6:17 I will say, you're right, AND hes right Pulled apart the code for it, - It is two moving averages, one higher and lower (not quicker and slower) - it just reads super similarly to a baseline! - flips based on if the close is above or below (It just has a bit of a deadzone where it doesnt flip) Its not a moving average crossover, you're right and hes bullshitting you with that So SSL is a baseline, that has some delay and some squeezing room

This is why I'm trading with a small account. I believe I have a good system in place but needed to get a handle on the psychological aspect. Even though you're using a small account, it makes a huge difference because you are using actual, real money instead of a demo account where outcomes don't matter in the end. You'll feel like you went bankrupt when a stock goes down $0.01 and celebrate like you won the lottery when it goes up $0.01.

After using SSL as a benchmark, found an indicator that yielded 59% true win rate across 2000 sample size, on 27 Paris going 3 years into the past. This manages to get into those big and small trends without getting all those losses. However, SSL served me very well after smoothing it a bit. Thanks VP

I have been looking at the SSL indicator after this upload and it seems to work quite well as an entry indicator (well enough until the next, better one comes along) but I like to figure out what the indicators are actually measuring so I dont end up with a bunch of 6 in my algorithm that all end up showing a positive trade for the same reason ... The SSL seems to give the same signals as an SMA crossover BUT based on High and Low rather than Open and close. Nothing wrong in this, if it works, and funny that we covered MA earlier in the NNFX course, but I think this proves the point that it is worth tinkering and customising your indicators and trying everything you can exhaustively to use them or eliminate them. I have since also tried different OHLC combination on other indicators and its super interesting where it can lead. I now feel like I am on the way to finding my happy algorithm and looking forward to improving it! Thanks, VP!

SSL is a system of 2 baselines, a MA low and a MA high. If price goes above MA high it's considered bullish and MA low becomes "Support". And vice versa if price goes bellow MA low, it's considered bearish and MA high becomes "Resistance". That's how I understand it.

VP, you need a RAID system on your computer. That’s where two hard drives act as one. If one crashes, you replace it and the surviving drive clones the new one, and you are back in business. If your computer is your work site, build it bad ass!

This was a great video. I do have a question about trading at the end of the day. VP said we need to learn how to trade right before the end of the day. I'm in LA and the Forex day opens/closes at 2PM, since VP was showing the crosses on the daily chart, the candle would close at 1:59:59 PM. The new candle would start for the next Forex day but we wouldn't enter the trade until this first candle closed (which would be a whole 24 hours). As an example, if the indicators flipped and the candle closed on Monday at 1:59PM, we wouldn't enter until the next candle closed which means entry around 2 PM on that Tuesday? Hope I understood this correctly.

As VP says this is a moving average indicator. Since I have some idea about programming I will try to explain the way it works. It is calculating the 10 period SMA (simple moving average) of the highs and of the lows of the candles. Once price closes above the highs (or bellow the lows) we have a change in the trend (and the cross of the lines).

There is a version of this. I think it's called plain SSL. I use it as a baseline and it's working so well than what I had before. Give it a try with a setting of between 5 to 7.

I like this indi. Good deal of lagging out your exit though as it seems it wiser to wait two candles to confirm an exit, as the "flippity flop" could scare you out too soon, or vice versa and you get out too late and you lose many trades. I agree this indi should not be used without a volume indicator.

I think this version is a repainter. After testing extensively , I put the first forward test after a crossover on the next completed daily candle and the next day it had opened up again, crossover gone. I thought it might be a little too good to be true , I was getting really excited. 80% win and even then taking you out with positive pips before stop loss 95%. I am looking for another version. Ive recently retired. Ive studied every futures and investment 'anything' from Jack Schwagger ( and his 'market masters') to Buffet to Soros to Ed down the street who raises chickens and has an interesting take on the 'egg' market! I actually started as a grass seed and bird seed trader/buyer/seller when mullets were still a thing. I Still hold longer term occasionally but Im attempting the 'day trade' world since I enjoy math. I actually do very well....if you take away commissions and fees...hahahaha. (That was funny). Being used to very active days it is extremely difficult to sit on my hands staring at the screen. I am also very risk averse....so... I over trade. Your organizational algs have been very helpful no matter markets or time frames. I would assume that your teaching in metals would have to involve reversals ( a large change in your overall strategy). Anyway...I enjoy you stuff and sense of humor.

