That was pretty neat. You never think about that and you never see that on walk-throughs of other boats. thank you so much

What makes this a brilliant video is that you haven't overlaid it with a daft music track. So many great video's are ruined by needless music. 100% top marks my friend.

I wondered about this in another Nordhaven video and wondered why more owners did not run on the wing engine more just to give them a run. Most of the time you go with tide so why not run the wing then. My boat had twin engines but I would often run one engine if on a quite canal as it would be just above tick over. The tricky bit was steering as I had a center rudder and would then only get wash down one side of it, fine one way but not the other. I kept my boat on the Thames and suffered from fresh water growth, take her on a sea trip and it all fell off. But the sea growth started went back on the Thames and that fell off, the cycle continued. On lift out it only took a quick jet wash off and she was ready for anti foul. As an extra precaution I dropped anodes off the side connected to a grounded cable, especially if I was surrounded by boats taking on shore power.

I do keep promising to myself that I would use the wing engine more but it never seems to be the right time. I think if I knew I was going to be early for any reason I would use it instead of the main but there are certain issues in doing that. The stabilisers are driven hydraulically from the main engine so you would loose that feature if the main was switched off. Power generation isn’t too much of a problem as we have a large inverter and a generator so I don’t have that as an excuse. All I can say is that it’s never the right time - our speed drops to under 5 knots on wing alone and I can’t see the point in running the wing with the main still on so the wing just gets used 20 mins here and there... I have certainly used it more than the previous owner. As far as underwater growth goes, switching from fresh to saltwater is great at killing that off. I just don’t spend any time in fresh water in order to do that.

@@Bloater Make it a habit to flash up the wing engine everytime going to and from the dock as your back up. Plus maybe make a day of it driving mostly on the wing engine as a practice day. It will be a good excuse to get away from the dock.

Great vid. Really enjoying the maintenance videos...MVFreedom 2004 43' starts up his wing engine when leaving port. Just to know it's working, give it running time and it's fired up/available should anything go wrong with the main. Just a thought! :)

Think the wing engine also powers the hydraulic pump for the thrusters too, which is the principle reason for running, I think

Love your bridge screens Whats the set up you've gone for there? Are they 4 independent computers hooked up to screens with nmea bridge connecting them all?
@Bloater4 жыл бұрын
Jesse, not so, in the pilot house (from left to right) we have a classic Raymarine E120, then 2x touchscreens connected to a Vasari PC computer running Timezero and then a separate Vasari PC running OpenCPN. I’ve had all 3 Touchscreens running off the Timezero PC but I prefer having a separate backup navigation system so I settled with using 2. The E120 and the TZ PC are both connected to the NMEA2k network so either can read sensor inputs and also operate the autopilot. We have 2x screens on the flybridge and these exactly mirror the centre two pilothouse screens.

@@Bloater Nice to see you again on your boat, I remember helping you on your trip from Portishead to Portland for the lift out. Your diving seems to help overcome the problem, Did you try coating the props with anything when it was out of the water in Portland?
@Bloater3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewfisher4844 Hi Andrew, it is very nice to hear from you. I hope all is well with you. You weren’t driving that Ever Given were you (only joking)! I ended up coating the props with International Trilux for underwater gear. Very small tin for a lot of money - but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it does the job. The gear mechanism was liberally sprayed with some expensive adhesive grease and then coated with lots of waterproof grease. It hasn’t seemed to helped much though. With lockdown I haven’t seen the boat this year yet so I know what is waiting for me underneath!

If you can let her dry out there's a high water slip on spring tide in Watermouth Harbour will hold her about 2 foot off the floor. If that helps.

There is unfortunately no way Wanderlust can take the ground. The stabiliser fins are the problem. I even explored the possibility of a local dry dock but the boatyard took one look at a photo of the hull and the value of the boat and ran a mile.
@chrisfs1502 жыл бұрын
Silly question.. but you could use an ordinary home use jet wash to clean the prop etc?
@Bloater2 жыл бұрын
The jetwash equipment that boatyards use is far better than the kit you can buy in a DIY store… I assume you mean cleaning the prop when the boat is lifted out? You couldn’t possibly jetwash when under the water that is just not feasible on so many fronts.

Been under boats scrapping far to many times! I feel for ya
@aquillanobile4 жыл бұрын
So why can't they make a plastic cover for both propellers when the boat is not being used for long periods? It's easier to clean the propellers after every trip and then you put the plastic covers on. Just a thought.

Have you tried Prop speed paint ?
@Bloater4 жыл бұрын
I’ve not used Prop Speed and I know other Nordhavn owners do use that. I used International Trilux. I should have mentioned that last lift out was 13 months ago. The main problem is the gear teeth in the folding prop and for that we use grease not paint.
