In the United States, we'd first need potential leaders to talk Turkey (i.e., basic facts), and that entails discussing not just ideology, but the rudimental of resources, money, and where we fall amazingly bereft of what we think we are. What is Dienm 25/Mera 25 policy on Russia and Putin. In the past I think Yanis Varoufakis had a more distant take on Putin in the past. For me a new European peace framework must take into account Russias new role and the energy we have received through out the last 40 years.

Sorry to hear this Prof. Finkelstein and I say this with utmost respect. Mr. Varoufakis was indeed a finance minister and campaigned for a party (SYRIZA) that brought nothing more than disaster for the Greek people, not to mention its' role in stregthening the Israel - Greece strategic relationship. Moreover, he just yesterday said on the Communist Party of Greece, a party that has long been a crucial ally of the Palestinian people, that "I don't want to live on a Gulag, where the central commitee is imposing to me what to say or not (...)". That is plain old anticommunism reminiscent of the cold war McCarthy era.

Actually Varoufakis was never a member of Syriza, and although he was a finance minister in their government, he resigned once he realised that they had been turned by the troika, and no longer had the interests of the people of Greece at heart. He has since been fiercely critical of Alexis Tsipras, Yannis Dragousakis, and the other leading members of syriza and their handling of the crisis. He was only finance minister for 5 months, and only in charge of eu negotiations for 4.

Actually Varoufakis had said at the time of the negotiations about the third memorandum signed with IMF etc that "I agree with 70% of the measures of the memorandum". He has also voted yes in the relevant parliamentary voting on the ratification of the 3rd memorandum with the so called "institutions"

He did vote in favor if this treaty that contained unbelievably hard economic measures, albeit with a letter instead of having the courage to support his "betrayal" inside the parliament. The Syriza party, imo, never actually betrayed the people as it was always against it. Even the so called referendum was a big scam against the people.
