This is very interesting to watch as someone who grew up with two citizenships and lived around people with two or more citizenships. All members of my family have two passports (German and Brazilian) as we are descendent of those who emigrated before the war. It's very common amongst my friends as well. In São Paulo there are many immigrants whose children have two passports: I know people with Italian, Japanese, Austrian, American, etc citizenships. The all have at least some cultural connection to their second nationality; either they speak the language, have a typical family name or someone in the family was from that country. When traveling abroad its convenient for example to travel to the US or Canada on a European passport (no visa required) and at the same time nice to travel within South America with an ID only. Also, as Brazilians we can travel to Russia without a Visa, which no European passport allows for. It's a nice privilege to have and if you emigrate in order to pursue a new life somewhere else then it totally makes sense to get that country's citizenship in addition to your own, if possible. Otherwise I think it's weird when people acquire a second citizenship just for the sake of it or because it's easy.

Lisbon Moskovida district is one of the best places in Schengen countries to settle in and work , give birth to portugese children. Portugal cities have lots of empty apartments in its vault without any windows and doors. Vilamore, Faro, Portimao, Alvor are like Cyprus style places away from low income people, sparsely populated with wonderful people of Portugal. I had always walked or jogged never used public transport while in Faro, even from hotel to airport.

@The Tribal Funkster If your child is born there, s/he will be immediately citizen, and the parents after 1 year stay (!) Also, your child gets the privilege, that only after 2 years in Spain could get that citizenship as well. But the main things are, within 1.5 years the full family is dual citizen and as mentioned below we could have free access to 2 continents. Vacationing 1.5 years long in Brazil with family is still cheaper than spending $150k on Caribbean passports. (IMHO)

The experience of last 50 years or so seems to indicate birthright citizenship is not a good idea, in general. It was a noble thing in the past but in this day and age. Like so many utopias, its intent comes from a good place but in practice it just doesn't really work (speaking somewhat euphemistically here).

@@JanPBtest the number of tourists in the US giving birth is surprisingly small. there are about 7000 temporary foreign residents who gave birth in 2008 which includes even non-tourists like students and temporary workers who intend on living in US for an extended period of time (www.nytimes.com/2011/03/29/us/29babies.html). The total births in US in 2008 went into 4 million. So 7000 is a small fraction. Anyway... it makes sense that children of foreign residents (not tourists) get citizenship. Their parenrs and children would likely have ties to the country and children would have a bond to the country. I was born in Kuwait to parents on 'temporary' work visa (well... All visas are temporary). We lived in the country for 15+ years and grew to have ties to the country. However, it's near impossible for people to get naturalised . as a child I wished I got Kuwait nationality by birth because I didn't choose to live and have ties to Kuwait. My parents atleast choose to move to Kuwait where they knew citizenship was an impossible so they mentally prepared to not permanently settle there. I could not make that preparation. Hence, children of workers and students should get nationality
@RMatt2016
@RMatt2016 3 жыл бұрын
@@JanPBtest the whole point of nationality is not simply what your parents nationality is. It's the ties you have to the nation. That's why children born outside the states to US citizen parents who themselves were born outisde the states don't get US citizenship .. but the children likely wont have any ties to the US

as long as you have a portuguese child you have uncondional right to a residence permit. The law states one parent with a residence permit or living illegally in the country for 1 year. Therefore by having a portuguese child you are entitled to a 3 year residence permit and you can go back to give birth to all other children no problem. Futhermore you can not be removed from the country even if you are a suicide bombist because you have a portuguese child. A few time ago a foreigner raped their own child allowed to remain in the country for the protection of the child

Our government is a coalition between the democratic socialists, a far left party called the Left Block, the communists and the greens being the socialists the major party in Parliament. The second largest party is the social democrats that as u can see are not in the coalition cause they're too right wing even tho u can tell by the name their ideology is center left. Said that, this program is towards Africans from the ex colonies like Angola and Cape Verde. Like in the US blacks tend to vote for leftist parties so they're giving the right to vote to children of Africans living here and sons of illegals hoping they'll keep voting for them
