@@GMineo Most of them however don't have an origin story video. Some of them aren't posted on official channels but they are official content with the same voice actors and everything. Like, Soldier 76 has an origin story video. Tracer does. The next character you're going to see that does have an origin story video is Sombra, all characters released after the official launch have origin story videos that are posted to the official channel. The characters with origin story videos are: Soldier 76 Tracer Ana Junkrat & Roadhog Sombra Orisa Doomfist Moira Briggite Wrecking Ball Ashe Baptiste Sigma Echo (newest hero) There's also the event cinemtatics for the story based "Archives" events that are just awesome. Uprising (tracer's first mission as an Overwatch agent) Retribution (you see pre-reaper reaper) Storm Rising (Tracer has a motorcycle) Those animations aren't as polished as these pixar level quality ones.

@@ref6661 Reaper didnt blow up the building. He and Jack were very close friends and loved each other. Jack literally defended Reaper even when he broke the laws, he would never do that. At that point, Overwatch was just too corrupted, with too many spies inside and Talon rising in power as its opposition. That's basically the whole Jack/Gabriel conflict. They don't know who actually blew up the building and Gabriel blames Overwatch for basically "abandonong" him after their death.

In the Overwatch universe, the robots are called Omnics (singular: omnic). They had such a super-advanced AI they developed self-will and some rose up and declared war on humanity. This was the Omnic Crisis which led to the formation of Overwatch. Overwatch aided in bringing an end to the crisis, but was disbanded several years later. You're seeing the individual stories of all their agents, and those who may become their agents or enemies, leading up from past to present time.

Back again with the backstories (Non-Spoilers) I consider Soldier 76 (Jack Morrison, 55) more of a Captain America turned Batman. He was a soldier who volunteered for a experimental military program that turned him into a super soldier & was the main reason he was one of the first Overwatch agents & eventual leader. Fun fact: Reaper aka Gabriel Reyes (56) was one of his closest friends & is thought to be the one who setup 76 to take the fall at the end of Overwatch.

The robots (aka omnics) actually started a war against humans named the omnic crisis, and Overwatch was the organization that put an end to it. Due to this war, a negative stigma againts omnics was left behind which is why you see the omnic being beat up in this cinematic, and that’s also why the people were gathered in support of omnic rights in the the “Alive” cinematic.

Soldier 76 and Reaper were part of the American Super Soldier Program. 76 was once Strike Commander Jack Morrison and was the leader of Overwatch. Overwatch was essentially the Avengers. Reaper used to be Gabriel Reyes who lead Blackwatch. Overwatch's blackops division. Someone betrayed overwatch and aired all dirty laundry of the them. Including the blackops missions. With the Omnic War finished people believed that Overwatch was just making more trouble than helping so it got shutdown. But not before some conflict happened and the facility was blown up with both men inside. React to all the origin vids pls. There are some short animated "origin" stories on the PlayOverwatch channel that go into more detail, such as background on this guy, Soldier: 76. The short version of the overall stories is that some of these robots (omnics) turned on their masters and there was a huge war, which is why Overwatch was created, but once the war was over, Overwatch was seen as more of a liability than benefit by the public. The omnics never overtook humanity or anything, but they're a constant threat in the background. Great reaction!

It's just a mask, he still got his face underneath it but he uses the mask in combat as you saw that the visor can lock on targets and it is also his ultimate in the game :) his visor locks on targets and you cant miss them unless they are hiding behind a wall during the ult time. 1. Like others said, he's "Soldier 76". He was one of the two leaders of Overwatch (he was the leader of Overwatch, Reaper was the leader of Blackwatch, the Black Ops side of Overwatch) Before he got the mask, and before Reaper got his whole smoke powers. There was in-fighting, Reaper wanted more power or something. In the end, there was a huge explosion and I think they were both noted as dead. Dr. Ziegler (Mercy, the blonde with wings, who is a healer in the game, and whom you haven't seen yet) healed Soldier 76 as best she could, and the rest was patched with machinery. Reaper was instead experimented on by an "evil" doctor (you won't hear about her until MUCH later, assuming you do the Origin Stories as well as the Animated Shorts). He was given those smoke powers as a result. Their personalities are still apparent even with their new identities (76 still helps people, even at the risk of his life, as you saw; Reaper still just wants more power, and to do whatever he wants, as we saw slightly when he attacked Winston to steal the Overwatch files in Episode 2 I think?) 2. In regards to the Robots Oppression, as I had detailed in a previous comment, the events that happen in these videos are after the big "Omnics War", which is basically a World War of humans vs robots. Humans won, but the peaceful robots are still around, and are being oppressed because of the war.

