A therapist at BetterHelp told me that her intuition told her that the story that caused the trauma was unbelievable... because she listens to her intuition more than a firsthand account of the circumstances that drilled in the pain. It's triggering just writing this. There was no help for a mother and child who were suffering victims. What a shame to the therapeutic community! I'm glad this video was posted to bring some of the elements of the struggle for decent help.

I’m in London and after experiencing SA from a man from my own African country, I told the white therapist that I was conflicted about involving the police since it’s against our culture and sending him to prison would make me an outcast in my own community. I just wanted understanding and help with navigating this additional trauma, as I also knew the UK police were only interest in my case because it meant imprisoning a black man. This white woman came at me with all the judgement in the world. She told me my culture was backwards, delinquent and basically implied I was a fool for considering the cultural impact on my life. The feeling of shame she made feel was worse than the SA and it took me 15 years to recover from what she said and 15 years before I was able to find a black therapist who not only understood, but empowered me to be at peace with my decision to ultimately pursue justice even though I was disenfranchised from my community whilst dealing with racism from the very police who were prosecuting the case.

Mental health is real people, we all suffer at one time or another whether we want to admit it or not. Recognizing you need the help is the first step, and finding someone you connect with is the second and hardest part. I had a wonderful therapist after my sister passed away, who helped me to accept my own forgiveness.

Thank you Taraji for being so transparent with your struggle. Mental Health is real like Depression is real. Everyone is at a different level of Mental Health issues for lack of not knowing there is a name for their confusion and there is help out here and medication to help whoever. It's a blessing today that all the different kinds of mental illness has a name, our forefathers and mothers were told they were crazy in the head, the devil got them, locked in a room and forgot about them. There needs to be more platforms opened up for discussion, testing, facilities that won't harm their people but show more compassion, empathy and understanding. When you watch your parents, siblings and best friend, slip away from you, you look and feel a different kind of way. I pray that people will pray for our community that suffers with this disease, prayer begins the healing process, Amen 🙏🏾

@@martineterrell1798 Wrong. A higher power ov that nature gives therapists the ability to motivate you to get your own shit together. Furthermore, good therapists see therapists for check-ins to ensure that their own biases are not affecting their sessions. And let's be clear: prayer subsidizes therapy. Therapy is the work you do on yourself. Prayer without work is bullshit.

It is extremely hard to find a therapist. Besides that, it is beyond hard to find a therapist that’s passionate about what they do. That is one of the main factors of finding an effective therapist. I’ve came across some that really truly didn’t care and didn’t even have an outlet for them to decompartmentalize their problems or believe in God. If you are a believer make sure you find a therapist that believes. ❤

Therapy can be so good and relieving. You’re not crazy because you go to a therapist is crazy not to go when you need someone to help you through. It’s like you have a lot of garbage and you reach into the cabinet and you get the trash bag and you put it in the trash bag all the garbage And then you wrap it up and you take it to the garbage can and the sanitation people come and they pick it up and they take it away. Therapy is cleansing it’s like washing the dirt off and you look down at the drain and the dirt just goes down. The drain therapy can be really refreshing, it’s all about perception
