Nokta Makro Legend: YOU ARE MISSING GOLD!

This was a big takeaway from testing 600-1000 objects on the Nokta Makro Legend. If you roll with the defaults you will miss some gold. Numbers 1-11 are notched out when you turn on the detector. I would have missed some fat gold if I hadnt used all metal mode.

I live in the Los Padres national forest, when I receive my legend I’ll be using it 60% in the mountains here, 20% at beach, and 20% in the desert. I’ll probably dig everything 😂

I started detecting at age 12 in 1975 ...machine i had was an all metal simple machine - a step up from a Radio shack one. I hunted with all metal machines (no discrimination ) pretty much until I bought my Whites XLT in 1991 When I got into water hunting for the most part in 1991 - I bought a Whites PI - all metal machine I now use a Fisher CZ21S and even though it has discrim. - I hunt in all metal and try and dig it all I cant even count the amount of gold Ive found over the yrs where hunters using discrim. - usually cranking their discrimination. especially white gold. When i was around 18 yrs old i went to a drained pond that was hammered by tons of guys...place looked like a battle ground and as i walked onto the beach bunch of guys were leaving and laughed "good luck...dont think youre gonna find much" I startred finding pulltabs all over that they had missed due to discrim. Long story short - at end of day I had 3 white gold rings - like a dozen nickels and 50 pulltabs ...nuff said

When I got mine, I raised the iron volume and moved 11 to 10 for iron I'd. I still dig the iron sometimes.

Well then. Kinda explains why I haven't found any gold! I average 2 gold rings a month and other gold items. Since using the Legend I have found 0 gold! I've found over 30 rings, tungsten, silver, copper, titanium. I've found necklaces and bracelets. But no gold. I even have my setting notched out up to 9. Still......no gold. Even in the user forums and media pages you don't see hardly any gold found with the Legend. I'm ready to sell this machine. Thanks for the great vids. Keep up the great work.

I don't use all metal EVER on any the machines Ive used. Always discriminate the iron out and always find gold. All metal shouldn't be needed if the machines discrimination is correct.

Finding gold isn't like going to work and getting a regular paycheque. If you don't stumble over it you won't find it lol. It's not meant to happen regularly, in fact the more you hunt your are the less and less you'll find over time as you clean it out. That being said, the small gold will ring in that 10 and 11 range, small rings will usually be in the foil range, mid sized rings and pendants will be in the pull tab range and the honkers will usually be in the low bottle cap range. That's just average.......as with all things metal detecting that's a guide, not a rule.

@@MrBottlecapBill I literally find 2 gold rings a month or more. No less. And have consistently for the last 2 years. I hunt every day being retired. That's just rings. I find gold chains and necklaces along with my average of 2 gold rings monthly. I haven't found a gold piece since the day I started using the Legend. Not even a gf piece. Remember.... I hunt 7 days a week. 3-5 hours a hunt.

I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. In saying that this video is a little misleading. What I mean is that anyone who has detected awhile knows if looking for gold, that you need to dig all numbers that low. After legend came out, most know to set tone break at 8 if that is what you are looking for. Even on the nox, although may register low in non ferrous end, you wouldn’t dig it unless you were looking for gold anyway. Same as setting tone break in legend. Most also know, at the beach, dig most everything. I have both no 600 and legend. I was looking specifically for a gold ear ring one time, and it wouldn’t even pick it up in the nox when I was trying to get vdi off of ear ring that wasn’t missing. I think they all have potential of missing gold, and I think that is where learning to set each particular machine up for what you are looking for comes into play. Thanks Merrill. Hopefully Nokta Makro sees,this video. There will be software updates to compensate for many issues. I do not fault Nokta Makro unless it chooses not to make software changes. It is a new detector and it needs to have the bugs worked out.

Can't wait for your ID bible...Basically use your tone breaks and tone volume as a way to hear or not hear your targets. That way you can silence your unwanted targets with the tone volume and hunt in all metals or ground mode. Good luck with your research for the ID bible. Appreciate you Merrill

I hunt it in all metal mode unless I'm in a super trashy iron site.. Then I use Ground. Gold is a low conductor. anytime you are cutting out "all iron" you will miss gold if it's there (especially 18k or higher). I like all 60 tones on the Legend with the Iron under a 5 VID at a 1 volume, and from 6-10 at 2.. other than that I use my ear instead of the ID numbers.

For SAME PRICE go Nox. You do get better headphones, better shaft and battery life with the Legend and some neat features. But I have never found more with a detector than with a Nox. If the price was 635 vs 999 I would say go Legend. Check out the full reviews on iratemetaldetectors.com

I'm two years into the metal detecting hobby. I have an Equinox 800, Garrett Ace Apex, and recently sold my Nokta Simplex+. Is not that I didnt like the Simplex, just neede to free up funds for another purchase. Which brings me to the question I have for you, I'm considering a Nokta Legend. Originally I wanted the Equinox 900, but after watching your videos I think staying with the 800 is OK. So, next is line is the legend. So much value for the money. I know Noktas can be quirky but I worked through that with the Simplex. What do you think? Is my money better spent on Legend or 900? I would obviously go with the latest legend with 12x9 coil as I do alot of beach hunting.

I have to laugh, in Europe it is exclusively searched in AM. Because we have older hidtoria, and finds from iron. Beautiful things. And in addition, AM, and the sound of iron, helps determine what kind of target it is. I like idiots who turn on discrimination or select in "Notch", I always find many nice things after them.

with a small coil it should be golden. It has 40 kHz which is twice higher than the Gold Bug Pro designed to pick tiny 0.2g nuggets. I'm startng to think that it's the best do-all machine for the price

Anywhere people might want to take their bling off for fear of damage(climbing, pushing kids on swings), or where they may lose it accidently due to physical activity(swimming, throwing balls, walking dogs with leashes) or just take it off because they're hot and uncomfortable(watching their kids play soccer on a hot summer day). If you're in a winter climate, anywhere they may be taking off their gloves or scarfs. Put yourself in the position of the people in those spots, go where they go and clean it out.

Ouch! Does it notch out that gold range at the beach settings too? That would really get the beach hunters raving. It is bad enough that gold rings ring up in the pull tab range on the NOX. I guess your "dig everything" philosophy will be needed with every machine we have to use under many circumstances! I look forward to seeing your TID charts!

Merrill, you didn't show that in custom discrimination mode, you only have to accept the 11th notch position to accept the gold, right?

Yes you can definitely customize that out. I also read here that this is no longer notched out as a default in 1.07 but I haven’t verified it yet.

I would do at least 10 to be safe. The machine is usually still going to notch out most nails down to about 7ish other than those pesky square nails that ring in like silver obviously.
