An interesting thing about gen 4 Arceus is that it was actually EV locked. Because it was only ever distributed at level 100 and you couldn't EV train level 100 Pokemon prior to gen 5, the most you could get for Arceus was 100 EVs in five stats with the vitamins. Despite this, it was STILL too overpowered
@EvilApple5675 ай бұрын
It wasn't originally banned for being op though, it was because the sim at the time couldn't implement its EV restrictions. I'm not sure if when it was "tested" in certain tournaments later on and kept banned it was EV locked either, so while it's undoubtedly incredibly powerful and versatile in Ubers it's hard to say whether it would've necessitated a DPP AG with a proper timely release or if it's more a fringe case like NFE banned ADV UU where the playerbase overall just enjoyed the tier better without it (and its 16 other forms).
@Snagavitch5 ай бұрын
@@EvilApple567from my understanding and research it seems like the community thought it took away rather than added to the tier. that gen 1 counter quirk is also the reason gengar sometimes runs the move even though it's immune to normal- and fighting-type damage: if your opponent takes out one of your pokemon with a body slam or hyper beam, you can send in gengar to outspeed them and hit them with counter, which will calculate off of the move used last turn even though gengar wasn't the one who took the hit.

From what I can tell, the only correction needed for the gen 1 section is that Persian with slash is a guarenteed crit (aside from the 1/256 glitch which also applies to crits in addition to accuracy) because the crit fir high crit rate moves is: (base speed)/64 Instead of: (base speed)/512 This means that a pokemon in gen 1 only needs 65 base speed to get that (essentially) guaranteed crit with a move like slash

My favorite normal type has got to be Maushold. When it was first leaked I thought it was fake, because it really just looks like a generic mascot character rather than a pokemon, but it totally grew on me. Maybe because of that, or because of its gimmicky utility. One of my favorite maushold features is that its speed tier is just barely faster than ogrepon, latios and iron moth, and (with the exception of stone mask) population bomb gets them all in one go. Extra funny if one of them has a substitude that gets destroyed by the first two hits of population bomb, or tidied up. Beyond that, I'm a big fan of how Porygon-Z incidentally interacts with generational mechanics without ever having been deliberately designed for it. Terablast is a decent STAB move for a lack of better options, and because of adaptability, gets a nice boost in damage whether tera'd or not.

27:45 definitely agree, blissey has so much versatility. my personal favourite blissey set is one that i came up with for my stall team, it runs flamethrower, calm mind, toxic, soft boiled, which sounds odd but in my experience it's by far the best set for always making progress and not being punished for passive play. calm mind is a win condition that forces ppl to respect the bliss, flamethrower is good neutrally and hits steel types coming in on toxic, and toxic just generates so much value. on that team i also have a rest zap to 1v1 any suicune or milotic, along with a cursed bulky metagross set with rest and psych up to 1v1 snorlax who could come in on bliss, and i have heal bell elsewhere so bliss doesn't need aroma. also i can tell jim didn't play much gen 8 ou , it's pretty audacious to call teleport blissey a "cool buff" when the entire metagame was dominated by all the pivoting nonsense. hopefully in gen 10 my dreams will come true and they'll nerf the offensive pivots too so the game will be fun again this is my last also lol, but hisuian zoroark actually has a powerful niche in hackmons as the only setup sweeper that hard counters imposter without gutting itself. most sweepers just get copied by eviolite chansey and cooked, but zoroark can run a set with simple no retreat, boomburst and astral barrage for damage, then judgement with a dread plate which lets you hit enemy imposter while they can't touch you. obviously zoroark has a 510bst and is competing with stuff like av ice scales primal kyogre, and there are other ways to imposter proof your sweepers, but all of them are either less consistent or require you to drop important coverage, so zoroark is genuinely viable

I had an idea to give normal types a weaker stab and resistance to most other types, as in normal grants a small 1.2x boost to non-normal moves and 1.2x resistance to incoming attacks minus fighting (and normal). I feel like pivoting moves almost inherently go against the main principle of pokemon, which differentiates it from other games like hearthstone, in that you decide on your moves in a double-blind fashion. something like baton pass on jolteon would be useless, but I feel like most pokemon would still benefit from u-turn, volt switch etc
