Many people are confused here in the comments section. End of the day Kazakh people are Mongol people and historically Chingis Khan was a forward thinker allowed different religions to be in one country which may now cause a divide. At some point, Turks were a part of the Mongol empire too but now that they have gone and built their own country adopted the Muslim religion and developed somewhat Arabic culture does not make the history untrue. Most Turks do not look Turkic anymore, they look more caucasian these days but we Mongols from central Asia have preserved our looks and culture including Kazakh people. Does not matter Buriat, Khalkh, Uigar or Tuvan we are all Mongols under one Blue Tenger and the Sun.

It's interesting that this fellow keeps the bird for 10 years and then releases it into the wild! That is a long time to keep a raptor of that race and species and then to release it into the wild since it's gone way beyond the point of imprinting. This is why modern falconry will usually keep the bird for only one year and then release it. A bond created after 10 years can only be detrimental to a bird that has relied on shelter and care by a human then thrust in the wild. And I believe he is quite wrong about several things - these top of the food chain raptors are ready to hunt immediately in their first year not their 4th as he suggested. Then he sais when the bird reaches 10 years old she becomes broody? And wants to have chicks of her own? These birds reach sexual maturity at around 3 or 4 years old once they molt into their adult feathers and are no longer immature (if I'm not mistaken), not ten years. That's an awfully long time. So as much as I respect such old and native traditions, unfortunately their based on mostly ignorance and to no fault of their own. Still, magnificent birds and culture.

I think your points are correct.
10 жыл бұрын
You are right , but you have to give the man the credit for releasing the bird eventually. You might very well acknowledge the hardship of catching a new one . Stealing a newborn from the nest is hell of a job . Not to mention the heights you need to go for but also the danger you are putting yourself into as the mother might arrive any minute . so releasing a well trained animal after 4 years would not make any sense as the bird would be at the best of its time to hunt for him. I presume the bird gets a little bit slow after 10 years and nomad feels the need to acquire a newborn. Much as the nomads know when the bird is mature and ready to mate they have to keep to bird for long as its useful.

sorry but u read a book rite? but he is doing it for the rest of his life... and also it is a culture... sometimes.. a theory doesnt fit the real.. beacuse an expert also learn from them too...
@GoMiGman
@GoMiGman 10 жыл бұрын
Do I read a book rite?! Sorry but what does that mean? I have studied some ornithology and worked for many years with raptors and understand quite a bit of their behaviors and am speaking from this experience that we have learned through science and accredited, published information and species specific research. You should read my comment again except very carefully and then come back and tell me what exactly I said that you disagree with, and I will be happy to exchange information with you. For example, the information in the narration said that the "bird reaches sexual maturity at 10 years of age." This is ABSOLUTELY incorrect. Most diurnal species of raptors become sexual mature after their first molt, which means when they change their feathers for the first time. That is almost always in the first year. For example, the majority of Buteos (soaring hawks) develop their mature plumage after the first year and immediately thereafter within that year they are ready to mate. In Eagles it is a bit later such as the Bald Eagle for example. That bird reaches adulthood when it develops the white head and tail which is around 4-5 years old. By their 4th year they've found a mate and are sexually mature and nesting. Golden Eagles (which are these birds here in this video) have the same exact molting cycle that coincides with their sexual maturity which is also 5 years. Here, see this easy link for yourself: www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7096.html So when this fellow says this bird becomes broody and is ready to have chicks after 10 years, guess what? He is 100% wrong. The other major, major, major error he said is that the bird learns how to hunt after 4 years. How is that even possible in the wild? When the chicks fledge (leave the nest which is only 2-1/2 months after they are hatched, then who feeds them for the next few years until they're 4 years old? LOL! Guess what, these are the MOST PROLIFIC HUNTERS of the bird kingdom that their hunting instincts are so automatic that they are ready to hunt and learn how to hunt immediately after leaving the nest. How do we know all these things? Because like I mentioned, we have researched them vastly by the best means possible through many centuries. Which also introduces the other imprinting problem I mentioned. Imprinting means that when an animal (any kind of animal) from a very young age, gets used to a human feeding it and socializing with it, it automatically imprints on that human or any other one and relies on him/her to feed it. This is a very well know scientific fact. Again, this is why I mentioned it in my original comment and why falconers (who have been doing this for centuries) will only hold on to a young bird that was CAUGHT IN THE WILD and not hand-fed since it has already developed the early stages of being dependent and hold onto it and teach it to hunt for 1 year only and then release it. This is vital for the bird's chances to survive in the wild. I hope my explanation was adequate for you and please don't misunderstand me. I was not insulting this tradition or these people at all. If anything, I was actually respecting it but you cannot deny that it is based on ignorance and not on proper understanding, unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply, Ismail. Great name btw, it's the same as my nephew's. You're probably right in that this is most likely his thinking and intentions. I only stated that the technical information given was not accurate and actually surprisingly incorrect. Keeping a bird for that long and then releasing is something that is truly unique to nomadic cultures such as this. Keeping water away from it so it'll come back etc. all starvation tricks to make a very non-social and wild animal bond to you and see you as it's source of food. Making that bird used to something like that for 10 years and then suddenly telling it "go off, now you have to do it on your own" makes me think the percentage of those that survive is very, very low. Especially in that environment.
