The 2023 summer cruise is about to start for 'Wanderlust' - our Nordhavn 47. We are based in the UK and we need to get Wanderlust ready for this year's boating season. It all starts with some DIY engine maintenance, a few odd jobs and a shakedown cruise...

When you take off the Diesel Filter, put a polythene bag around the filter when taking it off so it catches any fluid from it

Big waves? That to me sounds like a wrong call by the skipper when reading the weather. I try to avoid them if I can but sometimes you can’t.

Enjoy the videos keep them coming. I was moored up opposite you at Haslar Marina on Thursday 20th July in my boat RUSH, you were busy launching your tender for a test run so did not want to intrude on your day. The boat looks in great condition so all your hard work must be paying off. Safe travels.

I didn't see you close the valve at the extractor. I was imagining the generator pumping the oil through it while you were up top starting it :

Well done. I always prefill the fuelfilters. Just finished a 1000nm trip to Stromboli in the Med - 300nm single handed back to Bari. Its the 2nd year with the boat and its time for longer travels now....

You are not the first to state that they pre-fill the filters. I certainly shall be doing that from now on!

Just a wild idea. What's to stop you bring a power wash lance down to blow off the crud. Its only a mechanical trigger on the handle. The small Karcher I have for years now has a low pressure nozzle. I know you wouldn't like to point them directly at the like of stern glands or other vitals. One of the smaller petrol ones might be ideal as no electricity to adjust your heart rate under water. Give those barnacles something to think about. Handy on the keel cooler too. I'm not sure if the lance would propel you cartoon like across the marina. It's many a long year since I had a bottle on my back.

I don’t know how powerful a jetwash we would be when underwater, probably not very effective. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to operate underwater - but the biggest problem would be the zero visibility.

Hi, yes. I’ve got the next few parts in the pipeline. It just takes time and I’m still on the boat. I normally do all the editing at home. Thanks for watching.

Good day sir, lovely boat. In your video of you launching your boat after some bottom paint, you said you had to Hire captain to move your boat to another spot, is this due to the size or your boat or requirement of the marina you are moving to?
@Bloater

Hi, hiring a helping hand was simply to assist me as I didn’t want to sail single handed. I know I could undergo the trip without help but if anything went wrong I would struggle just by myself. The river Hamble and the Solent are extremely busy waterways. Hiring a helping hand was simply for my reassurance.

Hello, new tour channel, love ur non script videos, I have a question, Do y’all still work or just live off you tube, My wife and I current,t live in a freight liner traveling the USA,Canada. We’re thinking of selling our Rv, and buying a nordhavn, I wan5 to do the great loop but NORDHAVN really not good for that, My question is hope I have enough $$$ to live. Yes, we’re retired and have a total of $ 6888 per month of disposal income, our bills r low, we have and extra SBS Retirement funds to pull out if needed to buy a boat, we really don’t want a payment , except insurance and the other monthly things u need, I guess my question is, how is it

Hi, actually I don’t work but my wife is able to work part time remotely. My total KZbin earnings that I have achieved don’t come close to paying even my annual insurance premium! I do believe that you should never borrow money in order to purchase a boat. Sorry I really can’t help with any suggestions to assist you in your cruising quest.

What do you think of your Nordhavn in terms of quality and reliability and how do you compare it to other brands you may have owned or know a great deal about?
@Bloater
@Bloater Жыл бұрын
This Nordhavn is my 7th boat, each one being a different brand. What I can say is that a boat is made up from a bunch of components crafted together to form the overall package. Nordhavn use very high quality components and therefore the failure rate has been very low. However when something does go wrong it is therefore usually expensive as you are replacing quality items. The ease of repair is very good as everything is easy accessible and installed properly. The overall effect is that Nordhavns are very reliable. I hope this answers your question.

@@Bloater Thank you for your reply as I'm considering the possibility of a used Nordhavn in the 40-47ish range. I watched another person's Nordhavn video where they used the wing engine to assist in slow speed tighter spaces like marina fairways and slips. This seems both clever and allows one to regularly use the wing engine.
@Bloater
@Bloater Жыл бұрын
@@robhowen I’m not so sure that this works that well in practice. Perhaps in the video that you watched the boat didn’t have bow and stern thrusters. On my boat I only have wing engine controls in the wheelhouse and not repeated on the flybridge. Also I’m not sure the separation of the two engines is sufficient to give a good turning force. And lastly if the wing engine is put in and out of gear whilst the boat is moving backwards then the folding prop could go into ‘overdrive’ mode and it all gets a bit confusing. I wouldn’t even try the approach since I already have good control with my thrusters.
