I'm tempted by this. There aren't many budget phones with 3 years of updates outside of Nokia, but I'm writing this on a Nokia 8 with lots of bugs that were never fixed despite being common, so I'm wary of Nokia now. Thank you for the video! I'm getting to the point where I cannot avoid getting a new phone. My poor old Samsung Galaxy S4 is just not able to open and run newer websites and apps because it cannot receive OS updates. As I've researched and researched and researched all the phone options right now, I've been extremely disappointed in the way that smartphones have gone away from very functional and useful designs I've come to love in my old phone. My main issues involve the screen turning on with a touch (I still can't find one that I can turn that feature off, even without it my current phone does strange things in my purse or pocket), the lack of a physical home button (very useful as an override when the screen might lock up in a game that has bugs), the general trend towards gesture navigation (if I wanted that I'd buy an iPhone, but I hate them), and the lack of a notification indicator light. Thankfully, it seems that all Android 10 devices allow you to choose the three button navigation system instead of gesture if you prefer. However, only Nokia is offering the notification light and only on some models. I was really thinking of the 7.2, but then learned of the new 5.4. But after watching your comparison between the 7.2 and the 5.3, then this video which shows that the all important notification light is gone in 5.4, I believe I'll probably invest in the 5.3. It seems to have the desired notification light, three button navigation available, a decent camera with flash and autofocus, hopefully the flash can be converted into a flashlight mode, it can take a sim card and an SD card, and I believe it even has an earphone jack. Before I buy Nokia, I've really wanted to find one to physically look at, but no one I know has a Nokia phone and the stores don't have Nokia display models locally (small city). So your videos have really helped. I found your videos very honest and easy to understand. The other videos and articles I've searched have really made it hard to decide as they only seem interested in specs and not everyday usability. They also wouldn't tell me about the notification light being present or not. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

I like how durable actually these phones are. I have dropped them so many times and they look like brand new still. Also the camera quality is pretty good (in my opinion) I use them for games too and everything runs perfectly.

Thank God I found a Nokia-focus channel. Long story short; I quit using social media (except KZbin & Reddit) for 3 years now and I just need a long lasting clean software experience phone and it seems like Nokia is the way to go! Finally, the video arrived🙂👍 More than the camera, hole punch and the glossy back design what's so good and improved when compared to Nokia 5.3 that they needed to release this phone in a hurry? Infact there's nothing, instead they could have concentrated more on 6 and 7 series of phones with better specs and improvement in the camera post processing algorithms. No more excuse of a new startup company anymore, they really need to shine. TBH, I am happy with my Nokia 5.3 and will upgrade only to a 7 series phone, when it comes out.

I have got the Nokia 5.3 and I play every days at "Raid : Shadow legends". The game is fluent in intermediate and 60 FPS, also it's fluent in high graphics. I recommand it for only 200 € !

nice review , clean and direct just as it should be . question dude which one do you preffer over and why , poco x3 or the 5.4 ? to be honest xiaomi in my opinion doesn't offer top notch devices in fact they are almost the same in every aspect aside for chipset or something but they really pack some power in their devices while keep it "affordable" phones nowadays are barely diferent from each other rather than cam or ram or screen size , so I was thinking in not spending too much but having something nice that can hold for long and I was thinking either the x3 or 5.4 or taking an "old" but still amazing p30

Nps. You can adjust the colors (boosted saturation, standard, or adaptive) and you can also change the white balance of the display

For day to day tasks and watching videos you won't notice a difference between 2.4 and 5Ghz. For downloads the difference is notable but only on large files. I wouldn't buy or not buy a phone based on this metric alone unless you're constantly downloading large files.

I would recommend waiting if you can for the new 6 and 7. They will be much more future proof than the 5.4. An inconvenient hard reset might give more life to your 6.1

I feel there is some setting I'm overlooking in 5.4; the picture results aren't as good as I expected - they look pixelated somewhat, given its 49 mp main camera. My previous 6.1 had far better results with its 16 mp main camera. I tired Gcam but only some improvement. Maybe an update will fix it?

