@@realjerrymerry Nope. I actually prefer this method better cuz for whatever reason you can't turn on/off the bands in TBC... only click-and-hold... like wtf? Why?? I just like the gain margins they show you. But yeah, definitely not free. Definitely not worth buying it just to buy it alone. Way better if you can find it in a pack instead.

TB Pro Audio has a monitoring plugin called, ISOL8 and you can mute and solo 5 different bands with adjustable crossovers. M/S as well. And it's free. A great utility.

@@RikiAbi It's a really handy utility. The only thing it doesn't have that I wish it did (last I checked), was the ability to swap L/R channels. I have high-end hearing loss in one ear and need to swap channels while mixing. I use bx_solo for that. Edit: I stand corrected... they did add a L/R swap to ISOL8, so I will have to thank them for adding my suggestion..

I also use that trick but with the multi band comp found in Reaper. I solo the bands and have a listen to the "bleed" of the instruments. That way I can check volume/energy and frequencies of the instruments and know if I need to clean something, say a synth that should not have any lows, etc.

I mean, you can really just do this visually using the analyzer while listening to the whole mix. After all, it's only in the context of the whole frequency spectrum that you can know which area needs to be increased or decreased. Soloing different bands is just a way of confirming what you already know.

Not that useful if you're not experienced enough and there's nothing wrong with using tools to aid you achieving industry requirements. Put this bullshit 'purist' mentality aside and realize that even the most prolific/successful musicians/producers use samples, presets and whatnot. Shit, nowadays we put mediocre bozos on a pedestal, passing them as the next Mozart, while if you were to shut down their auto-tune mid performance they'd sound like a gay porn actor shooting a scene.

Never "see", always feel or hear. The stuff you can see depends on major changes, the tone of the song is not visible in an eq. If you can't make good decisions yet, try it out on different sounds and songs and compare, ist just training

I cant be spending hundrets and hundrets on damn sounds too. And imagine spending so much on this and then not making it far. Plus alot of great producers started of with stock plugins and became famous, so its not always pay to win, therefor its so Un-necesarry to pay all your hardworking money on your hobby if you aint makin it out the hood anyway.
