Ranger got good in 5e when Gloomstalker got released in the SCAG. I had a player using the original base Ranger with Hunter subclass and he was outperformed at every turn by the other players. My Gloomstalker though absolutely wrecked in combat, exploration, and was even halfway decent in social aspects with Disguise Self. Helped that I was a Changeling too, though. But yeah, Rangers in 5e still get way too much flak when they're actually pretty good. I haven't played PF2E yet (getting it for Christmas), but I can already tell that I'm gonna be a Ranger main again! Also, monk actually looks effective here.

One fun thing with investigator is to try them with weapons that are high-commitment loading weapons, or weapons with fatal die (so, rifles and pistols can be great on them). Devise a strategem, and see if you'll get that vital shot off or even crit with it. Then couple that with whatever support actions you can, and it makes them really easily able to work around needing to load weapons. Also it feels like you're reenacting that one scene from the end of Untouchables when you know you can get a critical hit at a pivotal moment.

Same. I’ve always considered Pathfinder even before this whole thing with Wizards started but I was intimidated by how many options there were. But now I see it’s all customization and I love it. My main thing is that there’s an actual summoner class, a few of these classes are standalone classes rather than subclasses for other classes in dnd like the artificer? The alchemist is accounted for, the gunslinger is basically it’s own class and it’s the artillerist and the inventor is basically battle smith and armorer. Obviously these are all better too!

Really loved how you melded thematic/narrative reasons for each class with the mechanical perspective, most characters are a variable mix of those two ingredients. As for what I would want to play (once the Sisyphean boulders of GMing and only having 24 hours in a day are gone): Mutagenist Alchemist, Paladin Champion, Ancestral Weapon Monk, Outwit Ranger, Staff Nexus Wizard, Life Oracle, Twisting Tree Magus... and like three or four different Summoners.

I started as a Ranger, with... mixed oppinions. I loved the flavor, but I felt like I was always doing the same things (mostly just either marking or walking, then firing once and commanding my puppy to attack), and yet i still made sure to do some creative stuff, like using my Acrobatics to jump from a crate and land behind the enemy, punching him with my big Orc hands and giving the Rogue his sweet-sweet flanking. Then, after that module was over, I switched to a Witch. Oooooh boy... I didn't know I was such a spellcaster kinda guy. Let's just put it like that: in the first session the DM allowed me to use Telekinetic Projectile to throw the Cleric's blood into the enemy (he gave me penalty to hit, but a bonus in damage just for the funzies), and I ended up one-shooting the guy. I love this game, I love the Witch class, I love my Orc.

I enjoy your videos and think you do a great job. I was hoping you’d overcome your hate for the Bard in this video. Your hate didn’t show through, but you undersold it. For anyone watching this video and feeling like the Bard was glossed over as some niche, quirky alternative, consider this: The Bard is a force multiplier. The class has tools that enhances all the other classes (including the Bard’s own abilities) and de-buffs enemies, potentially during the same round. As a full caster that embraces Charisma as their class skill, the Bard makes a natural party face. That high Charisma also affords it other little benefits that most other classes won’t get, like being able to fully utilize most offensive heritage spell options throughout their entire character progression. The Bard also has the game’s largest supply of Will-based offensive/de-buffing spells, suitable in both combat and social situations, and something the otherwise powerful Primal spell list all but ignores. And unlike the otherwise very powerful Arcane spell list, the Occult list also has some healing options. The Bard is not a blaster, especially when it comes to elemental damage. Just like it’s not an overly effective martial character compared to other options. But again, he’s a force multiplier. The Bard increases everyone else’s effectiveness, and pretty efficiently. Depending on character options chosen, the Bard can also be a font of information with its Bardic Lore ability. This means that, when played as rules written & suggested, the Bard should receive the equivalent of Expert status in a potentially limitless list of Recall Knowledge topics throughout a campaign. The Bard presents a player who is comfortable sacrificing some of his or her own personal table glory in the name of better group effectiveness, both in and out of combat. While the Bard can make a great third or fourth party member, the class also makes for the ultimate fifth member, one who can boost the effectiveness of other team members no matter their respective specializations. In a game that forces good team play to survive more than its previous edition or even offerings from other companies, the Pathfinder 2e Bard is ahead of the curve and makes for a great choice for any selfless player.

