At ASU it was so frustrating. He would almost single-handedly shut down an opponent, then on 3rd and long, he'd have a stupid personal foul, give them a first down and an extra 15 yards, and the Sundevils would lose. I was so happy when he went to the pros early, so he could be someone else's problem.
@Robert-lg7io
@Robert-lg7io Ай бұрын
@larrycot As an avid ASU alumnus, I too feel that pain and experienced those games. As you cited, Burfict would dominate the game just as LT did for the Giants, except as you described, he would give the other team the extra yardage, they would score. and ASU would lose... This happened multiple times and when he left ASU I too was glad... but my pain was compounded because I was a Raiders fan, and we eventually acquired his "services." With Burfict's talent, it was amazing he wasn't even drafted -- but shows what an undisciplined and dirty player he was. And, I feel bad for the Bengals fans where Vontaze personally lost a playoff game for them...

As a Bengals fan this guy broke my heart. He didn’t need to be a dirty player, he was a great football player. His instincts and ability to get the defense into the right play presnap made him an impact player. But he was a dirty, dirty player and it was that more than injures in my opinion that ended his career. His rep was so bad that refs would just state him down and wait for him to do something stupid (and he always did).

He had all the talent to be one of the best linebackers ever; too bad his head was screwed on wrong. It’s pretty egregious how the league allowed this sort of behaviour for so long. These fines and short suspensions are just slaps on the wrists to guys like this. I’m a track and field athlete, where if people get suspended for things (like doping violations), they miss something in the realm of 4 years. That’s a real deterrent, and those doping violations aren’t putting someone’s entire life at risk like Burfict’s play was. I think by the time he’s getting his third fine, players like this should be under review to be suspended for an entire season. After that, 2-4 years, and after that, permanent bans. Even then, he still has less to lose than the guys he’s taking shots at.

Glad to hear his Mom turned it around and got a good job. Before anyone wants to make any wisecracks, driving a bus is a good job and you can make a comfortable living doing it. My uncle did it until his dying day...at least he went doing something he loved. I watched that hit on Antonio Brown during the 2015 playoffs live as it happened. I totally thought he broke AB's neck and wondered if his life wasn't going to be in trouble, or maybe if he was going to face paralysis. That was pretty scary. Football isn't a game for wimps. Play hard. That's fine. But what VB did throughout his career wasn't playing hard. He was flat dirty and malicious. I really wish the Bengals and the NFL had done more to keep him off the field since obviously the small fines and suspensions were not getting his attention.

Burrfect was singled out and the referees held a grudge btw that Steelers game was fixed so the Bengals wouldn’t move on bc Pittsburgh had a huge fan base where Cincinnati didn’t have an eighth of Pittsburghs fan base. The hits in the last drive of that playoff game against Pittsburgh were all 100% clean. Their season was ruined by the comprised referees. The NFL screwed Burfect who was suspended for 12 games while the pervert QB in Cleveland is allowed to sexually assault over 50 women, Robert KRAFT can go and exploit an illegal immigrant forced to work at a rub and tug and he gets no punishment, and the wife beating knock out artist ray rice would’ve been able to come back to the nfl if the ravens needed him but since he was getting old and slow they let him go, then there’s too many scumbag players & coaches to mention who did things so much worse than VB who was forced out the nfl bc the close relationships between Pittsburgh owner and nfl commissioner. Vontez belongs in the hall of fame and his poor “victim” AB belongs in prison for his hobbies of beating the mother of his children in front of them but that turd looking piece of 💩was extended for millions by the raiders who he screwed over bc he couldn’t wear his old helmet bc of nfl standards so he literally burnt up about 30 million dollars by voiding his contract but I digress VB deserved an award for knocking the snot out of wife beating AB.

@@azovandy14.88 except Burfict's actions *on* the field were the problem, whereas the situations *you* named (nice whataboutism, by the way) were mainly off-field problems. Burfict was violent, and I don't need you to characterize his hits for me. I watched the video myself and made my own judgments about what a disgusting football player this guy was. He clearly enjoyed hurting people, continually and blatantly attempted to injure players on the field, and should have been kicked out years earlier than he was. Burfict in the hall of fame would be a blight on the sport. Nice job defending trash though. Lots of people want to watch hard football, but *clean* football. I guess you're alright with the game being as injurious as possible. Good for you. We like different football. I honestly hate the defenses of him, he wasn’t a hard nose player, he was a dirty player! There are plenty of feared defensive players who never had to resort to his crap, also, if you actually look into his career that style of play actually hurt him more than it helped him. On top of the fact that it just got him in trouble all the time, it led to more injuries because it’s an extremely reckless style of play. He could’ve been a really solid linebacker but he completely stunted his development with his dirty and reckless play. There’s no one to blame for his failure but him, don’t defend Vontaze Burfict, learn from his mistakes.

Another thing not factored into what was essentially forfeited pay by Burfict was him falling off draft boards due to his benching in college and horrible combine performance. Stop with that nonsense. People saying this clearly don’t know how concussions work. I’ve had two concussions and I’m perfectly fine. Besides that, how many other players in the league have had concussions just as bad if not worse than AB? He’s the only player in the league that gets that excuse and it’s complete bulls**t. Vontaze was a dirty player sure, but everything AB has gotten himself into now is his own fault

While the hit probably contributed to AB's decline in mental health, the dude has always been unstable and doing shitty things. We both loved and hated him in Tempe, as he was so often both the most advantageous and detrimental player on the field for the Sun Devils. Incredible play followed right up with a dangerous and out of control one. We always had to hold our collective breath anytime an opposing player went out of bounds because there was a chance he would come out of nowhere and clean someone out. I actually met him one time while I was shooting a documentary on ASU, and he was, by far, the most intimidating of any of the players we had talked to. Really a great talent which was most apparent when seeing him play in person. Yet there were times I thought he might paralyze an opposing player or worse. Scary dude.

Not quite, looking at all his contracts he made about 55 million in the NFL. Lost 5.5 million in fines/missed games, leaving him with nearly 50 million dollars. That being said, his net worth is only estimated at 12 million, he likely spent a lot of his money during his years playing because he thought that the gravy train would keep rolling. If he's responsible he'll be ok with that money but at least he isn't living Peyton Manning's life, he could've been but he was too scummy to play respectfully.
