@@joshprew VY's struggles in the passing game were due to his release mechanics. He always brought the ball to his hip before releasing, a common mechanic learned young. At his highest bouts of competition in CFB it got exposed and he had to play from behind, but his athleticism, composure, and playmaking ability shined and led to many comeback wins even in the NFL, his release mechanics were the reason he got behind. Had he fixed and sped up his release he wouldve gone from "comeback kid" to "dominant." Everything considered from trading McNair and acquiring Kerry Collins, the unnecessary quotes to the media, and the police crisis negotiators do you really think that staff prioritized developing Vince?

I remember Vince saying in an interview, that on the playgrounds and vacant lots in Houston, he played a lot of sports as a kid. And that some of the other kids were better athletes than him. How many amazing talents never get a shot at college and professional success due to lack of opportunity. Sadly, many of the best athletes to ever play are unknown legends.

I grew up in Houston. It is a literal mecca for young talent of all sports, it's truly unbelievable. I completely agree with you, so many athletes have professional potential within them, but lack of resources/lack of drive, or both, leave alot to slip through the cracks.

Look what happened to these players after their covers, none were the same. 2014 aka Madden 25 Adrian Peterson (Vikings) 2015 Richard Sherman (Seahawks), 2016 Odell Beckham Jr (Giants), 2019 Antonio Brown (Steelers), 2020 Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs). Hopefully Mahomes can bounce back again like what Brown was able to do by going to the Bucks and who knows what Beckham is going to be like now that he is with the Rams and Stafford but there are only a handful of players that made the cover and went on to continue to be a beast and/or win the Super Bowl(s).

In an alternate reality, Drew Brees signs with Miami instead of NO. NO drafts Young with 2nd pick in 2006 draft. Young has a much longer and successful career under Sean Payton. Nick Saban stays in Miami with a Superbowl ring or two, and Alabama still sucks.

Chris Johnson rushed for almost 10,000 yards and 64 total td's in his career. He had 6 seasons over 1,000 yards, one of them over 2,000. He had a very good career and imo he shouldn't be considered someone who "fell off". He had one GREAT season and 6 very good seasons

As a Giants fan I remember how livid I was when they blew a 21-0 lead to Vince Young's Titans. That time Mathias Kiwanuka literally had Vince Young wrapped up in his arms and for whatever reason let him go leading to a 1st down and I'm pretty sure the Titans did score on that drive.

Vince Young was a great dual threat quarterback who was the greatest quarterback in Texas history, but Jeff Fisher ruined his NFL career. If he had played with the right coach, he would’ve had a longer career in the NFL.

He could not even keep a job at UT where he was considered a God. They didn't even want his ego there. It was not fisher. I know at times it's the coach but moving to another team and getting kicked after 1 bad game means there is a bigger problem and it's not the coach. Unfortunately, players like Vince Young just didn't want to put in the work....Scouts and Head Coaches knew about his lack of prep and inability to stay in the pocket, check off and read defenses...that requires a lot of "homework" at the NFL Level... but in the modern era of WIN WIN WIN, they hope that they can get 2 good seasons themselves and lock in their own lucrative contracts.

Yet, the NFL is currently filled with guys that are just like this. Cam Newton won a MVP with those traits. Truth is truth, and VY wasn't the professional he needed to be, but it's not as if his support system was there to encourage him. Fisher made it personal and it would have been difficult for anyone under those circumstances.