Worth pointing out that the summoner starts with Act Together which lets gives one free action to either summoner or eidolon. So you get 4 actions per turn split between the 2. @cheezeofages2 жыл бұрын
I think a good tip is to not look at absolutely all the feats and stuff a class gets, as where you want to take it can be shaped a little by the game and the roleplay (for example I went into a game once with no intentions to take beastmaster on my swashbuckler, but he met a nice animal and also happened to use nature successfully to tame animals so it kinda made sense narratively to). However, if you want to get solid peak at the future of the class you can get a good idea of the major points of how a class will play in the future by looking at levels 9-12, glancing over the feats and class abilities in that range. Most classes get feats or abilities that make a big gameplay change around level 10. For example Rogues get Debilitating Strike at 9, Barbs get the ability to combine raging with a rage action at 11 (making their action economy much better), champions get Divine Smite and Exalt in that range, Oracles get another curse tier at 11, etc. Feats such as stronger refocusing, or a paladin grabbing Blade of Justice, or a ranger getting Master Monster Hunter that can be big dynamic shifts are also around then. So don't necessarily look too far ahead, but glancing at the stuff the class gets near level 10 can be helpful without being too overwhelming.
@feral_orc2 жыл бұрын
I disagree completely. While there might be meta picks at that level, most players will never use those abilities for the majority of a campaign. And by the time a game gets to that point, stat distribution shouldn't matter as much if you've got requirements to meet, or you can try retraining. Class and subclass should be enough to go on with a well rounded description of the class fantasy.
@cheezeofages2 жыл бұрын
@@feral_orc Yeah, but if they want an idea of what the future holds to either make sure it's what they want or understand the class a little better then around 10th is where I'd recommend looking as that's where some of the big gameplay shifts exist for the classes. Even casters. My main point was if they wanted to, not that they should or are required to. Meta was also a poor choice of words. I meant things that will shake up your gameplay patterns.

yeah but the way of the sniper is more focus on long range firearms... and the other focus on pistols, "pistol and sword" or shootguns... so they will hit at longer range because they are more likely to use an Arquebus with 150 ft range thant a pistolero with his dueling pistol of 60ft range (edit to use 2 martial weapon insted 1 martian and 1 simple... didn't feel right)

@@Atrianpaul It's true that they are the most suited to using the longest range guns of the ways available but they are still stealth focused more than range. Their initial deed doesn't even work unless you are rolling stealth for initiative, their special reload lets you hide, their other deeds require you to either be hidden or the target to be flat-footed which for a ranged fighter is most reliably achieved by being hidden, and their range with any particular weapon isn't any greater than any other gunslinger's, or any other class, with that same weapon.
@naoura49392 жыл бұрын
@@shredderswipe While you're 100% correct on the point of their feat choice being stealth focused, I think that's to offset the already extreme range some of the longarm firearms get. 300 feet at only a -2 penalty is hard to beat, and if you're shooting from cover (or concealment), ducking back in to stealth and constantly making the enemy wonder where in Sarenrae that shot came from makes perfect sense. It's the ambusher, no doubt, but not a close range ambusher. The only way you'll be rolling stealth for initiative while the rest of your party dives into the melee is if you're putting that range to absolute *work*.

As a 5e player who is trying to get into PF2e, I am looking for something specific and there's tons of pages, so I would appreciate some help from the experts here. You see, one of the things I love most about 5e is all these subclasses that basically create a different and unique twist on a class. I am refering to stuff like Echo Knight, Wildfire druids, astral self monks, genie warlocks, etc... They all have their own powerful gimmick that makes them play in a unique way that no other character can mimic. I love how thanks to the multiclassing it's possible to create unique concepts by mixing those unique features. Now, all the content of PF2e is overwhelming and it's too easy to trip on the "standard" classes and subclasses. So, I would really appreciate if someone could point to me some of these "character turnaround" subclasses, feats or whatever that feels less of a trope and more like an original character.

