MANGU : Boiled mashed plantains can be traced back to Africans in the Congo region who were brought to the island during the slave trade. The original word was something akin to "mangusi" and referred to almost any root vegetable that was boiled and mashed.[2] Fu-fu is a dish brought over by African slaves into the Caribbean and parts of Latin America. Before cassava was introduced plantains and yams where boiled and mashed with milk, butter and the water it was boiled in. Today this dish goes by mangú in the Dominican Republic, fu-fu de platanó in Cuba and Panama, hudut in Belize, bolón in Ecuador, eto in Ghanaian, cayeye and cabeza de gato in Colombia. The most likely explanation is that this is a word of African origins[3], as there is no contemporary evidence of an American origin for the word.

Well I have read and heard that mangú words was created after american soldiers were in the DR during american invasion between 1916-1924, when they tried the mashed plantains they said " man this is good, and because of DR is not a English speaker country they understood mangú that that was that dish name after that.

Pastelón my favorite food from Dominican republic nothing is better then it. My mom always make it in party's I'm mostly the one who eats it more than anyone but sometimes I don't eat more because sometimes we there's to much people I don't get how much I even want. I love it because the chicken and cheese that my mom puts is the best thing ever I even like mash platano Maduro only sometimes if it's good for me.

@@NorberisR seven different meats imply seven different animals, if so, which ones? Maybe you meant seven different cuts of meats? As far as I know outside of cattle, pork and Chicken very few other meats are consumed in DR. But even if you add lamb, duck or game animal that adds up to a questionable six.

The history of the PASTELON began in New York City. When Puerto Ricans and Italians lived among each other in New York City and Puerto Ricans were introduced to the Lasagna. Puerto Ricans made a lasagna with MADUROS instead of pasta and then brought it to the Island when they returned.

I'm an Indian who loves cooking and my girl (Dominican) likes a lot of the food. For me, I feel personally the ingredients are very similar but the preparation is extremely different. I like a lot of flavor in my food so I'm not sure if she would like it but I realized that the Dominican food is similar just without the immense flavor of a lot of spices that gives a spice kick but flavor as well. Hopefully she likes it but lets see, the blandness isn't usually what I enjoy but Dominican food hits the spot when you are hungry. But daily foods it may be extremely hard so hopefully we can adjust to the differences and hopefully she enjoys the additional spice and flavor.

@trapbois4573 Really glad to hear about an Indian who appreciates our culture & women & doesn't discriminate us. Always loved seeing other Hispanics, Europeans & Asians mixing with our people. A lot of our culture is actually from Asia, specifically from South & Southeast Asia (many spices, plantains, rice, guandules, etc.). The FIRST people to fry plantains were actually Indians, I believe from present-day Kerala, if I’m not mistaken. Blacks constantly steal the cultures of others, like how they stole plantains which are actually native to Southeast Asia, & were introduced to them by Berbers/Arabs (North & East African regions) then by the Spanish & Portuguese (West & Central African regions). We are often attacked by Black Anglos because they believe our culture is an offshoot of Haiti’s culture, when it’s actually the other way around. We predate them 269 years, the entire island was originally ours. Whenever we speak the truth or refuse to identify racially as Black (MOST Dominicans at 45% are triracial, aka Pardos/Índios, 18% are White & 2% are Mestizo), they call us “racists” & say a bunch of nonsensical bullsh*t. Anyways, really glad to hear of an Indian with one of our own. Hope everything’s going awesome with your relationship & that she can teach you a lot more about our culture & you can teach her more about yours, especially Indian seasoning🙏🏽🇩🇴❤️🇮🇳

@Lindamorena wrong….. “mofongo” as it’s known (el mofongo de plátano), originated in Puerto Rico & is generally enjoyed in PR, the DR & Cuba. Only the cooking preparation originated from the African continent (specifically West Africa), but mofongo itself was first elaborated in the Caribbean region of the Americas: in Puerto Rico. Plátanos weren’t even abundant in W. Africa nor are they nativars of the region. Same story with tostones & mangú. Just the cooking style of smashing fried or boiled fruits/vegetables is from Sub-Saharan Africa.

Mondongo is from Spanish origin and its just a renaming of a spanish dish called "callos a la madrileña". Look it up, its literally the same dish.
