I never played the first one so the fatigue of reused enemies/bosses won't be an issue. Great review. Can't wait to get my hands in it

Yeah, especially for no apparent reason. If I do happen to finish a really long game in this day and age, I necromancer go back to it

That sounds like a good length for a SHMUP, many games are too long today so it´s welcome with a more reasonable length so that you can also learn much of the layouts and enemies.
