A new Viking song that goes straight into Norse Mythology! It's the longest and most powerful Viking song that I made so far, and we're one step closer again to the video of "1 Hour of Viking Music" that I promised. =) Hey, if you already know what the title means feel yourself high-fived by me, and if you can pronounce it then feel double high-fived!^^
Jötunheimr is the home world of the Giants from Norse Mythology (one of the Nine Worlds, more known worlds are for example Midgard and Asgard). Jötunheimr is definitely one of the lesser known worlds commonly, but for me it was always one of the most fascinating. Therefore since I started making those songs that are focused on Vikings and Norse Mythology I always knew that I would do a song specifically about Jötunheimr one day. And here it is!^^
Ah yes, the voice that you hear in the song is my own, and believe it or not: It's not edited. It's a raw recording, only hall effect was added.^^ People already asked me in the song „Einherjer" whether I edited my voice to make it deeper, but it's naturally like that. Maybe I'll show you once. xD
Also, adding this note again because I want no misunderstandings: (I know many people are very fond of Viking culture -- I'm one of them^^)
People were asking me how would I know what kind of music the Vikings really made, since they are gone since centuries. But I don't claim to know that, what I do is writing ABOUT Vikings.^^ I don't know what they played 1000 years ago, I simply compose music that I personally see fitting to tell tales about them. So if there are Fantasy elements or Film music-like parts included -- that's why.^^ I mostly try to keep it traditional though, as well as my knowledge about it lets me do that. =)
Composed and arranged 100% by myself as always, on keyboard.
The artwork was created by this great artist:

Jotunheimen is a mountain range located in the heart of Norway. In English it means "The home of the Giants". The snow never melts here, and the peaks are the tallest in Scandinavia.

Science! If a giant did exist, their vocal chords would be much larger. In result their voice would be so low it almost wouldn't be audible to human ears. The random snippets of deep giant voice in this video is accurate to what it may sound like. Well done sir

That sounds pretty cool. Out of curiosity, how does that work? Like, I would think that larger vocal cords would mean a loud, booming voice.
@emeraldblue6124
@emeraldblue6124 7 жыл бұрын
hmm isn't it similar with the humpback whales? they can have pretty deep voices that ya think would boom loudly but you need machines in order to hear their singing depending on the tones and pitch of their song. Sure you can hear them in general but even they have pitches that make it difficult for the human ear to hear. I would like to say the same with the giants but there is always the possibly of me being incorrect. Perhaps it all depends on tone and the sonic perception range that differs from human to giant since we both have our own pitches as well. Ive heard certain singers that can sing in a very deep voice and they got quieter the deeper they went.

According to Norse Mythology, the Jotnar, or Giants, were the dark equals of the gods, linked to Loki the trickster god and frequently trolled the Aesir. A far cry from the giants you find in today's fantasy, these were powerful badasses who not only could stomp around and crush things, but were super intelligent and pulled all sorts of magical stunts. Cool stuff.

One great dark forest, the corners of which seep between the different realms of truth. Tall, dark, and ominous pines that beckon and sway in the whistling wind, with thick, sturdy roots that anchor the land to the frozen earth, with branches seen from many realms... Music that spirits children away in the night, to lands yet unseen by men. They return in the morning, with tales both great and fearful, telling how they've ruled the frozen wastes of the North, battled eldritch creatures and danced with graceful elms. Parents that scoff and confiscate 'Narnia,' but here is where Adrian's music takes us.

I read an article recently because I wanted to know who would have won between the Vikings and the Spartans. It said that while both were fierce warriors, the spartans rigid battle style would ultimately be their undoing, whereas vikings who were used to travelling all over the known world, adapted their strategies according to where they were fighting and were much more able to think on their feet. Basically, Vikings rule. Just saying.

The misty forest gave a sense of foreboding, that the warrior could not disagree with. But, he was a Viking; he would not run just because of the tales women tell while at the spindle. He removed his helmet, setting it down in front of him and drew his sword and a rag, wiping off the dark ichors of the last fight. Thump. He heard it, looking up. It was a loud sound, as if a tree fell in the distance. He quietly returned to work on his blade, hand gripping the hilt tightening. CRACK! He heard the splintering of a great oak. Closer. He stood, placing his helmet on as a dark shape towered over him in the mist, it was massive, at least as tall as a house. Two piercing white eyes illuminated the fog, watching him. “Norseman...” It rumbled. “These woods are not your place.” “I shall not be cowed with words!” He declared back, sword in hand, “A brave one too...” The giant mused, cocking it's head. “And meat. There is good meat on you...” It crouched down to get a better look, gripping a tree, the wood straining under it's crushing grip. “What brings you to this cursed wood?” The viking weighed his odds. He had the arrow wounds from the last fight, his shield had been smashed, and his body ached. He smiled grimly. “Victory, or Valhalla.”

It's for an upcoming album so it's not available yet. I'm making a full-length album with Viking music only, this is the 3rd song I have finished for it. So it will take a long time before the album will be done and released, I need to make around 10 more songs.

Nurk0m0rath -er, --ar, -or are pronounced when present (in Swedish) and are plurals if used whit a noun. I´m not 100% sure, butis is how I have heard Jötunheimr being pronounced (by modern people).

Aren't the horned helmets a romantic Victorian rewrite of the Norse rapists and butchers? I say rapists and butchers with all due respect as my Great Grandmother was from Norway

+Dennis Cat Yepp. They didn't have horned helmets, although there is some indication that they may have used horned helmets in rituals, but definitely not for battle.^^ The picture here is actually a fan artwork from Skyrim, so don't take the image too serious. xD

+Dennis Cat One should always look at what came before all of the wars. Norse pagans were peaceful and only became defensive when new values were being introduced by force and the ancestral ways of life were threatened. This happened all over the world. For example, the Ashanti culture of West Africa was a Goddess centered culture and was therefore peaceful, before they were forced to arm themselves to defend against colonial troops and the missionaries.The same can be said of the Native Americans and the Aborigines. The Goddesses of pagan spirituality also went through 'changes' over time, as the warrior cults became dominant in the world. Some were incorporated into new, all-male pagan pantheons, while others such as Medusa for example, were demonized or cast out, much the same way as Loki and Hel were by the monks who re-wrote the legends. History can be read in many ways, and the rarest is the truth, as it is always written in the eye of the beholder. Therefore, Vikings became known as 'pirates' when they attacked Churches and pillaged monasteries, as in fact it was the Christians who had dispossessed pagans in the first place. Drake became a 'pirate' in the eyes of the Catholic Church, because he plundered all of their slaver's outposts and the new colonies in the Americas. It is hard to call any side in a war, the 'good' or 'evil' side of it, yet the facts are simple and that is that before all of the wars , there was only the love of the Goddess and God of Nature. It doesn't help any to generalize and infer that all pagans from the Northern lands are as you say, rapists and butchers. What other proofs do you have of the Norse being such folk?

Look up Asatru or Odinists. Im an Odinist myself. Today we are not "vikings". but we are Viking. the modern viking era is returning. and fast! The real ones of us anyway. To be "viking" means to have the beliefs and mental thought system our ancestors had. To live our lives in the so called "modern" world in a way that duplicates our ancestors ways with a blend of today. Its not an easy life. but the gods dont favor those who take the easy path anyway. good luck.