I bought Nokia 5.3 last month. And now we see it's successor the 5.4 But I do not regret that I didn't wait for some time for the successor. Although the camera is improved, but no big leap has been taken by Nokia this time. The build quality, processor, screen size, notification light 😀 are in some way much better than 5.4 I won't recommend anyone to get 5.4 over 5.3 Nokia should provide the 6 or 7 series with better specs and hardware instead and come to the market with great devices

Great honest review 👍 Camera is very good for photos (and will likely get even better soon with Gcam apk). Video recording is not good from what I've seen on other KZbin videos, focusing is terrible and details are low and even colours looks dull. But it's a good phone overall. Let downs are: 1) video quality. 2) WiFi only 802.11 b/g/n (missing ac). 3) Bluetooth 4.2 (not the much better 5.0).

Ok I bought a Nokia 5.4, super nice phone, clear audio and don't let the HD+ (720) screen be a deciding factor, you can't tell the difference, my older phone was a FHD (1080) 6" screen, Nokia 6.4" screen, I can't see any difference in resolution. It really seems HD+ in this screen makes no difference, just has lots of plus points, cheaper, faster, good brightness, better battery life, better performance . The screen is a bonus, it looks really nice!

I'm still wondering why they chose to release this, it's barely an upgrade. Android One was a refreshing clean take in 2016 but it's getting really stale now that competition have stepped up their software game. The company overall doesn't seem to have much focus aside from releasing forgettable Nokia-branded products.

I don't think people should see this as an upgrade of the 5.3. This phone is more of a 5.3 v2. I think a lot of people misinterpret what Nokia's phones are meant to be and I'm not surprised considering Nokia hasn't really bothered talking more about the phone in a way where customers understand for what audience this product is made for.

Yeah i got the 5.3 but with the 3gb RAM onluy option here. and i feel it slows down fast when have a handfull of aps running. I think the sd662 with 4gb would work much better. and it is also 5mm smaller in height so i might sell the nokia 5.3 for 80Euro and upgrade to this, Or the Poco M3 with 6000mah batt.

And i do not like Huawei at all. Y9s looks worse than my Nokia 5.3 with android 9. and EMUI. My nokia 5.3 will get android 11, and 12, i do not think the y9s get 11 even.

The only problem, that can fix it, it's the resolution of the display, I prefer full hd + instead hd+ and also the camera, missed the carl zeiss lens, this last problem take out the best experience like the Nokia 7.2 or 8.3

I tried testing out downloading a 1Gb file on my 8.3 (5Ghz wifi) and 5.4 (2.4Ghz). The 8.3 did it in 1 minute 37 seconds. The 5.4 did it in 2 minutes 37 seconds. So when downloading large files, you will notice a difference. However for watching youtube, daily tasks, twitter, instagram, etc you won't notice much of a difference.

Good question. I use my phone mainly with the silicon case provided in the box. Even when using hotspot for a few hours the phone stays quite cool. When playing games you will notice a slight increase in temperature. I would say overall heat management is quite good. Different Nokia's have different heat management. Depends on the phone.

The 5.3 is still not optimized after 1-2 max 3 days starts to really lag and i have to restart it to fix it and after 2-3 days same thing, i hope they fix it cuz i dont want to restart my new phone 2-3 times in a week just cuz its not optimized

It's not easy because the 5.3 is on sale compared to the more expensive 5.4. if they were priced similarly I would choose the 5.4 because of camera, battery life and performance.

So I've been using my Nokia 7.2 for 1 ½ years but now I've ordered the Nokia 5.4. The slow performance bothered me, so I switch because both smartphones are very similar. I hope that at least the camera performs as well as the Nokia 7.2.

I have had this option disabled for my usage so can't give you an accurate answer yet. I found this a bit unreliable on other Nokia devices though and since you can swipe down from anywhere on the home screen to access notifications I disable that gesture from the fingerprint scanner.

It always maxes out at the displays resolution. Since the resolution is slightly higher than 720p, it won't show more than 720p

that's not the case for iPhones they can watch KZbin at 1080p using iphone 7/xr... and starting from ios 14 iphones can play video in 4k, the iphone render the video at 4k then downscale it to the screen resolution

The advantage of this is so miniscule on a small phone displays you'd need superhero eyes to see. You're still seeing the video at the maximum displays resolution.
