Certified Firearms instructor in Tennessee, most of my students the last few years have been black folks fresh out the cities trying to get used to the culture in rural areas, and so many of them understanding why everyone carries out in the fields and the warehouses. Had this little lady, I shit you not coach, she couldn't have ridden the rides at a down market carnival. Real little woman. She was talking about how gun were nothing more than tools of oppression. I told her to let me teach her this history of both the US and of Firearms, and she actually listened. She became my best student that month, outshooting many of my instructors and damn near keeping up with me. She now advocates for people to learn personal defense, both martially and with weapons. She's after me to join her Taekwondo group. Guns aren't evil. I've seen many types of people, black, white, brown and yellow, that bond over a love of firearms. Never once seen someone get bent outta shape cause someone else looked different at the range. We all people. Nothing else matters.

Something that doesn't get talked a lot in regards to the 2A and that is *sovereignty.* From chatGPT before it got extremely biased: When the Founding Fathers spoke of "the people could assert their sovereignty," they referred to the idea that the ultimate source of political authority and power in the new nation rested with the citizens. The concept of sovereignty in the context of the American Revolution and the creation of the United States was closely tied to the principles of popular sovereignty and self-governance. In the traditional European model of governance, power was concentrated in the hands of monarchs or ruling elites, who held authority by divine right or hereditary claims. However, the Founding Fathers rejected this notion and believed that political legitimacy came from the consent of the governed, not from any divine or inherited right. They embraced the idea of popular sovereignty, which asserted that the people, as a collective body, were the true source of political power. In other words, the government derived its legitimacy and authority from the will of the people it governed. The citizens, through their participation and representation in the democratic process, could shape the laws and institutions that governed their lives. This idea of sovereignty was deeply intertwined with the concept of individual rights and liberties, as the Founding Fathers sought to create a system that protected the rights of individuals while promoting the common good. The Second Amendment, as part of the Bill of Rights, was seen as a critical safeguard for maintaining the people's sovereignty. It recognized the right of the people to keep and bear arms, which was instrumental in empowering them to protect themselves, their families, and their communities. The ability of the people to be armed was not just about self-defense against criminals or foreign invaders but also about preserving the citizens' ability to resist any potential future government that might infringe upon their liberties. The Founding Fathers saw the armed citizenry as a check on potential abuses of power by the government, ensuring that the government would always be accountable to the people it governed. By having the means to defend themselves and their rights, the people could actively participate in shaping the course of the nation, thereby asserting their sovereignty in the political landscape. In conclusion, the notion of "the people could assert their sovereignty" meant that the power and authority of the government emanated from the consent of the governed. It emphasized the people's role as the ultimate decision-makers and highlighted their right to bear arms as a means to protect their liberties and participate actively in the governance of the new nation.

Born and raised in the South....my Dad had us shooting guns before we could hardly walk. He had a closet full of guns, not locked up, all loaded, but we never touched them because of the impending ass whooping if we did. A gun is a tool. Set it out on a table and if no one touches it, it will rust. Use it for food or defending yourself it is a thing of good...use it in a foolish way, then it can be a thing of evil...but the same could be said about cars, knives, baseball bats...you name it. It's not the gun that is good or evil, it's the human using it.

@@susannemac2800 A social phenomenon--that's such a good way of describing it. It's electrifying to witness. I think one of the reasons so many of us feel chills when listening to "American Flags" is because we feel the presence of the movement known as The Great Awakening. Later, when we try to explain this phenomenon to others who are not awake yet, we will not be able to describe adequately how it felt to witness what is happening now.

After rereading an account of the American Revolution and noting that the Constitution was considered a covenant with God, I believe it was only by the grace of God that America was born. The Continental Army was a rowdy band of farmers and preachers that by the accounts of our own military were undisciplined and untrained. We were fighting against the most powerful, disciplined and well-armed navy and military in the world. The British had 250-500 warships, we had 27. A good number of soldiers deserted in the beginning of the war. Washington had to convince the *ENTIRE ARMY* to stay on for another 3 months in December 1776, and initially none of the soldiers agreed to renew their contracts. The war came THAT close to it being over. A fog that oddly remained even after daybreak allowed the troops to cross the East River and escape capture. In December 1777, a division commander reported that *one half* of all troops were marching through the snow without shoes (and many shirtless}, hundreds leaving bloody footprints behind. Troops were starving at Valley Forge, where 2,000 of them died from disease and malnutrition. Prior to the Revolution, Washington was the only officer who survived a battle during which 2 horses were shot from under him and 4 musket ball holes were discovered in his jacket, yet his body was unharmed. He was considered "bulletproof." I believe James Madison was absolutely correct when he said, “It is impossible, for the man of pious reflection, not to perceive in it [the Constitutional Convention] a finger of that Almighty Hand, which has been so frequently and signally extended to our relief in the critical stages of the revolution.”

Fr, guns are for self defense, not to play around with. Your gun should only be used on someone if they are posing a direct threat to you or someone else. If someone runs up on you and you don’t want to fight then pulling is acceptable. Not everyone is about that fighting life man. One punch is enough to kill someone and that is not a risk a lot of people want to take, especially if they have kids. That being said you shouldn’t fire unless they continue to try and attack after you draw and give warning.

Fun story. Short form. I do heat and air. I carry. I was checking a persons system. And once I diagnosed it and started presenting it. Dude started getting agitated. And acting off. He took off towards his room so I started walking out the front door to my van. BOW! I seen the room flash. I ran to my van. BOW! Whole front yard flashed. I grabbed my firearm. Racked aimed and shot 3 times as I fell. Then rolled under my van. Called the police. Thankfully everyone is alive. I hit kid in his hip. And thank god even further that cameras were all over too. People are crazy. Carry. Carry smart. Carry right. I didn’t want a kid not to see his mom again. But I was gonna go home to my kids that night. Y’all stay safe and smart.
