I planted one Asiatic lily last year and it didn't bloom. This June 2024 it did bloom with five buds. Two more lilies grew from the first lily, but the two new lilies likely won't bloom this year as I don't see any buds on them. Is that typical? Had I known how beautiful the Asiatic lily was, I would have planted at least a dozen of them last year. This spring I did plant ten more.

Don't worry: just follow the instructions on the video and you will keep getting more and more. It's ok if they don't flower the first year, they are building up their reserves. Remember: it's what's below ground that is key.

Thank you. Extremely helpful video. Could you please do a video that explains what to do if your lily bulbs are planted in the ground and not a pot? You say that the parent bulb will multiply and produce more bulbs, so is there a point where they will run out of room and the baby bulbs need to be dug up or separated and moved elsewhere? When and how should I do that? Thanks in advance.

Every 3-4 years, whether in ground or pot, you can dig up and split the bulbs and plant the babies somewhere else.

I picked up some spent lilies for one dollar each at Lowe's recently. I planted them and had no idea what to do with them, knowing they won't bloom until next year. This morning I walked out and one of the plant's leaves were all yellow. I was so sad because I noticed the others starting to yellow. I thought to myself, "I am not the plant whisperer," in sadness. Great explanations! Thank you. Question: the male parts (stamens) that contain the pollen are staining & messy so I like to snip them off before they open up and expose the pollen. Is this bad? Does that hurt the health of the plant at all? You mentioned to wait until the fruit sets before deadheading it. If I remove the stamen before their pollen fertilizes the female part (pistil) then I assume it wouldn't set fruit. So... is not letting it set fruit a bad idea?
@nomadimitri
@nomadimitri Жыл бұрын
Great questions! Yes, cut those stamens, it's even better. And, yes, in principle, there should be no fruit BUT there are always the neighbor's flowers or just a tiny stamen you neglected that can do the job...

I bought 8 for $23 at Costco yesterday. Not certain as to where to put them. Your info is what I need. Thank you!!

If you get a plant from seeds it risks being defective. If you have a small pot, you can divine every autumn and start a new pot

After the green part fades and dies off where exactly do I snip it off at? Also, thank you so much for such a thorough and extensive video full of information. I'm new to gardening period as I have never really had a green thumb in the past but I LOVE lilies. I was given a couple potted lily plants for mothers day and I really don't want to let these die...soooo glad I found your tutorial videos ☺️. Also, mine will have to stay in pots for now until I'm able to have an above ground garden as I live in Las Vegas NV and the soil here is HORRIBLE. I would soooo appreciate it if you could do a tutorial for those little lily plants that have to stay indoors in pots for the most part...thanks again and have a blessed and wonderful life🥰

When it's well dead, you can cut it flush to the ground. But you don't need to, you can just let it compost on its own.

Thank you for the info, I have some Easter lillies that already flowered and I snipped them off and made a bouquet for my home but now the stalks are big and unsightly and turning yellow, I almost snipped them, glad I saw your video before I did !! Can I cut them down a little or do I just wait until the rot away ? They are very tall that's why I wanted to cut them down. Please let me know and thanks again so much !!
@nomadimitri

If they really bother you, you can lower them down a bit, but the more you let be, the more you feed the bulb for next year. When yellow and completely dry, then cut them off

I received a beautiful bouquet of Stargazer Lilly's from someone only to find out two day's later the flower..the leaves and their pollen are highly toxic to cat's and can cause renal failure. I immediately put them out on my terrace and tried to thoroughly decontaminate my apt. But now I don't know how to dispose of them once they die as they are still living fine in a vase of water on my terrace with flower food added. I'm wondering once the flower's die is that pollen on them still poisonous ? Any info you can offer is appreciated. My kitty is fine so far..I removed the flower's to the terrace Monday evening and it's Thursday now...she has no symptoms. I'd kept them high up where she couldn't get to when they were inside as I do with any flower's but in a window sill and pollen may have fallen ..which I've vacuumed thoroughly now and wiped all furniture down with damp cloth. They are so beautiful but florist rarely put warning labels on them for cat owner's.
