 2 years with my clan. One day one of the clan members said "I am Goldie" we all said yer right. He invited us to London. It was him we watched him DJ and then spent the night hanging out with him. I played ranbow 6 with him for 2 year and met him he was very kind and just a nice guy -- If Goldie see this it B0re peace brother.

Watching this in 2021 is so sad, the entire ethos of "the club" has been lost, the youth of today don't know what they missed, the gentrification of music, fashion, aspiration and soul has completely destroyed the inspirational vibe of being unique and fighting against the normality of forced "adulthood". Now it's about looking good in a trendy wine bar with a £5,000 outfit, back then it was about losing yourself in another world, not caring about anybody or anything other than the music, the friendships, and the absolute captivation of good production & Dj'ing. I honestly feel truly sorry for kid's growing up today, they will never ever experience the dark sweaty energy of the underground, there will only ever be a cheap plastic imitation pushed by corporations, I still go to festivals, raves, big clubs etc, but nothing has the same vibe and energy as when thing's where less controlled and sterile.

eloquently stated my friend. i wouldnt speak in such absolutes tho, i think some of the juke/footwork scene in chicago managed to take it there again. and the realness is always quietly waiting for everyone around to wake up to it. so all is not lost as much as it feels that way to people like us, a 90's junglist and underground rave kid myself, regardless of how hopeless it feels at times.

Timeless and Inner city life were a lifetime ago when musical tastes were much different. It was eye opening.. it was ground breaking but times are different.. thats why none of his other records have done anything close to that... it was a snapshot.. it was his moment in time. Thats what makes it so special.. if every tune and album of his was a zinger, inner city life wouldnt be half as special as it is..

Fuck me. I've watched all the British Master series from their beginning of it on youtube, and let me say this. First of all John fucking Dorian is the greatest musical interviewer ever - closely after Nardwar (wash my mouth I'm half english so..) Oasis is one of my favourite bands ever, Zepplin, The Fall, Pistols, T Rex, Dizzee, Smiths, The Verve, Manic Streets, TRICKY - no disrespect to anyone missed, particularly birds. This interview is absolute gold for the 90's kid bent on good or bad gear in a dark room (puns not intended). I'm from New Zealand by birth and our Dub, DnB, jungle, garage listening is pretty close to heart in scenes for honesty and a good time. Goldie is everything you want of the best era of and he's given it all on this one. Up Metalheadz, long may we dub to the beat of legends like this don, and to all the Isles bless our ears with. X

well said, anyone who knows the history knows that Goldie has always had an 'engineer' doing everything for him
@Barney-ii1no7 жыл бұрын
Yep, I have noticed that Goldie seems to not mention that fact in any interview I have seen, Most people think he produce's everything himself
@mrjames72467 жыл бұрын
Can't produce or Dj in my opinion. Been a jungle / DNB fan since the mid 90's and he's always been shocking on the decks. Your also spot on about the fact he never gives any of his engineers credit. Main reason why he has a new one for every album. There's Rob Playford, Heist and now the Ulterior Motive guys. Mans a leech that uses his name to take the credit for other peoples hard work
@grizcuz7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, Playford is the only person behind Timeless who you could call a genuine genius. AFAIK, put Goldie in a studio with every bit of kit needed to make an LP and he wouldn't know where to start.He may make suggestions and have 'ideas', but turning those ideas into something musical will always be the most difficult part of writing/composing music.
@ciaacho17 жыл бұрын
it's pathetic how many people upvote this crap comment! you're totally oblivious to the fact that his compositions is what's most important in his work. he imagines, composes all of his tunes from start to finish. Are you saying Beethoven was a leech as well? I mean fuck, he still uses orchestras to play pieces he wrote! without giving them credit! Go ahead and watch a video of G and Heist in the studio.

I'd like to just add something to the debate down there about Goldies role in the music vs the producer, whoever it is, but i'm going to take Rob Playford as the example and Timeless as the record. Goldie could not have made Timeless himself but neither could Rob. One had the studio expertise, one had the ideas to use the technology to create something new. Without George Martin, The Beatles records would not have been even interesting, judging by their demos. Without The Beatles, George Martin would have been still making comedy records with Peter Sellers. Without Playford, Goldie would have been just another fast talker with 'ideas' on the rave scene, vice versa, Playford would be just another studio nerd, making obscure rave records, brilliant as they were. And it all gets settled behind the scenes, on the publishing contract.
