@@wolfibird So I got to take my first shot a few days ago, and it went super well! Planned Parenthood was a fantastic provider, they are very much operating in the 'informed consent' model (basically, if you come and ask for care, they provide it no questions asked really) and the clinician was knowledgeable on non-binary transition options and low dose T options. I live in a very queer town, so wasn't too surprised, but it was really nice to be able to talk openly about my ideas/goals. It was super expensive ($250 for apt + labs, and $30 for 3 months of T), but luckily after the first year the cost will go down a lot (don't have to get labs done as often). I feel really great about the decision and experience so far. I think my partners, family, and I all had a lot of misconceptions about what starting T would be like. Particularly, there was this intense fear of irritability or extremely high libido. Maybe that could be the case with higher doses, but mostly I've just felt more "solid" mentally the past few days. Obviously other sensory/physical changes that are a little sensitive to talk about here lol, but in the emotional realm, I was pretty surprised that it affected me so mildly and am really happy with the change. The emotional effects were what I was mainly curious about - I always wondered if I'd feel more "me" internally/mentally. I have a ways to go before I have a more solid idea of if it's right for me, but so far I'm super happy with how I feel :) Maybe I'll make some videos about it too someday. Watching folks on KZbin throughout my life has been so informative and is so important. So thanks again for sharing!

@wolfibird8 ай бұрын
Hi! I can’t give you an exact “guide” because everyone is in a different situation but this was the order I did things. Don’t feel like any of this is necessary for you. Your transition is your own. 1. Hair cut 2. Bought men’s clothing 3. Came out slowly to friends first then family. Chose a different name and started telling people I wanted to be referred to with they them pronouns. 4. Got a binder 5. Got my name changed at school Then a few years later -> 6. Started hormone blockers 7. Started low dose testosterone 8. Got my name and gender legally changed 9. Got new passport, birth certificate, and social security 10. Top surgery And now I’m here and I feel done with my transition :) it’s a long process but I am so happy I got to go through it.

I'm 18 and nonbinary and also really want to start t, have to do more research on if i want to do microdose or not but I was wondering if you experienced any differences in mood like increased anxiety or anger? Or how has that personally been for u?
@wolfibird9 ай бұрын
Hi! My anxiety went down after starting T because most of it surrounded my body and how people saw me, and now I am much more confident and less anxious about most things. However, I also had almost 2 years of therapy for that. I don't think I have been any angrier? I have never been an angry person, and I only get frustrated at things every so often, but never angry. If you already struggle with some anger, it might get worse with T, but I don't know much about that. The only changes to my emotions have been that I've been so much happier, more energetic, and confident, so all good things :) It's different for everyone, but it seems pretty similar that everyone feels a lot better once dysphoria goes down. Good luck figuring stuff out! The best advice I can give is to keep doing research, listening to others' experiences, and reach out to a doctor when you're ready to know more. Let me know if you have any other questions.

did you notice a change in your hair's curling pattern on t?
@wolfibird7 ай бұрын
I can't tell if it was due to growing up or t but my hair went from being mostly wavy/straight when short to very curly. It was pretty curly during 2020 before I cut it, but while being on T my hair got even curlier. This happened to my bf too.
@snapdragonslair4 күн бұрын
Well you can stop your periods without t- there are actually a few methods! Endometrial ablation Hysterectomy POP birth control Obviously just having high testosterone levels is probably the simplest, but I'll leave that out there for people who might be interested in stopping bleeding without going on male hormones.
@wolfibirdКүн бұрын
Thanks for adding this info! I'm definitelyy going to look into these options in the case of not having access to T or if I just don't want to pay for it/deal with it anymore. It can be a pain to get access to my stuff even though I've been prescribed it for over 3 years.
@snapdragonslair4 күн бұрын
Why did you pick sub-q over intramuscular? Why do you prefer injections to gel? Are you comfortable showing how/where you inject in a video? Within reason, following KZbin guidelines of course. How tall are you? (Sorry if that sounds insensitive, I'm 4'11 and I'm afraid I will never pass because of my height) These are questions for me, but also could make an interesting video :3
@wolfibird16 сағат бұрын
Hi! I’ll answer these questions here, but I might also do a video. I did not have a say when it comes to sub Q versus intramuscular. I think I started intramuscular for the first six months because it went into my upper glute, but around six months I switched to doing sub Q shots in my stomach. It’s pretty easy and can be less painful than intramuscular. I chose shots over gel because the doctors I first discussed with talked about how gel could rub off and you have to be very careful about not having anything come in contact with where you put the gel as you let it dry for a few minutes. It is also an issue with doing it every day, because I am super busy and sometimes forget to do things like that. I enjoy being able to do a shot once a week and forget about it for the rest of the days. It is still kind of painful to do the shots and create some plastic waste because every needle and syringes wrapped in plastic but I am easily able to stock pile which you can’t do with gel testosterone. I am 5’8.5” which is pretty tall for someone assigned female at birth. I reached 5 foot 7 when I was 13 before I even started testosterone and got a lot of comments on my height being the “tall girl” but it was typical for my family because my mom is 5 foot 7 1/2, my dad is a 6 foot, and my brother is also 6 foot. Height definitely can alter how others perceive you which really sucks about our society, but passing is not impossible even when you’re shorter. While the average height for a cis man is much taller, even taller than me, that doesn’t mean every man is that tall. My uncle is 5 foot, my best friend is 5 foot four, my boss at work is 5 foot, and I know so many other men around that height. Yeah, I would probably be comfortable doing a demonstration injection if KZbin guidelines allow it! It would’ve been nice for me to see when I first started. I didn’t really know what I was doing and there’s not a lot of resources out there.