The short story of Overwatch is that long ago intelligent AI tried to take over the world, Overwatch was founded and stopped them. After that Humans and the intelligent robots worked to get along and built a new society together. Eventually Overwatch was undermined and what happened is the same as in Avengers where the organization was blamed for being a menace to society and being completely shut down after an attack on the Overwatch headquarters that killed the leaders, This guy was one of them but he survived and now he roams the world trying to get the ones who betrayed them.

if you want to know what happened to overwatch in general and know a bit more about who this guy was, i recommend watching the origin story for soldier 76, it is a short video of around a minute, also a little tip is that usually those origin stories have more story about the characters than the animated shorts, they tell you who they are, and these shorts tell you more about what they do, but nice vid and would you reconsider hiring Haley? :)

Jack Morrison was the Strike Commander of Overwatch. This caused a bit of tension between him and Gabriel Reyes (Reaper, the creepy wraith dude with the shotguns from Winston's Cinematic), who believed that he was meant to be the leader. Gabriel was instead leader of Overwatch's secret operations, known as Blackwatch. After a poorly executed mission, Morrison and Reyes got into a fight, with the tension building up so high that a fight broke out. The main facility was destroyed, and Jack Morrison was supposedly killed in the damage. However, he survived, and now goes under the alias of Soldier: 76. He is essentially the masked vigilante of the franchise, dishing out justice wherever he goes. The reason for the tension between humans and omnics is that this game takes place in the wake of the latest "Omnic Crisis," a global event in which omnic manufacturing factories were taken over by God AI programs, which began mass-producing deadly machines - the Bastion and OR-15 units. Because of this, many families lost their loved ones. The Australian outback was literally turned into a barren, almost uninhabited wasteland. People now hold a grudge against omnics, and will do anything to remind them that humans are the ones on top.

Genji and Hanzo are not actually the dragons in the legend. They were the sons of the Shimada family, a clan of assassins. Hanzo, the archer, was the heir. At this point in time, Genji was pursuing a playboy lifestyle, not giving much thought to the business of the Shimada Clan. Genji's carefree lifestyle infuriated a lot of people in the clan, including Hanzo, and it eventually came to a violent confrontation between the two brothers in which Hanzo believed he had killed Genji. But Genji was rescued by Overwatch. As his wounds left him barely clinging to life, Overwatch built him a cybernetic body. The legend is either meant to serve as an allegory to the conflict between Genji and Hanzo or it is actually how the Shimada clan was originally founded, making Genji and Hanzo the descendants of the two dragons and explaining their supernatural dragon ability. The Dragons cinematic begins with "My family tells of an ancient legend about two great dragon brothers" and Hanzo says during it that "Only a Shimada can control the dragons".

Also, I found it pretty cool how Genji appears to be much more skilled than Hanzo and defeats him fairly handily, but I believe that is meant to show that Genji has accepted what he has become, has forgiven Hanzo and is at peace, while Hanzo is still in conflict with his past and who he is.

jack Morrison was the leader of the overwatch task force, when riots and such against overwatch broke out, terrorists blew up ow hq, and jack morrison was there at the time. thats why he has a face mask and all that, now he hunts down the people who brought overwatch down. and the robots are hated because of the omnic crisis where the self automated robot dispensarys started pumping out fighting robots such as bastion from the last bastion short, which caused a war between human and machine known as the omnic crisis.

Jack morrison Aka soldier 76 was a hero at the overwatch team, him and Gabriel Reyes aka Reaper survived a blast and jack had a scar as you can already see in the trailer, a part of him died just like genji, everyone thought he died but he was a mistery to everyone and no one knew his true identity

