Another great video. I loved the boys helping out on night watch and catching fish. Their excitement was contagious as I was rooting for you all to land that big fish. You threw in a great word that not many know or use, Penultimate. Thanks for sharing your lives and adventures with us, I love it. Take care my friends and sail safe. 😊❤😊

That was a very good sized Mahi Mahi (Dorado)and I love the taste of them but I think you'll find that the Wahoo (means tastes good in Hawaiian) is even tastier. The boys are really holding their own now. Great that you made it to Fiji (Fey Geeeee as the Aussies say) safely. Well done!

I did not know Wahoo means that ! The great thing about these fish is that they feed us for days and days …

Woody, if money were no object and you were upgrading your vessel, would you go for another monohull or would you switch to a catamaran? It seems to this non-sailor, that catamarans offer increased stability, spaciousness, and comfort. With their dual hull design, catamarans appear have more living space both above and below deck, making them ideal for extended cruising or living aboard. Additionally, catamarans have shallower drafts, allowing access to shallower waters and secluded anchorages that may be inaccessible to monohulls. Overall, were I in your Sperrys, sailing as much as you guys do, the comfort and versatility of a catamaran would be my choice, again, if finances were not a concern.

While out upon the vast wild oceans a cat can get turned over by a big gust of wind alone, once turned over for any reason it stays turned over permanently.

Hi Bob. There are some that are ETIHER mono or multihull, and the debate can get quite heated but I see pros and cons with both. We almost bought a cat at the beginning but didn't for three reasons. 1. You get more for your money and much better build quality with a comparably priced monohull. That was important for us especially when going off shore and off grid 2. The sailing motion is just more organic in a mono and you 'feel' the sea and wind, making it a far more instinctive and enjoyable experience. 3. We're just more familiar with monos having sailed them all our career. If money was no object then yes, I'd certainly consider a solidly built cat.. along the lines of what Delos are doing - an aluminium expedition cat with hybrid engines - but that is way out of our budget unfortunately.

@@MotherShipAdrift Thanks for taking the tine to respond. I appreciate it. Your insights into the pros and cons of monohulls versus catamarans are invaluable, especially considering your extensive experience on the water. Your points about maximizing budget and staying true to your sailing roots with a monohull resonate deeply. Reflecting on my own introduction to sailing and my admiration for the tradition and beauty of monohulls, I can certainly understand the allure. It's fascinating to observe how sailing families like yours navigate life aboard their vessels, making every inch count. As MotherShip gracefully ages, it's natural to consider the future and potential upgrades. The ongoing maintenance highlighted in your recent video got me thinking about the next chapter for MotherShip. While she's undoubtedly served you well, I wonder if you envision a future vessel with different features or capabilities. For instance, would you lean towards an aluminum hull for durability, or perhaps a larger vessel to accommodate your growing family and evolving needs? If money were no object, what features would you prioritize on your wish list for the ultimate sailing vessel? Your insights and experiences continue to inspire, and I'm eager to hear your thoughts on the future of MotherShip and your sailing adventures. Fair winds and following seas, Bob

What is prop gen?
@MotherShipAdrift6 ай бұрын
Sorry , that was an abbreviation for propellor generator. Not sure how many other boats have it but when we are sailing, we generate power with our prop turning....it actually keeps up with all the instruments and fridge on !
