My bother in-law lives in Dubai, and its a v. impressive city to visit, but neither my family or I would ever swap our life in KL for Dubai. KL is very relaxed, friendly, cost of living is good, and it has the most beautiful destinations to visit across SE Asia on your door step.

Definitely KL for me... more easy going, open culture, natural beauty, great food and less complex for day to day leaving. Also less status driven, friendly people and under-stated so no social pressure to stand-out. KL is surely a social-leveller. However Dubai is fascinating, very magical, better processes, more planned city. But it surely lacks the natural beauty and old world charm of KL. And more expensive. I love both the cities but KL is closer to my heart ❤

Malaysia is clean throughout the country full of beautiful mountains, beaches and rainforests. Dubai is just a city, same with Singapore. With everything online in todays world, Malaysia is more easygoing and can enjoy with family instead of thinking about your next expense and getting worked up.

I lived in Dubai for 5 years. Rent is expensive, you might not pay tax, but you get milked for anything else. It is luxurious, but only when you are in the aircon and out the dust. Having visited KL I would definately choose KL between the two. Weather is probably the biggest driving factor. As soon as you drive out of the shiny high rise city you are confronted by a total lack of greenery, everything is covered in dust and grey, drab and depressing.

Malaysia is a joyful place to live with the nicest people I've met in my travels. I was in Penang, the Pearl of the Orient and, while I loved my occasional jaunts to KL, I think relaxed Penang beats it for quality of life. Dubai for me is far too hot and somewhat unnecessarily rigid with all its rules. It is also ridiculously expensive. Between KL and Dubai, however, it's not even close - KL by a distance.

I lived in Kuala Lumpur and in the middle east (Qatar & Saudi Arabia). Well i guess i would admit Dubai is better place to be in only if you see yourself working for a couple of years. However, Malaysia would be better in a long term stay as it is a center of South East Asia where traveling and going for short gateaway for family time is possible.I mean come you certainly have more holidays in Malaysia compare to Dubai.I remember one time we had pretty much public holidays every week for the month.

I know religion is a taboo subject to many but these two places are predominantly Muslim, which goes to show that the west, especially Americans, have really nothing to fear from Muslims and the religion. It’s been said that Muslims in Malaysia, or a great number of them, show the true face of Islam ie tolerance, kindness, patience, being charitable and kind, a sort of live and let live mentality, certain corrupt people in power and authority aside. It’s not about rabid extremism; it’s always about the middle path and showing the way by example and deed, ie your character. By the way, good job!

@@pipspiper usually it’s the US that would enter a country, usually an Islamic one, like Afghanistan or Iraq et el, to overthrow its ‘dictator’ or ‘barbaric’ government. Would any other country do that to the US or another country for that matter? Would they send troops and bomb tracts of America just because they didn’t like Trump and his policies or any other president? Yes, unfortunately, 9-11 happened but that is not equal to a whole country sending their troops over to wreak devastation on a ‘troubled’ land so as to ‘free’ the people and give them democracy. Maybe now Russia is sadly taking a leaf out of the US’ book.

Malaysia (1) Malaysians are multi culture so people tolerate each other. (2) English is widely spoken in Malaysia so language is not a barrier. (3) KL is greener, as it is in a tropical country. You get a lot of rain but never get sand storm. Dubai (1) Dubai has more prestige and known as Middle East hub for business so the brand name is there. (2) Imported food from Europe like cheese are cheaper in Dubai than in Malaysia (3) Average income is higher in Dubai and so does the cost of living

Thank you for the great video Andrew. Andrew, but I hope you don't mind me raising this point and that is the current situation in Malaysia. Just a side note, I do very much enjoy Malaysia. But not the Malaysia today. Malaysia has been under a very strict lockdown for several months. The borders have been sealed for the past 1.5 years, only the residents can enter the country but they still have to go through the hotel quarantine. Unlike Thailand, I believe one cannot select the hotel which means - well, it's not that great. So "go where you are treated best" goes right out of the window when it comes to the hotel quarantine. But the mere fact that Malaysia remains shut, 1.5 years on and there is absolutely no light in the tunnel when it comes to reopening, it is extremely difficult to make any plans for Malaysia. Naturally, the covid restrictions are temporary (well, one never knows!) but the pace to move forward in Malaysia is utterly slow.

It's not just external borders which have all but closed - but also travel between the states, and even regions within states. Unfortunately, Malaysia is turning into a police state - because you need a letter from the police, if you want to travel. Other problems: a corrupt political class including the police, and an increase in tensions between the Malays and Chinese/Indians. Something that has always been there, but exacerbated by this pandemic. With all these lock downs the economy is also starting to fall apart. The tourist industry, for one, has been hit hard, with hotels closing down - many for good. And local family shops are forced to stay closed, but large chains are able to stay open. This has resulted in an increase of suicides as many people are starting to lose hope.

Kuala Lumpur has alive soul compared to Dubai. All organized and modern, apparently when you spending longer time there you will feel something is lost in Dubai. KL has a very good blend of all races around the world leading by Malay, Chinese and Indian, the mixes of Bumies races on Sarawak/Sabah. Also have arab, thai, Indonesia, Vietnam, European, US/Canada, and Korea Japan

I disagree based on the fact that foreigners can't live in Singapore without a work permit or owning a company that's worth over $150 million. It's not a viable hub unless you have a job there. Anyone can live in Dubai or KL indefinitely with the proper visas/permits. Singapore cannot be considered a viable hub unless a person has a job there.

I lived in the UAE capital city of Abu Dhabi for two years on a work contract. Liked it way better than Dubai, which is more about style over substance. They're only about 75 miles apart, but there's a huge difference. If you are looking to actually retire and don't care about hitting the hotel bars every night and paying $10 for a draft beer, Abu Dhabi is far classier and definitely worth a look.

can you please discuss middle/high school quality in terms of mathematics, stem, and mandarin? Please include some information about the school in your videos. Some of us have kids, and for many of us, this is the top priority when it comes to moving. We need to understand which would be the best school for kids to go to (For example, what's the best mathematics/STEM school in Malaysia, how does it rank relative to other countries, Ireland, Singapore?). Thank you.

I think Dubai has been a lot more successful in the way it has marketed itself to the international crowd. Like you say the sexy factor is very much in it's favor. Closer to home KL/Malaysia has to contend with being in the shadow of Bangkok/Singapore all the time let alone Dubai.

I would like another option, like for example the Labuan program, but have no idea how it works and how to apply to it. I would really appreciate the help, because I want to start with the paperwork asap. Thanks so much for you videos, they are gold.

As a malaysian, borneo has a different sets of immigration rules(autonomous). Peninsula mm2h has raised the min revenue to 45k ringgit per month for eligibility making many retirees unable to qualify. But sarawak is still low in the min requirement in revenue. The last i heard was rm 7k per month. According to the gov many chinese mainlanders abused the old mm2h program. Hence, rules were changed.

I’ve lived in Kuala Lumpur for almost a year. Dating scene is great there. Most westerners think that is it extremely hard to meet and date muslim Malay women. That is not the case. Also you’ve got plenty of Chinese and Indian women. Many nice mixed girls too as Malaysia is melting pot of cultures. Malaysia probably the only country in SE Asia (besides Singapore) where you can find immigrants from other SE Asian countries. If you are looking for 1 off hookup, Malaysia is probably is not for you. But if you are looking for casual few weeks/months dating or long term dating, it’s great.