@G-Mineo Ok let me lore dump for you since it's never covered in the animated shorts because the shorts take place after all of this. This is going to be long, so strap yourself in. What you surmise is going to happen has already happened. The robots, when they gained sentience, renamed themselves Omnics. They were designed and built as tools for humans. They were everything from a Maitre'd at your local restaurant to, basically, a Transformer for Military Defense. They were never abused by humans. But something happened whereby their programming became corrupted. It's been a while since I've read the actual lore, but it was either some human who corrupted their programming or some Skynet type entity. Either way, the Omnics turned on their human overlords and a war began. This is very much iRobot. As with any war, human prejudice began to permeate the world social consciousness and humanity went to war. You will see aspects of this war in later animated shorts. Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes, who would eventually become Soldier 76 and Reaper, entered a US Army Super Soldier Program (think Captain America). They became best friends. And after successfully coming out the other side, they were tasked by the United Nations to put together of team of people with abilities above and beyond the norm to deal with the Omnic Threat. Basically the UN told them to form The Avengers. So they did. And they dealt with the Omnic threat. By not killing them all. The details of the war and Overwatch's eventual interjection is sketchy at best because Blizzard hasn't really gone into detail. Suffice it to say, Overwatch ended the war and brought, for the most part, an era of peace between the Omnics and Humanity. As you've seen with the Widowmaker Animated Short and this one, there are still pockets of humanity that hate the Omnics. So, Overwatch was lauded as a huge success and its members were lauded as heroes. Hence the old, dilapidated poster on the wall that Alejandra grabs at the end of this short. As the organization grew, they became officially sanctioned by the UN and it's member governments. So, of course, they had to abide by the red tape. Morrison, now the Commander of Overwatch, and Reyes, the Second-In-Command, realized that they needed to be able to operate around, above, and below all the red tape to effectively do their jobs, but being UN Sanctioned meant nobody could know. So they created a secondary, hidden, organization within Overwatch called Blackwatch. This was their Covert Ops Division. And Gabriel Reyes was the commanding officer of this division. They operated in the shadows, doing things that Overwatch itself could not. That also meant they weren't beholden to laws or ethics. Over time, Gabriel Reyes began to become unhinged. It started when Morrison was named Commander of Overwatch. Reyes believe he should have been the Commander and was always jealous of Morrison because he got the job. When he was handed Blackwatch, Reyes reveled in it, having carte blanche to do whatever he wanted as long as he got the job done. His methods were... questionable. Morrison himself berated Reyes for some of the things he did. Eventually Reyes' jealousy of Morrison and disdain for authority began to dramatically affect his team's effectiveness because they began to question Reyes. This would all come to a head when Reyes outright murdered a man they were sent to capture for interrogation, thus setting off all the alarms and forcing the Blackwatch Strike Team to have to fight their way out of what should have been a simple infiltration and kidnapping. You can experience this in the game during the Archives and Anniversary Events. Morrison, of course, was livid. He interrogated all the members of Blackwatch upon their return and laid into Reyes. This would eventually lead to a huge rift between the former best friends. This would also lead to an investigation by the UN since you don't shotgun a dude through his third story window, kill all his men, and blow up his house without being noticed. Especially when the man in question is well-known globally. Eventually they would discover potential corruption in the ranks, but they didn't know who. Morrison would accuse Reyes, for obvious reasons. Reyes didn't take kindly to that. And Morrison and Reyes would have a drag-out argument leading to a fight at Overwatch HQ. The fight didn't last long as whomever the mole or traitor was would blow up the HQ with Reyes and Morrison inside. Morrison was presumed dead and Reyes was rescued by the criminal organization known as Talon. This prompted a full investigation from the UN into Overwatch itself. And it would be here that the UN discovered Blackwatch. Outraged that Overwatch had a Covert Ops Unit that operated well outside the law and discovering just how far Reyes had took the unit into the darkness and Morrison covered it all up to protect the unit, the UN banned Overwatch. They shut the whole program down and made it illegal to operate as an Overwatch agent anywhere in the world. And this is where we pick up present day with the animated shorts. Winston was the only member of Overwatch to remain in what was left of their Headquarters at Gibralter, tirelessly monitoring the world news. The rest of the agents went their separate ways, most of them becoming vigilantes in their home turf, keeping the peace anonymously and staying off the radar. Others went back to their jobs they had prior to joining Overwatch, trying to keep the world safe in that fashion. Morrison survived the explosion, but the world thinks he's dead. Overwatch, of course, knows he's alive. At least some of them do. Burdened with the guilt and his failure, Morrison has become the ultimate vigilante calling himself Soldier 76, trying to atone for his sins. How the UN doesn't know it's Morrison is beyond me since Soldier 76 was his Code Name in the Super Soldier Program. Reyes had a number too, but I can't remember it off the top of my head. I think he was Soldier 24 or something like that. So throughout these animated shorts, you have seen and will continue to see the ever growing threat of Talon. But you'll also be introduced to a third faction, and Omnic Factions called Null Sector. They appear to be remnants of The Omnic War that want to wipe humanity out. So it would seem we're headed into a new Three-Way-War between Overwatch, Talon, and Null Sector. And that's where the game picks up. Now the game isn't lore heavy in the game itself. There's isn't a campaign mode or anything. All of the lore are in the maps themselves and the character skins and descriptions. There is some lore in the Archives Event Missions. However, Overwatch 2 is, supposedly, going to be lore focused and have an actual campaign. And from what little we've seen, it looks like it picks up with Winston have activated the Recall and the remnants of Overwatch beginning to assemble to take on this new threat without the UN's Sanction. So it would not surprise me if the UN enters this war as a Fourth Faction. Though, since Overwatch are the good guys, it will be more likely that the UN reinstates Overwatch to defend the world from the new two-pronged threat. We'll just have to wait and see. Anyway, that's Overwatch in a rather large nutshell. Hopefully this helped and provided some clarification. I look forward to more Overwatch Reactions from you guys!

If you guys want to learn about more info that isn’t in the animation or to figure out those little small effects they add like in Dragons when Genji has a feather at the end, all you have to do is scroll through some of the character skins and it can give you some lore!

For the next video it would be cool if you did the short “Are you with us” on top of whichever other one you choose because it give a good amount of backstory but is only about 2 minutes long so not long enough for its own video
