I've missed the students in my school as well, we started back this week with a bubble of kids doing full-time as they are children of keyworker and vulnerable children. This week we will have 2 part-time bubbles starting on both sites (one doing Mon, Tues and one doing Thurs, Fri) Not all of the students in my class are back till this week as one is in another bubble and two have decided not to come back yet. I work in a school as a Learning Support Assistant for children with Cerebral Palsy and other motor disorders.

Why can’t she have cereal? Why ask her if you are just going to give her what you want? It’s probably frustrating and confusing to her. Just present what you want to give her and I bet she is fine. Seems like she is disappointed the other way. Not trying to judge or be mean, I am honestly curious about the logic. Thank you!
@fatheringautism3 жыл бұрын
Because we are teaching her communication every minute of every day. There are yes and no answers to requests in the real world. She is first taught that using her communication device is how she get what she wants. Then we have to teach her that you don’t get everything you ask for and “no” is an ok answer to a request. If yes was always the answer imagine the results of not getting what you want when you’ve always been told no. As far as the cereal...it’s basically nothing but sugar including the milk and it causes her to be even hungrier later as she burns through it quickly. We have also reduced her dairy intake because it affects the absorption of her medication and we end up with sleepless nights thus rough days.

Leslie Hyde. Abbie parents only want her eating one bowl a day because the ones she likes are high in sugar and they have started trying to cut her sugar intake.
@addanner843 жыл бұрын
Nothing usually bothers me on this channel ever but what's so bad about cereal for a snack? Worried she won't want it for breakfast tomorrow? Why give her the option and then turn it down like she asked for dessert or a chocolate bar...or dunkin. I would be frustrated too if I were Abby about that. She repeatedly asked for it. What's the harm? Worried it will ruin her appetite? Give her a smaller portion. But knowing her appetite, nothing will ruin it lol
@alinaporter38463 жыл бұрын
It’s about the sugar intake. If she has a bowl in the AM then she can’t have it for a snack. They have been working on limiting her sugar sense the old house. For Ab sugar and ice cream later in the day effects her sleeping. They have also cut back on donuts...only twice a week. You also have to remember that throughout her day she works for “edible for re-enforcers”...a lot of the time that is candy because it is highly re-enforcing for her. 😊 Children on the spectrum are either too picky and never eat OR they eat anything and everything and are NEVER full. By this default they are more susceptible to health issues such a diabetes and obesity OR malnutrition depending on the child’s habits.
@livewiiiiire Жыл бұрын
She does have cereal for snack sometimes (like dry cheerios) but her usual cereal is Cinnamon Toast Crunch, which has a ton of sugar and they try to encourage her to have healthier snacks (since they have to bribe her with cookies and doughnuts so much)

When children learn to communicate do you do everything they say and give them everything they request? Of course not. As parents we teach all children that “no” needs to be an acceptable answer, that compromise is necessary in basic human interaction, and that we don’t get everything we ask for.
