I’d say the fact his parents were both teachers gives a unique insight. Does he need to explain the truth or how he came to realize it?

That's how he knew teachers weren't the real heroes. The real ones will tell you they are glorified babysitters.

@Sisyphean1775 always been a big fan of norm. He was pro-life but is now dead. It's the hypocrisy at the end that really bothered me.

The teacher's "treadmill" remark was obviously a dig at Norm's weight. He deflected it masterfully, of course, but no one realized his weight gain was a side effect from his undisclosed cancer treatment. Norm was a unique individual who lived life on his own terms. I miss him.

This was years before he got sick. It is 100% because he keeps carrying on about teachers and she can’t take it.

I thought the treadmill comment was because Norm kept coming back the the hypocrisy of teachers believing they are actual heros...like he just kept walking or going over too much but gotta love how Norm is so honest and piercing with his wit..."I've seen treadmills you wouldn't understand...."

No intention to pry into private matters here, but according to a documentary by Ben Hope, this piece may have to do with Norm’s father, a teacher, forcing the young Norm to befriend a mentally challenged classmate of his.
