Amazing video. So true. When you hear that strong independent tag, it puts you on the defense already. Rather than having a courtship, it turns into a competition. Great job young lady!

this was an absolutely amazing video. so beautifully said. and i can definitely relate to what you said about dating and being almost mocked for my “smartness” or just the way i carry myself. it definitely goes hand in hand with the “strong black woman” narrative that’s force fed to us in society.

I totally agree. Normalize not associating femininity with weakness, too! Black women deserve to be treated with gentleness and kindness just like all other women. Love this message, Maxine. I wish everyone could be in this same mindset as you. Thank you.

This was so great Maxine! I agree with you 1000%, we definitely need a balance between honing strength but then also receiving softness in return to feel supported and even seen. I’ve also seen too that within these series most black women find their support from their sisterhood/girl group! Every girl needs a tribe but also platonic supported friendships from men. Looking forward to more content girl!

Well I think your a smart black woman with human emotional turmoils sometimes. And I'm going to see your book review of "On Beauty' by Zadie Smith after I'm finish reading it

I definitely agree with this! The neglect that black women face because of the ‘strong’ trope doesn’t give us the room we need to fully be vulnerable. I also really like the way you structured this video. Keep going sis!!

I mean… y’all wanted it this way and haven’t come to your men with an official retraction….. you wanted to be hard like men and now that you’re tired you ask for the soft life. Black women need to start the process by treating your men better and stop having contempt for them. Stop addressing them with Shame, Insults, Guilt and general disrespect