@ Thanks so much. I’m going away to college soon and I’m just really scared once I start to live my life how I want, everything is going to fall apart. It’s a shame more trans people don’t talk about this part of transitioning because it’s honestly a very hard thing to go through.
@wolfibird15 күн бұрын
@Gondol09 It is a hard thing to go through. The thing to remember though is that the tough time of extreme change and adjustment is only a small fraction of your life, and eventually everything will feel settled and you get to live your true life. of course there will always be challenges, like bathrooms, dating, and living situations for me, but at least it doesn't feel like the world is crumbling anymore.
@Gondol0915 күн бұрын
@ That’s true. Everything doesn’t heal with time but it does get better. I just hate being made to feel like I owe something to my parents because they raised me. They describe it like a betrayal. I’ve struggled with living situations too but hopefully once I’m off on my own those things will change.
@wolfibird10 күн бұрын
I had the same experience. It is so much better to choose who you are surrounded with and slowly work through things with parents. You don’t owe anything but some understanding for your parents’ situation. It is hard for them to have their idea of you not be true, but they will adjust over time. You owe it to yourself to do what makes you happy. I finished filming the video, it is a bit of a ramble but I hope it helps a little, or at least makes you feel less alone it this. It will be up in a few days.
@snapdragonslair4 күн бұрын
Ok last comment I promise: why did you choose to go on hormone blockers? What are the pros and cons of being on blockers & testosterone vs just being on testosterone? Because I didn't even realize there were blockers for female hormones the same way that there are t-blockers for trans women. I've never heard of an AFAB taking blockers at all (except 11 and 12 year olds, who are taking puberty blockers before switching to hormones when they're older and have everything figured out). They don't seem to be very well known in the community.
@wolfibird16 сағат бұрын
Hormone blockers are easier to get on as a young person and are a way to quickly stop the progression of female puberty. I was 14 when I started so damage had already been dealt but I wanted to avoid any further effects of estrogen on my body. T takes awhile to get up to high enough levels in your body to stop estrogen from being produced at such high levels, so t with no blockers could mean things like having a period and more physical development (for younger people) which most trans masculine people want to avoid. And I didn’t know for sure if my family would allow me to go on t but I got blockers the day of my first appointment with doctors when we were discussing hormones and blockers. You can’t stay on blockers for that long because your body needs a certain level of all hormones in order to protect the health of your bones. While on blockers I had to supplement calcium to prevent possible bone density loss. After a year ish my endocrinologist said I won’t be getting any more blocker injections (which were every six months) because my t was enough to do it’s job. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I totally get wanting to pass as an androgynous guy. I'm nonbinary, but I'd rather just let people perceive me as male. Nonbinary and 3rd gender aren't widely known, and among those who do have some knowledge, half of them are extremely prejudice. Considering I want to go into a competitive field, it's better that I just pass as male than try to challenge people's biases. I'm already going to be somewhat looked down on for my race, I don't want another way to be different.
@wolfibirdКүн бұрын
Yeah, it really sucks knowing that unless you want life to be even harder, you have to try to be seen as someone you are not. Humans need sex hormones for all sorts of things so you can’t be hormoneless but it’s a cool thought.
