This is fantastic. Cleared up a few things about the Nokia platform that were a little confusing to me. Thanks for making this. If only you could teach everyone else how to make thorough, concise, and easily digestible networking videos. Very well done. Now if only I could figure out how to get a simple GRE tunnel working between a 7750 and Cisco ASR without MPLS.

Thanks, Tyson! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. To get a GRE tunnel operational, you don't need anything more than an LSP between your PEs. IIRC, my epipe video covers GRE. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hello Thomas, thanks for the videos. Can you point me to a material i can use for the Nokia Certifications. I really appreciated how you were able to breakdown the syntax for each service provisioning.

hi, 1.Can u explain me how normal interface (like toN1) differs from IES interface (we can also have an ospf adjacency between R1 and N1's normal interface) 2.what is the main difference between these two? 3.Can we use IES interface as a mgmt interface? 4.what is the main purpose of IES interface?

Good morning, Rohan. Thanks for the questions! An IES interface is very similar to a logical router interface. However, an IES interface will have a SAP bound to it so that it's capable of QoS, accounting, and billing. Yes, an IES interface can be used to manage devices, but the management will be in-band; so if any parts of the IES service goes down, your management will go down with it. The main purpose of an IES interface is to provide a subscriber with access to a Service Provider's internal routes. The subscriber's router (CE) peers with the Service Provider (PE) via an IES interface using a link state (or static, or distance vector) routing protocol, and is provided with Direct Internet Access (DIA) using the local Service Provider as a transit. I personally think IES interfaces are best utilized at IXPs and Transit Peeriings interconnecting Service Provider ASes. Typically those contacts are written up according to the amount of traffic that flows over a link or the amount of bandwidth utilized by that link... an IES interface can provide very useful counters for tracking that type of information. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, and thanks for watching!
