This will save so much time and is so much easier than the traditional way of making mashed potatoes. Thanks =)

Another great slow cooker dish for Thanksgiving is turkey stuffing in a slow cooker. It's safer, easier better for bird timing and you wouldn't think it wasn't cooked in the bird. Stir the stuffing once in a while, brown bits on the outside gets incorporated, tastes like the real McCoy. Pour a bit of Turkey drippings into the slow cooker near the end for that real stuffing flavor, stays warm for hours.

Made these the night I saw your video. Cut back the stock by half and just added a small amount of milk when they were done. I had russets so that's what I used, perfection! I don't know if I'll ever do this another way again, it was soooo much easier than having to hang around keeping an eye on them.

When I am making mashed potatoes for a huge crowd (40+) this is how I make mine. Half "real" potatoes ,half instant potatoes. You can't tell there is instant potato flakes in them. Sure saves a lot of time and energy peeling all those potatoes.
@noreenskitchenchannel8 жыл бұрын
O don't peel potatoes. I leave them on. Good fiber and nutrition.

I peel them. With so many small kids around it's better to peel them.

This worked out great, even with a little too much liquid the instant flakes fixed that quickly and they were delicious! I hardly ever use milk in my mashed potatoes and almost always just use butter and sour cream, but this cream cheese was amazing. Especially with the garlic!

I love doing this. one thanksgiving I didn't have enough pans so I have 3 crocks and I tried that and other things like sweet potatoes and green bean casserole. they can out great. thank you for sharing that great idea and how to save it. since I'm going to dehydrate potatoes soon. do you think I could it this way with only the broth so they have a better flavor? I just worry and how consistent they would be in the tray.

Thank you for this. I will pick up a bag of the potato flakes. I have to admit....I'm a mashed potato snob. To the point where when we eat out, I ask if they are 'real' potatoes or instant. BUT! I hear what you are saying and to my pantry, a bag of GOOD quality potato flakes makes a lot of sense. Thank you for bringing me to my 'senses'. lol
@noreenskitchenchannel8 жыл бұрын
I understand. I always have to stress that potato flakes are real potatoes, just potatoes that have been cooked, mashed and dehydrated. They are a great thing to have on hand and nothing makes better gnocci than instant potato flakes! If you get a good brand like Idahoan, the only brand I have used for 20 years then you are good to go. They have a very long shelf life if you put them in a sealed container. In a pinch, you can use them for so many things! Glad I could help!

Thanks for sharing, this would definitely save stove top space lol Is there a secret to making creamy mashed potatoes out of your home canned potatoes ? Mine come out with little chunks or lumps and cant seem to get them smooth and creamy.
@noreenskitchenchannel8 жыл бұрын
I don't can potatoes because I think they are a risk. I do not like the taste of canned potatoes at all. I don't think they were intended to be mashed. Best for roasting or stews etc.

Hi Noreen, can these be frozen. I have to work on Thanksgiving, so I don't have much time to cook.
@noreenskitchenchannel8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I also have a recipe for Duchess potatoes, which freeze a little better. I put a link at the end of the video. They have egg added and you can freeze them and then pop them in the oven frozen to heat through and brown. You can use this technique to have great mashed potato side for your Thanksgiving that you can make ahead.

If you don't have potato flakes on hand, can't you just cook out the extra liquid? Reduce it?
@noreenskitchenchannel6 жыл бұрын
No that won't work. You will need the potato flakes in order to take up the extra liquid. Or don't put as much in from the beginning.

how does it work with russet? bumper crop of potatoes this year we have about 100 lbs.

should do fine but I would peel those. The skins are a bit thick.
