Yeah, I keep pushing back with these companies that people don't want to pay monthly after they've bought the product, but it's part of a common revenue model. Not a fan either.

Can you show a video of taking it off to recharge?? My instrument to pop it open appears to be broken by someone 😒

I find that I don't need a tool, I just gently pull it forward and up from the bottom and it comes off the wall mount. So, I suppose, someone could just take it and walk away but fortunately I live in a pretty safe neighborhood so it hasn't happened!

How long does the battery last?

Umm... maybe a year or so? Once in a blue moon I notice the battery's low, pop it out, and recharge it overnight.
