I too am a semi lazy cooker and I have been cooking my mac and cheese like this since I've been in high school. Why wait for a pot of water to boil but also why waste so much water.

Dried, not fresh, pasta in a pan covered with water. Bring to at least 180F and cook till done. Boiling is NOT required. It! Works!

Cooking pasta in as little water as possible was invented by any single guy with one small pan and a box of macaroni but I'm glad honest to god culinary geniuses came to the same conclusion as we did while pausing Madden for 15 minutes.