No! It's more of a "Combo Finisher" than a "Fight Finisher"! (Though they can often be both with how much damage they deal!)
@JacksonOwex2 жыл бұрын
I don't believe so but I haven't look at them as much as some of the other classes!
@sorcerer4552 жыл бұрын
Look at it as a finishing sequence in a series of actions. Although all the sequence can be is panache-gaining action (tumble through for example) > finisher (deal high amount of damage). Also to note, once you use a finisher you cannot use any action with the attack trait for the rest of that turn. So it is also a finisher in terms of an attack sequence. Simply put, finishers are just super powerful attacks you can do once per turn.

Single target, single attack for ranger. A rogue can still out damage them with multiple attacks on a single target, because sneak attack is not limited to the first attack. Sneak attack can be applied to every attack in a round.

So from what I've been scouring on the webz, it seems like Pathfinder 2 is like a D&D that is better in every way, though crunchier. 20 classes is cool. Feats are cool. Actual rules for non-combat stuff is awesome, because Three Pillars my ass, WotC. Hated 5E because of that. It looks like 3.5 on steroids, and I'm here for that.

So please let me know if I’m missing something but you mentioned Power Attack for barbarians, and I feel like you mentioned it for them in other videos. But barbs don’t get power attack as far as I’m aware?

As someone who played DnD for years before burning out, I know you "should" pick you class and then your ancestry... But my husband only convinced me to join his Pathfinder game with cheek pouches. CHEEK POUCHES!! Like, you can casually just pull a grenade out of your mouth mid combat!? But I digress... I really want to build a "noble Reepicheep, defender of the helpless" type character, but my role play style needs to include flexibility - I get bored if i only have one effective combat option... so I was thinking Swashbuckler or Thaumaturge or even Magnus?? But I actually want to be good at what I do, I'm afraid I'll be too squishy for hand to hand combat. How do I make a boss mouse without getting flattened in combat?

Played a bard for a while (only up to level 4, our DM took a job in a different state for a while and now that he's back we're starting a new pf campaign with a different DM) and was BORED TO TEARS in combat, not realizing that PF2E bards are pure support and no fun (imo). Rolepay was nice with stats like society, diplomacy, performance, and bardic lore, but combat was ALWAYS 1. Move to optimal space for 60' circle (1 action) 2. roll for lingering composition (free action) 3. Inspire Courage (1 action) 4. ??? Shield cantrip I guess??? I'm too far away to Aid so I Don't Get Hit, none of my other spells are one action, I used my movement to be in an optimal space to cover my allies, and if I do get Lingering Composition to work, freeing up an action on subsequent turns, none of my spells had more than 30' range. And as a squishy support bard, why would I ever use a movement to get within range of melee attackers' movement, fire off a 2 action spell, and then be unable to run the fuck away?? (Seriously hate not being able to break up my movement.) All of this could just be the way I *thought* the class 'needed to be played' to be any good, and if anyone has any advice on how to make bard combat a little more interesting than 'set up composition cantrip and fall asleep for the rest of the battle' hmu. But The Guys™wanna play PF2E instead of 5e, so I guess I'll try a Ranger this time......I hear they're decent in this system.... Or maybe a swashbuckler?

Compared to the options and bonuses a Wizard get, I believe a Polymath mage with a Spellbook is a "better" wizard than a wizard : you get a lot of bonuses much quicker and the buff/debuff occult spell list+compositions cantrip allow you to make a big difference and always feel usefull. Plus I disagree : you're not only a spellcaster, you CAN hit (and you're sturdier than a wizard) depending on your build, while still being a decent spellcaster. You excel nowhere but you're the perfect swiss army knife that give those sweet +1/-1 here and there, and deal a bit of damage. In comparison, a wizard has a loooot of spells but just a bit more spellslots than a bard (but a polymath can soon have as much spells as a wizard). The offensive spells of the arcane list hit for less than a martial class, and often require both a spell attack roll AND a save (for 1-2d4 or d6+spellcasting modifier). So you can often spend a spell slot, deal a little bit of damage, see a martial character deal double that on a simple roll, and feel useless (not a big powerfull wizard). You don't get signature spells (and the spontaneity of changing signature spells that a bard can get), you get few boosts before lvl5, ... A bard buffs, sees the hits coming because of the +1/-1, feels usefull cause it is his job, and can have fun quicker. Bards are underrated
