Yes, Altamecia believes herself to be benevolent while Crimson is a magnificent bastard through and through, Ragna hates them both but Alta disgusts him more. Alta cares more about her bloodline while Crimson sees his allies and servants as pawns.

There is barely any material for a 12 episode season. Maybe if they spent more time with the worldbuilding the author did after Ragna joined the Sun Cult but then right after there is a long sequence of battles. We are currently at chapter 77, and the Anime stops at chapter 54. I'd say a good spot to announce a second season would be at the 100th chapter or so.