@@banksj54 What he has said in past videos (and here) is the only time you care what the indicator says is at the end of the day when the candle completes. In this video he is talking to someone who might be watching in the middle of the day and notice that the indicator, in the middle of the day, has flipped and so you might think it is time to pull out of the trade. This is incorrect thinking because you should be ignoring whatever happens in the middle of the day, no matter what it does. All that matters is what things look like at the end of the day. I hope this helps.

If you ask me I still think the Absolute Strength indicator one-ups the SSL. I observed that the cross does not appear until one or two candles have appeared away from the point where the cross should have happened. I hope that got out right! I find that if I can adjust the Absolute Strength enough to mirror the calls on the best SSL settings, it works just as great if not better. My main issue with the SSL is the delay...........

There's really no problem with turning on the alert with this indicator because it does not wait till the bar completes to change. If you're trading the daily, it could flip at any time of the day, and you'd get an alert.

Hello VP. I have tried many of the indicators that you propose including the SSL indicator alone and in combination with many many other indicators. When I say that I have tried I mean that I have coded programs with all the parameters of your algorithm. Totally I can say that I have coded 250-300 programs testing the indicators that you propose and the total algorithm that you propose. Unfortunatelly I have not found ANY combination that wins in a 10 year period. Everything loses in the long run. I don't know what else to do. And believe me I am very capable and very hard-working person in my whole life and especially in forex. Please help if you have anything to propose.

Thanks for this video VP. I have now listened to most of your videos and podcasts. I get the idea of what you are teaching us but it's still damn frustrating. It feels like you have this huge treasure map but have torn it into 1,000 pieces and somehow we need to put them all together like a jigsaw. I know it sure helps when you point us to an indicator that you've tested. However, this doesn't even rank in your top 50! It falls between the 50 and 100 best indicators you have. So does it have value? Okay! I hear you - "Go and do the testing" you say. You spent 10 years getting where you are. How long will it take me to test and arrive at an algorithm that makes me profitable. I'm getting long in the tooth and not sure I have enough years left to get there :) But as they say - Never Give Up!

mix it with Aroon up and down(tweak the settings), RVI(again, try multiple settings), and of course MACD crossover and an EMA (20), you're good to go.

Thanks for this. Even though you won't give out which exact indicators you use, I have a hunch the ones you use are relatively simple to calculate and most likely modifications of the common indicators. It only makes sense as the more moving averages and whatnot used in an indicator's formula would only increase the lag of the signals you get.

The trading platform I use doesn't have SSL, TFT, Gann-Hilo or RVI, and they don't accept MT4/MQ4 programming. I would have to write the code myself into their programming language. I have no problem doing that, I just need to know the code.

Can anyone please help, my custom indicators are noy displaying on charts, it says "array out of range in 'ssl-channel-chart-alert-indicator.mq4' (51,17) " in Experts tab.. the indicator shows in indicator's list though

Try - open expert and indicator tab. click on an indicator in expert and without letting the mouse release drug it into the indicator tab. only what is in the indicator tab will be displayed on the chart or an indicator windows. If it didn't work on the platform go to the file where the indicator gets downloaded - forgot the name and make the move there. Always make sure that an indicator gets downloaded and placed in INDICATOR TAB.

What I am learning about the daily candle is don't check your trades until near the closes , your stop loss and risk manager are in place for a reason , just stay away and leave alone , confident in your system , it's simpler and more pleasurable that way . Oh and more profitable , stay out of your own way . 😉

I love my Thursday morning break time, and this channel is the reason why. So would you still consider this a 2 lines cross, or just a chart indicator? If you consider it a 2 line cross, do you still recommend not using another 2 line cross with it?
