It was a bad decision by Gust to completely change the game mechanics for the sequel instead of improving them when there was already a solid foundation. The first Fairy Tail had some potential but it was restricted by its low budget.

Fairy Tail story only makes sense as a Musou game during the Alvarez Empire arc which only 1 arc. It is better as an action RPG game.

I'll be honest, the 1st game looks waaaaay better in terms of combat. I mean seriously, wtf is this? The 1st game was my fav anime game and I thought this would be an upgrade, but I was clearly wrong. It's almost like the went in reverse instead of moving forward with the combat.

@@EndoXain the 1st game is just called fairy tail, and it's on ps4 and steam. If you have ps5 you can still buy it, but it'll be ps4 version. I don't know if it's on xbox.

@@RaifSeverence I strongly disagree with what you just said, but that's ok lol maybe it'll grow on me, but from what im seeing, this combat seems a bit boring. Only a few moves can be used. You can't guve commands to the other ppl on the team. It's literally no strategy element from what im seeing. It's just mash circle and triangle. Your teammate is going to die, but guess what? You can command them to use heal or an item. It's not food.

What is the combat? It doesn’t look turn based like the first one, but I don’t see characters freely moving around like an action RPG. I really enjoyed the first game though so would I enjoy this one?

It looks to be similar to Ryza's where you mash attack to build up meter to use special skills. I do wish they kept a turn based system as well.

It’s a lot different from the first one in terms of mission structure. Here, you don’t accept missions from a board. There’s other differences but the writing is pretty on par with the first.

It’s worth noting that there will be an original storyline after you beat the Alverz Arc. Not sure how significant it will be.

Well I hope it does well enough. We don't get nearly enough games about anime series that aren't either arena fighters or musou games. This isn't a bad arc to focus on for a game and it honestly looks good. At least it seems like they put a lot of work into it. I'm definitely enjoying the heck out of Metaphor, but will hopefully get into playing this. Though may end up being early next year.

The story in the first game seemed to take for granted that you had seen the anime. It was difficult to follow. The anime is restricted in my territory and not available by any legitimate means so I haven’t seen it. I’m guessing it’s the same here. It’s a shame since I love the design of the characters. I wasn’t planning on getting this game but then one look at Lucy I’m about ready to buckle.

Instead of making a musou (with a different studio) or build on top of the nice base of the original game, they decided to go for some wishy-washy gameplay that is neither. People wanting an action game/musou will be dissapointed and out of the RPG fans some will like this more than original and some will like it less. Personally I dont like what I see: you control one character at a time, you can swap but while you are on that char others do what they want, instead of having a pool of mana that you manage you start without and have to spam basic attack to build mana, you have only basic + 2 specials available (I assume it will go to 3 later) which you can change going into a menu... all I see is a turn-based RPG with extra steps, so people that dislike those get fooled into thinking this is different when is not XD

I loved Fairy tail but I couldn't get into the first game. The game felt lifeless and too repetitive, then the difficulty switch later was a bit much.

Can you seriously not move your character in combat? They advertised it as an action game but it looks like the bare minimum in terms of combat. This war arc was the perfect time for them to do a more fast paced combo oriented system like a dynasty warrior game

NO! Bad Azario! This looks like the first game. Markers telling you where you go but first the title and everything loads and u cant move your character or camera. The combat looks super easy too.

Yeah, didn't have high expectations for this game anyway. Not a fan of cheap, overpriced anime RPGs like this. Especially when the studio does the bare minimum like not hiring the English VAs. And not much of Hiro Mashima with how he's been cash-riding the Fairy Tail train for too long. Won't forgive him for what he did to Edens Zero. Overall, another half-hearted attempt to exploit another anime IP. No buy.

I loved the first game, but I hate hate HAAATE that they still refuse to dub the sequel. Japanese simply just isn't good enough for me. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely language when spoken by real-life people, but within gaming I see it as a "second-rate-citizen"-language, that developers only content with if they are too broke to afford English voices.
