Thank you all! The instrument is a nyckelharpa. The song is about a maiden who falls in love with a man who already loves someone else and decides to end her life to meet him in the afterlife instead. Rough English translation: When I was in my eighteenth year There was a beautiful boy who fell onto my mind Thee,I thought,to own forever But this my thought instantly vanished There was another maiden in his embrace He likens her to a blooming flower All though I hold my father and mother so dear And siblings and friends who loved me here This love does go above anything else

This is phenomenal! It sounds like it was produced in a studio. I can't believe it's just a solo voice and a single instrument. This recording could be used on a soundtrack as is with no mixing or additional polish needed.
