My Nomos Orion, when people ask me what watch I enjoy the most, I think this is usually one of the first watches that comes to mind for me to say.
And despite owning this watch for two years, I have never done a review on this watch, until now.

Fell in love with Nomos during trips to Germany ten years ago. Haven’t been able to get them off my mind. I have my Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Tudor & have had multiple models of each. Decided it’s time to bring a Nomos home! So I’m researching. You’re my go to. Thanks for the insights on the lugs. Will definitely keep that in mind. I’m leaning towards a model equipped with Nomos’ Neomatik.

I owned an Orion 35 a few years ago - I work in banking so wear a suit or business casual everyday. It is a lovely dress watch and incredibly valued. I think Nomos as a brand represents incredible value and they take a great deal of care in their process. I only sold mine because at that time I had a rule to only have a 2-3 nicer watches and this one wasn’t as versatile as others given its design. I would definitely pick this up again to pair with my Tudor and Rolex OP as a stand-alone dress watch.

Teddy hits the mark again, thank you Teddy. For pure dress watch at home at boardroom or opera, the Orion looks like the best choice from Nomos and competes with much pricier brands for that niche. With a bigger wrist, the 38 will be the right fit for me. My preference is either many complications or time only so date version is off the table. Nomos manual movements allow for thinner watch harkening back to retro ideals and I dont mind winding up a watch, or friends, when needed.

Those looong lugs are why I went with the 33mm for my 6.5" wrist. It's an absolutely perfect and comfortable fit. I lean towards vintage watches anyway which are generally smaller, so there's that.

I absolutely love my Tangente 38, also went with the manual movement since it’s so thin and light. I love the blue steel hands, perfect accent. Amazing movement for its price, I also have a thin Zenith but almost always grab the nomos over it even though it was less than a third of the price. The Zenith has a beautiful movement also but the nomos flat crystal with blue hands gets me. Definitely agree the nomos is definitely a bargain at under $3,000. Thinking of getting a second nomos that’s more waterproof for the summer that’s how impressed I am with the brand.

Nomos is, IMO, a very underrated brand. I understand the Bauhaus style being a polarizing thing. Especially since there are so many fashion brands mimicking the style. But the horological importance of the brand is so much more than the pretenders. I'm personally a big fan of the Bauhaus school (as well as the band). Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

I just bought this for myself for my 50th birthday. So I am definitely not "younger" but I love my new Nomos Orion. Also, I am not attracted to "expensive" watches, so this is by far the most expensive watch that own, and I don't see myself pursuing more expensive brands.

After watching this video several times as well as a few TGV clips where he also lauds the Nomos Orion 35, I just ordered one from my local AD (with the exhibition case back) to celebrate my 70th. Hey Teddy I loved the silver but noticed the hands were not blued and although they do come in larger sizes the next size the 39 (I think) had the date. Although it's in the correct position at 6pm I would of preferred it as the smaller size. However if and when I do get to check out the range and try on some I feel sure their will be one that ticks all the boxes! 😁

Hi Teddy, great video. One suggestion - I’d really love to see you make a video on watch movements - one that goes in-depth into what makes a great watch movement vs a generic one. I’m fairly new to the watch community, and I’ve noticed watch reviewers/KZbinrs mention their admiration for certain movements, but only vaguely touch on their reasoning for appreciating them. This is rather confusing to a newcomer, as elements like jewels and power reserve don’t always correlate to price and quality. Thanks! (Disclaimer: I’ve watched your video on In-House vs ETA movements, but still curious for more info)

i am in love with their club campus nigh. i love the specs the case almost every thing except the dial or rather the 3 different hour markers, it takes away from the watch making it more of a to than a serious watch for me, i realise that they have all this and more in the more expensive clubs but i cant justice the price for those. if they simply put constant hour markers on dial i would and i think many others would buy this very fast.

The Orion is a beautiful watch. Did you try the 33mm model? I tried the Tangente and Orion, both in 35mm cases, the former was a perfect fit, but the long lugs of the Orion made it feel a little flat and long on the wrist even with the relatively small dial. My only other complaint was the winding of the Alpha versus the DUW caliber in the Tangente Gangreserve. The DUW is very smooth and with no spring back, whilst the spring back on the Alpha was a little off-putting.

This movement is not in-house but a highly modified ETA. They decorated the spring wheel with Glashutte swirl polish technique and also polished the third wheel. They also replaced the parts under shock absorber but then the shock absorber is Incabloc which is same as ETA. Nothing against it it’s good for the asking price

Their lugs seem to be long on the initial models like the Tangente and Orion. I would say that the 38mm works well for a 7-1/4 inch wrist if you want a lot of wrist presence. The slim bezel and the large face makes it look larger than a 38mm. I love my Orion 38mm. I also have a Tangente 35mm in a dial color that is no longer available. Both are great watches.

I would love to see a review about Orient Bambino, Curator Orient Starr or other.Tey are also in house movement watches, much cheaper, very accurate, with a lot of value! :)

Great watch! Do you have any Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Hearts to cover? You can borrow mine if you’d like.

Ian Cias I’m thinking of getting it too. Did you buy from Nomos direct?

Usman Hasan I did. Just went to their website yesterday and they already shipped it. There is an option to buy a deployment buckle, that way your leather strap won’t wear out too quickly. Make sure you get the right one according to the strap size. Good luck.

Hi! I’m also thinking about this Orion, but kinda confused about going 35 or 38, I have a 6,9’’ wrist and according to the video I should go for 35, but I never have a watch that’s under 38

Dongwei Bai Hi there I would go with the 38 if I were you. I got the 35 and my wrist size is just under 6,5, but it can look a bit small although I love the look of not having a big watch on my wrist. It’s up to you but I would go to a store and try out a size 35 for a similar watch if you’re still not sure. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Stone C Hi, is it possible if I can check how it looks on you? I checked my wrist and it’s actually 6.6” so we are pretty close

Just bought an Orion, but not a fan of the strap it came with. Where's that brown leather strap from TB? Looks stunning on the watch!

Great review Teddy. I am on the market for my first luxury dress watch. What’s your preference: Nomos Orion or Junghans Max Bill?
